    Used my 40d for years as my backup camera for my pro photo studio and was very happy with its quality for portraits, weddings, and commercial images. Gave it to my grandaughter for college and I upgraded to EOS 5d MK II and used that until I retired. The 40d still is a very nice and easy to use DSLR with very good image quality and I highly recommend it.

    Use mine when I don't feel comfortable taking my more expensive gear to the event. As you say, perfect for protests. Anyone have a problem, swing the 40d and knock them out, then use it to take a photo of them laying on the ground.

    Got mine today for 70 euros, coupled with a vintage Helios 58mm. 11k shots taken. Great snappy AF at least on my Canon 18-55 STM / 50mm 1.8 STM / or Sigma 50-200 HSM. Ah, and the colours are something else, really, especially when using the Autumn Haze custom picture style.

    I'm purely a hobbyist stills photographer shooting landscape, street life and wildlife. Got a brand new Canon 40D from B&H used department three months ago with a shutter count of 1874. Couldn't be happier. I love the bigger pixels of this camera that produce cleaner images and nice colors. I use it for all my purposes and love the outputs. Gem of a camera. My wait and patience of three years to grab a good copy finally paid off.
    I don't find any weaknesses with this camera. When I shoot in low light; I use my other Canon bodies that are meant for it. Therefore, this camera is poor low-light performer and lacks video option are not logical arguments against this wonderful DSLR. It should be evaluated for what it is. And for a stills shooter like me; there's no better APS-C camera than this one.
    Thank you for the video.

    I have this camera, this is my first camera that i bought for learning about photography. Low light is a problem, but daylight, that one is awesome. • @lensvana
      @lensvana  Před 2 lety

  • @quazisanjeed6395
    @quazisanjeed6395 Před 3 lety +5

    I tried one last week. I knew it's one of the best mainly due to its bigger pixels that capture more light and produce cleaner images. I own 7D and 70D also. If I don't need to crop the images; the 40D images look better on my 55 inch LED TV compared to the other two. I've also tried 7DII and it also doesn't match with 40D.
    High ISO is no longer an issue due to emergence of AI Denoise applications. I've already tried it at ISO 1600 and images are useable. Would soon do it at 3200.
    Low light capability is not required as I would like to shoot wildlife during the day if I can purchase this DSLR.

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  Před 3 lety

      That high pixel pitch on the 10.1 megapixel sensor is very forgiving indeed! You're completely right - the new AI algos are a game changer and they're getting better and better every year. I've only heard good things about the 7D and how it's the ultimate budget wildlife camera (haven't had a chance to test one myself).

      @@lensvana, u know one interesting thing! The mirrorless craze has created a golden opportunity for real photography lovers. Many mirrorless fans are ditching DSLRs for MILCs. So, old market is flooded with DSLRs. Now is the time for photographers to buy quality cameras.
      I've already bought two 7Ds with acceptable low shutter counts. Trying one 40D now and might buy if terms match. The other one I'm frantically searching is 5D Classic. Already own a 5DII. Nothing wrong with owning multiple bodies as I bought them all used and cheap.😁
      Did I mention I'm a Canon user?🤔 Tried Nikon also after borrowing one from friend for few days. That's a good brand too. However, to me Canon is easier and images look nicer.

      @lensvana  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Just looked into this, apparently it's a slightly improved sensor. From the 40D white paper:
      ""Although the EOS 40D’s single-piece CMOS sensor is based on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi’s sensor design and manufacturing technology, new processes were incorporated in the CMOS semiconductor fabrication and microlens-forming process. By improving light-collecting efficiency, the same ISO range and low noise (S/N ratio) as that of the EOS 30D were attained even though the pixels on the 30D are larger."
      In practical terms, that sounds like a lot of marketing-speak and it should be almost identical if you don't need the 40D's rugged build and faster continuous fps
