In 2006, at the height of dubstep's creativity, one-man production powerhouse Skream visited Melbourne to kick back on the Red Bull Music Academy couch. While there, he revealed the roots of his skanking riddims, and how this fascinating, raw and visceral sound came from a close-knit family of DJs and producers in South London, then took over the world.

Never underestimate a bedroom dj.
I know exactly what skeamz saying i was there through these times & even before that......Garage was jeans & shirts sophisticated music for the ladies & gents.....then fwd came with the sub bass music head banging dark vibe..... grime was hats & hoods.. at those times before dubstep was around they were callin it sublo music.... when producers were about like oris J zinc hype.... when skream was in dubstep it wad good condition as soon as he left.... the music wasnt consistent... i loved dubstep coz for me it was like an updated style of drum & bass but slowed down with a component of reggae sub bass.../patterns...then they watered it down & gave it an electronic sound for the commercial listeners & radio....just like what they did to grime......
old skream was so good.
53:33 Ohhh man love this track so much :)
Thank you so much for this. Carry on this legacy of dubstep, garage, 2step.
iam so glad that the listening part is not cut out!
This is gold this needs to be cherished
Its cringe but funny and also mega cute watching him be so awkward with his mannerisms and answers, I think that's most people at like 20 anyway right. Its so fun to watch her find the right questions to ask him so that he slowly unravels more hah... awesome insight though
I listen to the music throughout Skreams music during this interview...
And i was engaging..
The rest was gucked up.
The interviewer was as thick as that interviwer that time with AFX.
Insensitive and lacking any passion for the music. ..
0 out of 10 for the interviwer.
But
Skream points are the cosmos ❤
Excellent interview.
its like watching one of those kitten rescue videos. he needs a cuddle!
Nice
Weird how around 38 min when they're talking about his popularity in grime, he didn't mention his productions under Mr Keas, some of those riddims were loved by MC's got bare wheels back in the day
RESPECT
"and you got this one person that just keeps doing it and keeps doing it and its like..... go away."
pretty trippy indeed
He loves a bit of gabba OR industrial techno❤
30:20 cry everytime :[
37:58 'no' haha did i miss something here ? XD
Nina kravitz in at the start having trouble with her laptop charger
33:35 😂😂😂😂
@58:32 😛
mi papa skream
anyone know the tune at 46:00
Richie Spice - Burning (Dean "Coki" Harris Remix)
is there anyway of getting that track at 31:05 mins today hahaha
Zain Ahmed yeah google it, the 320 will be on the net
Interesting how an 11 year old could have such focus on one thing and maintain it for years.
well, i discovered electronic music around the age of 8 or 9... i'm 38 now and i've kinda managed to make a living in, of and around that scene ever since i graduated from school back in 1997.
Dem speakers couldt hang
How do you listen to that track and not at least bob your head...zombies!
oliver is a fuckin mastaaar!
Does anyone know the name of the interviewer?
Emma Warren
Anyone know the song at 46 min??
Coki Burnin’ proper classic
That first track is sick ! Does anyone know the ID ?
+saxobuyck El B - Buck and Bury
The crowd are boring af lol They're way to comfy in those comfy chairs!
interesting that he kind of bad mouths house but now he's right in the house bandwagon claiming he's loved it for years.
people change lol
That's true but House and Techno have really evolved since 2006 when he gave this interview.
he doesnt bad mouth house he says the people doing it at the time are shit and he had some good ideas for the house/tech movement and look what happened... lol
evolved? you dont know shit about house and techno. but i saw you like deadmau5...
Gabriel whats wrong w/ deadmau5? first off joels neither house nor would i consider him techno, id call him an electronic music producer before anything else. the house & techno scenes in europe & even in the states are at some very important places within the culture these days, im glad skreams a part of that.
What track is @ 17:30 ?
+Ryan Christensen Skream - Dub Period (from the Skreamizm Vol 2 album)
+TheCroustiBapt blipstream!!
+Ryan Christensen Oh yeah sorry, my bad
+TheCroustiBapt no problemo! So glad I found it... Thanks for the reply!
why does she remind me of mark from peep show
when she says that a tune nearly blew her head off on friday night i nearly choked lol
how old is skream here?
Quentin McBullwinkle like 20ish probably
19 I think. I know on the Dubstep Warz show Mary Ann Hobbs said he was 19.
Never wanted to punch a woman so much in my life
