this song actually makes me tear up a little sometimes. its quite sad that unfortunately squidward IS alone. however, this song is so beautiful its hard not to listen to over and over again!

I think most of us or at least some of you learned about this musical when it was too late because I did and I’ll never be able to see it now 😔
I think there's a touring version, albeit with a different cast, going on. I've heard good things about it.
@@PhirePhlame Can confirm. I saw the touring production over the Super Bowl weekend, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. The cast is spectacular, the leads in particular. Also, if you go, get an aisle seat if you can, particularly on the left side of the theater.

Unfortunately, the tour is also now cancelled due to coronavirus - REEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAALLY hoping it goes back on tour someday, even if it's with a different cast!

I just noticed while watching the recording on Amazon, as they are leaving the chorus sings "you are not, not, not, not, not, not alone." They use a sextuple negative... which means that he's alone :(.
There’s only three at the end which means he isn’t alone, as well as the eleven before which adds up to not alone as well
@@TimidMinds Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant in the full version. I was watching the video on Amazon. Where this specific recording ends the chorus is around him for applause. After this they dance off stage while singing a brief reprise and have an even number of "nots". It's actually six, making it a sextuple negative. And he delivers the last "alone" himself.

i auditioned for this musical at my local community theatre and i got a callback for squidward... i'm genuinely so excited i didn't expect to even be considered 😭 i don't wanna jinx it but...AUUFHHGHG

Squidward is the pure embodiment of oppression under capitalism. We suffer and suffer and suffer, we suppress our dreams for dead end jobs and the best we get to do is fantasize about our true potential. It really moved me when Squidward got his own big musical number. I hope I can get mine too some day.

Why are the tracks on Spotify so horrible compared to the TV special??
Rose they’re very dated compared to the broadway/tv version. the recent versions have gone through plenty of revisions before their new performances. it’s a big thing that happens in musical theatre! looking at some popular shows like be more chill and beetlejuice, they’ve gone through tons of song revisions from their original debuts in comparison to their broadway releases.
Also, the cast album was released while the show was in Chicago, which naturally meant a different cast, on top of the performers being nowhere near as experienced with their characters back then.

Concord Theatrics have the rights to the show now but hopefully soon the rights will be released soon.
@@jay-lanhalliburton3593 Hopefully they'll reopen the show. I was greatly disappointed when they shut it down instead of just postponing, though at this point that was probably the right move. I was lucky enough to see it 3 weeks before it all shut down. The touring cast did an amazing job, and the guy playing Squidward, while young, was so spot on.
@@Rhewin And the unfortunate part is both the Broadway and National Tour productions were cut short. So this show deserves an immediate revival.
