      I think the problem is new bands don’t know how to market themselves, back then the labels did that for you. We don’t need record labels anymore with the digital age.

    • @gordianknot6867
      @gordianknot6867 Před rokem +14

      @@nonameman7114 thats the problem, the musicians that are getting big are getting big because they are good at marketing, not necessarily good at writing lyrics and playing music. Society can’t expect people to be master of all trades, I think musicians are undermining the importance of labels.

    • @gordianknot6867
      @gordianknot6867 Před rokem +3

      @@tylertbone9 I think Kurt was a great artist but frankly that’s just hyperbolic, theres a lot more to being recognised than just talent. If Kurt were to go onto American idol or X factor I don’t think he would get very far. The problem is it takes visionaries to see the potential of true artists. Most people judge potential by comparing it to the thing next to it, the trends etc
      van gogh is a great but tragic example of talent going unnoticed. Artists like Iggy Pop and lou reed both had incredibly great bands (the stooges and The velvet underground) that basically made no impact until David bowie rescued their careers.

    SEPT. 16, 1991
    What was supposed to be an acoustic in-store performance ahead of the release of “Nevermind” turned into a full-band onslaught, with fans moshing in the store. Ms. Warnick recalled the band’s earlier celebration at Re-bar in Seattle. “They had a food fight,” she said, “and got kicked out of their own record release party.”
