  • This is a singles set between me and Govind Nanda and Govind's second time on the channel! Govind played at UCLA and now on the ATP tour and has reached a high of 339 in the world. He's been injured recently but feeling better now. Today we played an 8-game pro set with me having a 30-Love lead each game. Watch to see if it was enough of a handicap lol. Leave some nice comments below for Govind for playing this match on his road to recovery!
Also guys, I'm building a community called The Challenge Court. It sounds just like what it is, different challenges and matchups. Not just me playing all the time.
I've been feeling like my content lacks a bigger purpose. That I'm not maximizing the channel I've built for a bigger cause. So with the Challenge Court I'll be more intentional in trying to grow the sport through creating modern tennis content that people can consume, in addition to pro tennis. And trying to benefit everyone that's a part of it. Don't worry, my content will be pretty similar moving forward!
If this sounds cool to you follow @thechallengecourt on IG where I've explained more of the details!

So true. Winston is probably better than 95% of the people watching and gets completely demolished by Govind. But he would most likely lose emphatically to a top 100 player, who would consistently lose to a top 10 player, who would lose against a top 3 player...and then there's the Djokovoc-Nadal-Federer-level...that's how far they are from normal people.

Another great vid. S/O to govinder, love the fact pros are willing to come play with you. We love to see it. One crazy difference I noticed in this video, Winston, you're clearly more fit than like 75% of the population, and you're very quick and fast around the court. But govinder barely looks like he's trying to chase the ball, I dunno how to explain it, it's like the pros predict based on what the likely shot is but also wait until the contact to move. Idk, I still suck at tennis and have always struggled reading the ball, the pros you play, just seems different the way they move. Keep up the great work!!

    • @lukeoldfield7940
      @lukeoldfield7940 Před rokem +3

Better players track the ball better, so make decisions quicker and react faster. Winston is pretty quick, but doesn't read the flight of the ball as well, so hesitates more before moving. Also better players have better footwork, so more efficient and precise movement, better balance and are much less flat footed, so weight transference into movement happens faster. All these little things add up to a big difference in 'speed' on court.

Govind a ridiculously excellent player. Remember I got out of juniors and raised my own level, then played a co-worker of a family member, who was top six hundred. Killed me. Same as another player, son of a teacher that got to top 450, who killed me with minimal effort. I was serving big too and it was easy for them! I remember at my best coming up against a top 20 in nation and he also killed me. They just play at a much higher level: their strategy is superior, their consistency is really high and their match toughness is really high.
You have to be able to hang with them. I'd have lost 6-0 6-0 even being spotted 40 per game and a point, or two! If I were spotted 30 per game Govind would have, possibly, played either a perfect set or two and beaten me. Again: my game is good and it would have broken down against, and picked apart by, someone of this caliber. Even if I went for broke on first and second serves Govind would have figured me out quick. He's just at a whole other level.

I am not sure if this idea will be something useful, only you can decide, but maybe ask your opponent at the end for some tips on how you can improve your strokes, game, strategy etc. You do not necessarily have to include that in your video but I think since you are playing so many high level players, use their knowledge to advance your own tennis journey.

Bro you've improved a lot but Govind's a beast! I think he'd give Karue a tough time. Well done for trying but so tough if the serves rain down like cannons.

I’ve been watching ur progress and at this point no way ur still a 4.5 playing the way you did against him. Like yeah ur not not beating him but ur competing and he is a pro. Your shot placement has gotten way better. Well done.

    As usual, great content.
Winston, you may not feel like it, but to me, at least, you’re playing quite well. Your backhand seems to have more drive to it, and consistency. And your forehand, likewise, with a bit more penetration.
Your net game is still a bit suspect, but that’s understandable considering that your style of play is to win from the backcourt.
All of us amateurs, playing against each other, get away with too many non penetrating shots. Pros make us pay dearly every time we don’t do something meaningful.
But, I would guess that right now, against players at your level, you are doing better than you did, say, 6 months ago?

you're really good. I think you need to realize that getting the ball back isn't enough when playing better players. Even if you hit a ball slowly and it is DEEP --> very good. I think if you float a few balls deep off serve you can at least be in the point. Great video!

Out of curiosity, how tall are you and Govind?
Winston, when you play a guy as good as Govind, you have to go for winners on every single shot. You can't just try to get the ball back to the center of the court, especially with your backhand. Again, this only applies when you're playing somebody as good as Govind. Fun watching.
