Shirley Muldowney earned her 18th Top Fuel victory, six years from her 1983 time. She was a Top Fuel legend. She won three World Champions and now she wins the Fall Nationals in the end.
A few teams thought white wheels would help the timing beams be more " kind" to them (not sure it did anything, but a trend was soon set for a little while)

Probably nozzles for the wheel hose that was visible on the white rim.

On some vids the silver wheels are painted with shoe polish. I thought it was to reduce glare in the timing lights esp staging.
