Doctor Who?
Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, many actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
A series of special episodes will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.
The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete
David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.
The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.
Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.
Im so glad its back i was so sad that i couldnt get this thank you for showing me this
Hey there! I'm thrilled to hear that you found it back in stock and that my video was helpful for you! Thanks for watching. Enjoy your Sonic Screwdriver! 😎
Ah perfect, finally a comparison between these three sonics. Thank you very much and kisses from France 😉
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you found the comparison helpful. Sending kisses back to France! 😊😉🇫🇷
you are the new votesaxon07 for me
Thanks aha. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not 😅😂😉
He who should not be named
@@SameSonicDifferentCasewell, you do what he did, but your (hopefully) not an evil person
Minus the murdering.
Noooo don’t say his name….
so good to finally see a comparison between these versions of the 12th doctor sonic because for the longest time if i tried to search for anything, it was always 10th or 13th doctor seven20 sonics. also I believe the version of the sonic screwdriver that was shown in hell bent went slower and rotated counter-clockwise, which the surreal/seven20 version seems to be based on, however it had 3 chasing lights which is accurate to the character options one, which also matches later depictions of the chase mode such as the scene in Thin Ice where sutcliffe opens the tent and sees the sonic
I love this sonic screwdriver so much!
Glad you came to the same conclusion as me that it’s a pretty decent release for anyone looking - I’ve reviewed the surreal 11th and 10th screwdrivers and they drop in quality unfortunately! Interesting to see this vs the seven20, I didn’t have that available so interesting to see how identical the surreal and seven20 are!
That’s great to hear that we share the same conclusion aha! Thank you for sharing your insights on the Surreal screwdrivers. It's indeed fascinating to compare different releases. The similarities between Surreal and Seven20 are intriguing. Makes me wonder why Surreal haven’t released a Thirteenth Doctors version yet.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts man! 👍😎
@@SameSonicDifferentCase I wondered that about a possible 13 release - if they are seven20 / they are using seven20 designs that would be a great one to get with the functioning spinning crystal emitter!
Love your stuff - pinged you a message on instagram. I don’t use it much but useful to chat 👍
Great comparison, really detailed.
Loved it, thanks for the video, fantastic as always👏👍🙂
James
Thanks, James! I'm glad you enjoyed the comparison. Your support means a lot! 😎
Can't wait for genisis of the daleks ❤
Possibly be next month 😉
@@SameSonicDifferentCase just wondering what are you going to do when you get to resurrection because they never got a history set
@@the_golden_gecko I'm hopeful that Character Options will consider a History of the Daleks Ressurection Set in the near future. If not I'll have to get creative or try and get some more original releases off of eBay 🤷🏻♂
I hope surreal do a re-release of seven20s 13th sonic, sad i missed it since I loved how that one had the spining top
That would be great. The spinning emitter feature on Seven20's Thirteenth was a unique touch. Hopefully, Surreal Entertainment considers a re-release, so fans like you who missed it the first time can get their hands on one. Fingers crossed for a reissue! 🤞😎
It’s good to know this one is pretty good. I had the CO version but it gave out, one of the wires somehow got exposed and and it never quite worked after that and just stopped working all together.
Any updates on the Grey Aztecs? I'm so happy to have been able to order one recently for the Autumn run so I can't wait to see a proper overview of the first batch!
I should be receiving mine from the original run next month. I can't wait to dive in and have a proper look. The Grey Aztecs look amazing, and it's awesome that you snagged one from the autumn run, we're both be in for a treat! 🙌
Ridiculous Prices, but the fact this licensor clearly sees the market for rereleases when the Character doesn't is nothing short of embarrassing (for the Character).
Yeah, prices are a bit high. It's interesting to see Surreal Entertainment making moves with re-releases, pointing out a market gap Character Options hasn't explored. Seems like a missed opportunity for Character, especially considering the quick sell-out of the Limited Edition 14th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver on their website. They must see, there's demand for more Sonic Screwdrivers! 👍
@@SameSonicDifferentCase not to mention how the general release disappeared in a couple hours as well. The days of being a kid and all of your friends having a tenth or eleventh sonic is gone, us man-children buy them up before the target audience can get their hands on them.
Looks like your gonna have to get that new Chrome one now 😂 ive ordered mine today and i gotta say from what ive seen its beautiful hopefully you'll read this at some point
I’m literally editing the video for it right now 😂😎
@@SameSonicDifferentCase lol 😆 Good luck with it
Just bought this today and the video shows up in my recommended. Lovely to see a proper comparison, good side by sides and definitely validated my feelings on buying it 😂 I've wanted one since the initial release but I never really had my own money, and by my birthday they were basically unobtainable, but the fact I can finally get one of my favourite sonics for a decent-ish price is kinda insane to me. It arrives tomorrow thanks to amazons shipping, so excited.
Also the surreal entertainment 10th and 11th sonics are just far inferior versions compared to their initial CO releases, especially 10's, the crackle is so faintly molded and the sounds are still the war doctor chip. And 11's is a weird mix of the red button version and the touch activated one, except the red button is cosmetic only (even though the instructions say it works) AND has a far flimsier hinge. I mean if people want the comparison go for it, but I'll say it how it is, from what I've seen they're pretty knaff in comparison to how well done this 12th one is
Are you planning on getting the Little Shop Props Tri Slider or the Rubbertoe Replicas series 4 crackle?? Would love to see a review! Great video🎉
Absolutely! I appreciate your enthusiasm for the Tri-Slider and the Cream Series 4. I'm thrilled to let you know that I'll be doing reviews for both of them. Stay tuned for the upcoming videos, and thank you for your support! 🤘
Can you do a petition to bring back the wand company sonic screwdriver universal remote. I think we all want that and you are the only one with any possibility of doing that
In 2020 a guy messaged me to say he had started a petition for more Sonic Screwdrivers from The Wand Company and asked me to share it around.
www.change.org/p/the-wand-company-the-wand-company-make-new-sonic-screwdrivers.
A few years ago, I actually reached out to The Wand Company to see about any future Sonic Screwdriver releases. Unfortunately, they no longer hold the Doctor Who license and would need to renew it for any new products. But they said that is not something they've ruled out completely for the future.
So you never know…
I've signed it. Are you able to re advertise it possibly?. Although I bey they would instantly sell out
I got a seven20 version at a comicon a few years ago without realizing it was seven20 ( i didnt know the different brands back then) first i was a little bummed it wasnt the CO one but then i went amd watched the season where 12 had this screwdriver and i think the blue on the prop is darker than the CO one so i think the seven20/ SE ones look a bit more screen accurate in terms of the coloration which i really like so i think id choose a seven20 over CO but thats just me
Can someone explain to me why exactly three different companies were selling what is essentially the same sonic? They also sell stuff like the 11th Doctor's that is basically just the Character Options toy too, what's going on with that?
Absolutely, it can be confusing with multiple companies selling similar Doctor Who merchandise.
Originally, Character Options, a UK-based toy manufacturer, created these toys, which were then distributed in the USA through Underground Toys.
However, in 2017, Underground Toys' U.S. division rebranded as Seven20 and became independent from its UK parent company.
Initially, product development and design were coordinated from the UK, leading to some Seven20 Sonic Screwdriver releases mirroring the Character Options designs.
Yet, post the establishment of Seven20 as an independent entity, they formed their own development and design team. This explains why the Thirteenth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver from Seven20 differs from Character Options' releases, as Seven20 started creating their own designs.
As of 2022, Surreal Entertainment also obtained a US license similar to Seven20, allowing them to release Doctor Who merchandise in the US. Interestingly, it seems they are using the Seven20 designs, so whether they are officially affiliated with Seven20 I'm not certain.
So, the variations in the same Sonic Screwdriver from these different companies are due to the evolution of licensing and the separation of the U.S. division. It sounds a bit complex, but essentially, it boils down to the changing of licensing and the separation of the companies. 🤘
How does it compare to the rubber toe prop?
Well, to be honest, the Rubbertoe version is on another level. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and overall quality of the Rubbertoe replica far surpasses this toy version. However, considering the price point of £45, this toy replica offers good value for money. If you're on a budget, it's a decent option, but if you're aiming for top-notch quality, the Rubbertoe version is worth the investment. 😎
We have had a glimps of the character options sonic sky remote. When they realise it do you think you will review one?
Oh yes definitely 😉
@@SameSonicDifferentCase although I'm not a big fan of it I am still going to buy one. I have a request. That you refer to it as the sonic sky remote in the video.
The blue whirrling is reversed on the surreal entertainment, and does it have a red setting?
Sadly, there is no red setting on the Surreal Entertainment version (nor on the CO or Seven20 versions of the toy)!
Update: Apologies, my original comment made it sound like no versions of the Sonic Screwdriver from Character Options had no red settings/lights, whereas it was meant to refer to how no version of The Twelfth Doctor’s V2 Sonic Screwdriver had no red setting.
As far as I know, the only toys to have a red setting are River's and the limited edition Fourteenth Doctor's
War doctor
@@dylanrinker6831 That's just permanently red
Why the he- why is the spin setting so weird on the new guys? Why couldn’t they just copy what CO did and make it screen accurate?! Oh well,
£50 on Amazon 😂
Amazon prices can be a rollercoaster, it's currently showing £43.99 for me 😉
I wonder why so many recent sonics have piss-poor sound quality.
The switch on the inside is completely different now. Inside the CO was a spring-loaded slider switch, but on the Surreal, it's more like a lever.
Sliding the switch on the Surreal moves a small arm inside, which moves two silicone pads onto circuit board's touch sensors.
Thank you for pointing out the differences! I haven’t opened one up yet to have a look myself but it sounds like the switch mechanism has undergone quite a transformation from the CO to the Surreal. Appreciate the insight into how the Surreal switch operates! 😎
