There's no way that he's a 6. His 4 rating was appropriate. He seemed to have poor positional play with the cue ball and his defensive play was 3-4 level at best. Not just in execution, but what he was attempting. So, whoever warned you that he was UNDERRATED had no clue.
I agree. His shot routine, stroke, patterns, decision making, safeties, break All say 4, at best. He can make easy shots with no shape. It's very possible to play a higher level and destroy him just by getting rolls and easy table layouts Can't read into results without seeing the process.
Here's a test for you . Place an object ball on the head string about a ball from the long rail. Place the cue ball roughly 1 diamond behind it , set up for a straight - in shot to the corner pocket 6 diamonds away along the same side rail . If you strike the cue ball with follow and hit it JUST hard enough to reach the pocket ... how far will the cue ball roll ? The answer is ONE diamond. If it rolls farther than that , it will be because of excess speed over and above POCKET speed . It travels one sixth as far as the object ball . ALWAYS . 6 to 1 ratio . Constant . Table speed doesn't matter , because it affects both balls equally. Would have been useful on that final 4 ball you shot. Pocket speed , and the cue ball would have rolled 2 to 4 INCHES . Even slightly harder and it would not have scratched . Try it yourself & you'll never forget it when it matters. I LOVE your channel , Todd ! Seriously , make that tool a part of your arsenal .
As a 7 this was fun to watch, I'm more an 8 but my suggestion to you about the nerves. Learn to box breath between shots, will lower anxiety and nerves
I'm a SL5 I beat a 9 with a fargo of 705. Beat him with 1 rack of 8 ball then 1 rack in 9 ball. SO it does happen. With that win we are headed to Vegas for the Captains tourney.
Good video. Better video: always add CB striking position (you usually do this). Best video: show CB image with red strike position. Thanks for excellent content.
Thanks! I’m still looking for a way to add an overlay option to draw what I’m talking about. My software has the option… only for Windows and I have a Mac. Still hunting for work around (when I have time and not recording or video editing) haha
As a new 9 ball player was rated 6 due to my 8 ball rating. Am proud of beating the two 7's I played. Kept it very simple. Minimized my ball in hands and snookered when appropriate. Quick learner. I did lose to a 3 due to tactical error. Very annoying.
I’m just amazed that even playing in the cups or even regular league night that people have too pay too play the table. Where I’m at for league the tables get opened two hours before league starts and you only pay if you play.
All depends on the pool hall and their agreement with the league operator. I have one BCA league night that we pay a small green fee and they open the tables all night until we leave. Most others are all about raking in quarters.
30 innings without hardly any containing or developing defense when the table is clearly not in your favor is not tactically a sound plan against a supposedly underrated lower skill level, or even a properly rated player. I've been there done that before, been in your shoes to a T including all the captain excuses at the end. My game only got better when I started trusting all aspects of the game. Hope you work it out and remember to play the shot the table demands, and if that not one that your comfortable with, that's the one to drill.
If you want to get better at breaking and running, break from the side rail and hold your cue ball in the center of the table. The break you are using has way too high of a scratch rate and a higher chance of a bad set up. Side rail break is king in 9 ball unless you are playing 9 on spot and break box
I actually don't scratch often (way under 10% I bet) with my 9b break. I put the cue at the head string, one diamond away. I aim at the heart of the 9 with low and a half tip of outside. If anything, I need to use less low to control it and stay more center table. I'm constantly working on my breaks. My 8b break has changed since getting a new break shaft so now I need to reconfigure my rotation break too.
@@Poolside_Chatmaybe not for you but in general that break has a higher scratch rate, and again it has pretty bad lay outs compared to the side rail. If you can make the one in the side and the wing ball, or even just the wing ball the one is almost always around the bottom left hand pocket for a easy shot. Try breaking from the side rail while shooting the 1 at the 1st diamond from the right. Hit with 1/3rd a tip below center and i promise your layout will be better if hit well. There isnt a lot lacking in your game, but from the videos ive seen it seems that your break is holding you back from more break and runs
Your safe at 34:30, I was able to get a hit by aiming as close to the nipple as possible and applying a ton of right spin, two railer. Old fat man had use an extension to reach it. Took several attempts.
It’s not so much a finger measurement as just a visual for me. Usually I can just look but that time, I put my finger down about the contact point to see, do I need to stun to the side or draw behind the side pocket. I looked because a stun would’ve dead scratched. So I pulled it back.
Depends on the bar. My “home course” has 4 diamonds and 13 Dynamo’s. I do have 2 other bars in town that have about 25 bar box diamonds. A couple near by towns have all diamond bars… Just depends where you go.

I’ve played with Revo since it was released. Got a “used” one a month after it was debuted and used it for 5 years. I was 100% all predator for my equipment. This last Dec, I went and changed over my play shaft to a 30” WheatState carbon. You can find him on FB/IG. He’s the guy who created the shaft for Whyte Carbon before they were sold out and then they changed their design to (from what I hear) junk. So he’s doing his own thing and man, it plays great! I recently upgraded my break shaft to a WheatState as well from the BK Rush.
@@GC5TE40 definitely hit Stephen up. Makes amazing products, is insanely smart about how it works, can customize the cue in ways no one else can (how much feel or sound does the shaft produce)… and engraved with my name on it. 🔥
I’ll do my best! More than anything, I need to slow down and focus on the angles more. Shooting a ball in a pocket, you have a range to make it. In a combo, that becomes much smaller margin of error. But if I can avoid a combo, I will haha.
@@Poolside_Chatpractice on tables with 3-3/4" pockets That will help you focus on aiming the ball for the exact center of the pocket.
