MIASMA | Post Apocalyptic Short Film

- MIASMA is a post apocalyptic short film based around the concept of a virus causing the end of the world. During this dystopian apocalypse, a group of three survivors from the CDC (Centers of Disease Control) track down what they believe is the source of the viral outbreak. One of them is gravely wounded so it's a race against time to find the truth. But what they find isn't quite what they're expecting...
This is a Zero budget post apocalyptic short film that we made a while back but never got around to releasing. My role was Director of Photography / Cinematographer on this project. Using the Sony A7S2 mirrorless camera, I was able to produce a dystopian look with post processing and color grading. I also used Adobe After Effects to produce some of the Visual Effects seen in the film, such as Matte Painting and Rotoscoping. Optical Flares was added at a later stage and motion tracked onto real world lights.

As a student of post apocalyptic short films, I'll give this one props for being well executed, with respectable acting by the main character. The director escalated the tension skillfully, but the fight scenes tended to stretch credulity and break the immersion. Ultimately, I wish I hadn't sat through the whole thing only to discover that the writer just really needs a girlfriend.

Sorry, But I'm dumb. Can anyone tell me the story / what really happened in this short film ? I watched it twice and I only get that there's a virus and that man is somehow responsible. Plz elaborate some one. Please
Well basically the two CDC agents were trying to track down the source of the virus when their transport was attacked. They find shelter with Dr Lee and ultimately discover that Dr Lee was the one who released the virus.

Your poem/statement at the end days "the living are now dying" Reality is you are born dying, actually from the moment you are conceived/alive your dying. Dont fear death it's what makes you alive
Our writer was quite fond of these types of literature =D
Another view is that we are alive as long as we are fertile, in order to continue the species. We begin dying as soon as we can no longer produce healthy offspring. Nature then considers us useless.

This was pretty cool. Acting was wow. The use of the small space was niiice. The unexpected monologue was really well done acting, design, lighting, all of it. The sound/score were excellent. That rare almost unnoticeable enhancement. The portrayal of compartmentalization was so very very good.
The main two problems I had were the lack of motivation for Dr Lee to let them in at all, and his killing the team scientist. The latter was dependent on timing which was too inexact to be practical. Also their staying in his apt without investigating any others needed an explanation since it was so illogical. I enjoyed this kudos to your team.

Great job Rob! I started watching this when you released it and I ran out of time. Anyway I just watched it fully then from the beginning and this is awesome, characters were good for a short film, the plot was brilliant and the lead role really convinced me he was crazy IRL😂 Seriously though great work!

@@AliensStoleMyCow I don't in that I would always prefer a cleaner image for my own films I think unless I am doing something specifically period. I actually generally prefer digital to film tbh. But I totally appreciate when the aesthetic is done well and I think you have done it well .

One of the best no-budget short films i have ever seen.
Effects: 7 (Shadows and lights aren't the best tbh)
Recitation: 8.5
Storyline: 6.5 (There isn't actually a big story, good stuff tho)

Outstanding for its class, but I feel like it would be better if there was more explanation of what happened.
Thank you. It wasn't planned out that well. We were mostly just trying to get it finished. It was supposed to be a 1 day shoot and a very small project but we just ended up making it bigger and bigger
My two cents on indie shorts: the most common shortcomings are: too dark, mumbling or quiet dialog and the story moves too slowly.
This one had some mumbling but was otherwise fine.

It's set in London, which is the most multi-cultural part of the UK. But we should have included a few white people at least. We couldn't find any who would act for free.

Sorry, the way he jumped on his partner w/o question destroyed the whole thing. Too bad - it was looking half decent. Now it's just 23 minutes I'll never get back. That was soooo ridiculously unbelievable! Wish I could give it a million thumbs down. Edited to add: Mr Psycho has a very poor grasp of nature, evolution and biological systems to co be able to come to the conclusion he did. EVERY life form is potentially a natural disaster if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. A NATURAL disaster. So crazy and ignorant.
