this performance turned me into a Phish/Trey fanatic. For years, I'd dismissed Trey as a "bad singer" and I couldn't get with Phish's "goofy lyrics". But for these shows, I laid my past thoughts behind and watched with open eyes, mind, and heart. Early on in the performance, Trey was obviously as enamored with the Dead's music as I had been, and approached this song with such joy, such love, and he flashed this incredible blissful smile. That smile and the joy from which it came, melted my cold stone heart and changed my attitude about him one and for all. And his stellar playing throughout the shows proved to me that he deserved his role in that band on that tour. So I surrendered to the flow..... and have a wonderful new world to explore.... after all these years.

I am a big Deadhead and I don't have the slightest difficulty imagining Jerry playing what Trey did. 12:03 way too rush the song Bruce. Those guitar notes are iconic on the fire melody. A great dead song should always have room to breathe and time to develop. One of my favorite parts of Fire is that iconic melody and Trey was prepared to let it flow only to get cut off. Wow!!!!!

Huge Dead fan here. Also love Phish and Trey. Nonetheless, was a bit skeptical. Boy was I wrong. The man has certainly done his homework, especially on Jerry's guitar style. Not that I'm saying he needs to imitate, but I thought he would sound too much like himself. Anyway, dude nails it. Wish I'd been there!
Yeah it's pretty safe to say Trey is having just about the best month of his life. Went from being the bane of the average deadhead's existence when he was picked to no one (even on the Internet!) can say a bad thing about him The Phish tour that starts in two days should be one hell of a good time. I honestly won't be surprised if they actually play a few Dead songs (haven't since Terrapin Station as an encore in 98 on the 3rd anniversary of Jerry's death, and maybe 10 years before that)
I was to lucky to see them in Santa Clara, but this was the one combo I wanted to see more than any. #FirstWorldProblems Trey looks like he is really enjoying himself. I was enjoying myself watching this, so thank you for the video
It took me a minute to realize this was from the Fare Thee Well session, but then I recognized those wonderful double drums and Phil. Loved the Santa Clara shows. What a combo of the two the two greatest "jam band" sounds, magic. And you can tell Trey is so thrilled to be there. Such a joy to see, as the official video just wouldn't cut to him during solos, I had to laugh. Some of that missing footage I wanted to see, showing Trey playing in the band, amazingly! It's giving me goosebumps. I'm playing it for a third time. That they all clicked so quickly, not everyone could just jump in there. Thank you for keeping the flame alive!!
LOVE THIS.! I wouldnt doubt Trey broke his face from smiling so hard for hours, having soo much fun.! Jimmy Herring was awesome taking over for Jerry, Trey was GREAT, John, I'll be kind and say, not so much.
I love seeing Trey's smile, it's like he himself can't believe he's there in that moment playing a Scarlet Fire!! Watching this video you can feel his vibe and just get that positive energy. Great footage, thanks for sharing.
I caught the 7/5 and saw videos of the 3rd and 4th. I thought Trey did a good job and no matter who filled that spot they couldn't compare to Jerry who unfortunately couldn't be there.Understanding that Trey wasn't there to replace Jerry but to honor him. All in all I enjoyed the shows and was by no means disappointed.
Definitely. Only Jerry could play like Jerry. Trey just plays a different kind of guitar. Not that he's worse, I'm sure Jerry couldn't fill trey's shoes had the roles been reversed. Goes to show how unique and irreplaceable each individual truly is. So blessed to listen to both of their works.
benharperfan2 you're right trays on another level a little hello John Mayer. No way his guitar playing comes close to Mayers. I will admit I like Treys vocals on Jerrys tunes, saw tray some years back with Phil and friends and he did a really good job. Not that I'm saying he needs to imitate, but I thought he would sound too much like himself. Anyway, dude nails it. Wish I'd been there!
Joe Russell He did beautifully! He was humble but also added his own touches and, most of all, he was so happy and *part* of it all.
I'm sure he was so honored. He clearly had a great time.
Yeah it's pretty safe to say Trey is having just about the best month of his life. Went from being the bane of the average deadhead's existence when he was picked to no one (even on the Internet!) can say a bad thing about him
The Phish tour that starts in two days should be one hell of a good time.
#FirstWorldProblems
Trey looks like he is really enjoying himself. I was enjoying myself watching this, so thank you for the video
+Alan Daniel you are some kind of prophet...this tour was freakin' fantastic
Trey looks so happy playing this music. They are the mothership of all jam bands for sure.
LOVE THIS.! I wouldnt doubt Trey broke his face from smiling so hard for hours, having soo much fun.! Jimmy Herring was awesome taking over for Jerry, Trey was GREAT, John, I'll be kind and say, not so much.
I was there, second row, and I swear to god Trey looked right at me!
Trey's smile just makes this video 1000x better... priceless moment for him .. the one smile says it all..
Awesome. Thank you. Peace and Light to you all ☮️💗🙏
I've been looking forward to this one all year.
9:25 when Trey hits the Dave's Energy Guide lick briefly and smiles... too good
I love seeing Trey's smile, it's like he himself can't believe he's there in that moment playing a Scarlet Fire!! Watching this video you can feel his vibe and just get that positive energy. Great footage, thanks for sharing.
Has definitely caught the essence of the Grate one very nice to see someone carrying the torch Go Trey enjoy .....
still listening after 2 years, still my favorite
Still loving it saw this live. Its 2022 now.
Still listening after 7 and going
Hey, let's not forget Mickey and Bill. Wonderful, too. Totally in synch. Like one guy with four arms.
Allan Ostermann yes!!!
the amount of joy on trey's face is awesome to see.... and the crowd showed him a ton of love back
Lost my marbles during this in Chicago. I love Trey. I love the dead. I love you all!
Awesome video, thanks for posting. Trey did a great job fitting in with the band. And he played his ass off!
Classic Trey. Smiling when the song starts, was late to start singing the first verse, and then shreds it. Great video!
I could watch this all day.
Trey's tone and playing are one of a kind
Thank you!!! One of the best Scarlet-Fire's ever!
I was there and smiling back, Bravo!
Jerry looks pretty young here
Been thinking Meyer blows away Trey, then I found this exceptional performance.
There's no comparison with the vocals though. Most guitar players sound the same
Tony Danis how could have you thought that?
benharperfan2 you're right trays on another level a little hello John Mayer. No way his guitar playing comes close to Mayers. I will admit I like Treys vocals on Jerrys tunes, saw tray some years back with Phil and friends and he did a really good job. But no possible way Is he superior to Mayer playing lead guitar for the dead. I know all the Phish heads think so, that's because your Phish heads
