  • Yugashima in Izu-shi (Shizuoka) is located in Japan about 71 mi (or 114 km) south-west of Tokyo, the country's capital.
Yugashima town is near by Mount Amagi, a group of some volcanoes.
Amagi Pass is on the dividing ridge at the southeast part of Mount Amagi.
It is located nearly at the center of Izu Peninsula, and the altitude is 830 meters.
Kawabata Yasunari (1899-1972, a Nobel Prize-winning author) wrote a famous novel Izu no Odoriko (The Dancing Girl of Izu) set in this pass.
And, an Enka (Japanese popular song) "Amagi-goe" is a big hit song in 1986, and it is one of the most favorite songs which Japanese people sing in karaoke.
("Amagi-goe" means "Passing Amagi Pass", but the song sings of the passionate emotion of woman!)

Thank you for sharing your Yugashima trip. I have been to Shizuoka several times but have yet to explore Izu peninsula area. I read literature books written by Japanese writers like Basho, Soseki Natsumi, Yukio Mishima, and of course Yasunari Kawabata, the Noble Laureate. I love the Izu Dancer by Kawabata. On my future trip to my Oto-san house at Shizuoka- I will rent a car and explore this area. Domo arigatou gozaimas 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 for all the info.

I wish I found your videos sooner, they are great. I also wish I could chat with locals in Japan like you do, but my Japanese is extremely rudimental. Sad. I agree the tunnel has a very spooky atmosphere! But beautiful nevertheless.
