    NEW Most Portable Synth? | Artiphon Orba Beat Walkthrough
    So happy to release my first Orba Artiphon demo/review. It has replaced the OPZ as my most portable synth, by a long shot. In this video I make an electronic beat with Orba, walking you through each step of the process- pros and cons of the instrument and tricky little things to take note of when creating.
    Orba synth + midi controller: Take this thing with you literally anywhere. Spontaneous burst of creative energy while you're on the bus? Orba's got you. Midi controller that takes up virtually no space at your desk? You're covered. Bored out of your mind at your family Christmas get together? Orba. Has. Got. You. Covered. :-D
    Thank you Artiphon!

    Amazing coverage on the Orba!

    Just got mine yesterday, and I 100% agree that it needs quantization, it should also snap to the nearest bar when you hit the A button. Great video! Subbed!

    Ordered mine today and can't wait to try using it as an input device for my OP-Z. Both super portable and additional velocity sensitivity.

    So the Orba uses synthesis for its sounds, including drums, so there are no samples. It would be cool if they put a sound editor in the app though.

    • @LiamKillen

      That would be a game changer.

      @@LiamKillen I noticed that in app I am able to duplicate a sound and then select to IMPORT something else because it goes to my files to load something to the sound pack. Sounds like you can make your own synth file and import it. Now only if I could find out how to do this...........maybe I need to read the manual lol

    This may be just me, but I get a kind of Korg KAOSSILATOR feeling with this new synth. Don't get me wrong, this one obviously has more connectivity and way newer tech., but.....you know.

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  Před 3 lety

      I’m pretty sure you can but it might depend on the speaker. As for midi control i’ve actually never tried wireless but linking on-board sounds can be done wireless no prob.

    I don't think Orba's hardware circuitry allows for a quantization function to be implemented with a software update; only a new, redesigned version of Orba can make such a function possible.

  • @soniquest
    @soniquest Před 3 lety +1

    Nice review. I remember seeing this when it was in development. I really hope the quanitise is coming, and they're not deliberately leaving it off out of a misplaced sense of being cool like the OP1. Cause like you said, cool like the OPZ would be better in this case. I'm surprised this is quite cheap - definitely makes it more tempting. Do you have to use the app to change sounds and tempo, or are there on-device shortcuts you can memorise like with the OPZ?

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  Před 3 lety +1

      I’ve learnt since I posted this that they are in fact synths. I was thinking of like the PO 33 which I think is more of a sampler than a synth- but the older versions especially. Yeah- they synths
