NEW Most Portable Synth? | Artiphon Orba Beat Walkthrough
So happy to release my first Orba Artiphon demo/review. It has replaced the OPZ as my most portable synth, by a long shot. In this video I make an electronic beat with Orba, walking you through each step of the process- pros and cons of the instrument and tricky little things to take note of when creating.
Orba synth + midi controller: Take this thing with you literally anywhere. Spontaneous burst of creative energy while you're on the bus? Orba's got you. Midi controller that takes up virtually no space at your desk? You're covered. Bored out of your mind at your family Christmas get together? Orba. Has. Got. You. Covered. :-D
Thank you Artiphon!

yup!
Can confirm! Quantization is coming! 💪🏾😎
Aaaaaahhh game changer!
Cool. Looking forward to it
me too!
@@LiamKillen is there quantizationyet i want to buy this
not sure yet
Amazing coverage on the Orba!
You will be popular with these videos as the Orba becomes more and more popular among artists and hobbyists. Thank you so much for this coverage on your channel!
My pleasure! Cheers
Just got mine yesterday, and I 100% agree that it needs quantization, it should also snap to the nearest bar when you hit the A button. Great video! Subbed!
Appreciate that!
Ordered mine today and can't wait to try using it as an input device for my OP-Z. Both super portable and additional velocity sensitivity.
That would be a killer combo!
That noise at the beginning scared me awake. Nice
😏
@@LiamKillen I fell asleep watching synth videos. Orba looks pretty fun
Guess who just got one? 😂 I love it already. Time to create something with it this weekend. Cheers. Lee
Cheers! Glad to help
So the Orba uses synthesis for its sounds, including drums, so there are no samples. It would be cool if they put a sound editor in the app though.
That would be a game changer.
@@LiamKillen I noticed that in app I am able to duplicate a sound and then select to IMPORT something else because it goes to my files to load something to the sound pack. Sounds like you can make your own synth file and import it. Now only if I could find out how to do this...........maybe I need to read the manual lol
I haven’t looked i to this yet! Keep me posted haha
Awesome video! I got in on the Orba Kickstarter but I’m still just scratching the surface. Looking forward to more 🙏
There is more coming!! 🙂
Saw this in NAMM posts. Interesting instrument.
🍻
This may be just me, but I get a kind of Korg KAOSSILATOR feeling with this new synth. Don't get me wrong, this one obviously has more connectivity and way newer tech., but.....you know.
Interesting take
"Our Own Samples"..? I wonder if they saw your video, because now with Orba2 you can do exactly that
Right!?
Thanks!
🍻
@@LiamKillen Orba 2 was released yesterday! Wiiiiiiiiii
Slappa da bass!

LK - great intro to a unique synth/instrument. I have one on order. Can you tell me how long it took from ordering to having it in your hands?
It took a few weeks. I know they’re overwhelmed with orders you should be getting it soon!
Imagine your artiphon orba 2 synthesizer 🪁 playing through a line 6 Pod express effects pedal ☄️ line 6 catalist app 💰 Bluetooth connectivity 🌈 one adapter 📬 thanks 🚀
🤯
is it just designed to make a small loop, or is there a way of composing and arranging different sections?
It’s more of a loop machine realistically
❤️❤️
🍻
Great! Just got my orba and already love it!
Is there a way to change preset without using the app?
Thank you subscribed
I’m pretty sure you need the app for that
Fabulous .. fun .. great sounds ... thanks for the insights and tips ..
Pleasure!
Nice review for a cool device. Can you do bluetooth to a speaker, or ios bluetooth only for MIDI etc?
I’m pretty sure you can but it might depend on the speaker. As for midi control i’ve actually never tried wireless but linking on-board sounds can be done wireless no prob.
I don't think Orba's hardware circuitry allows for a quantization function to be implemented with a software update; only a new, redesigned version of Orba can make such a function possible.
Yeah I agree with ya there
It's possible, the question is: will they do it? (I'd also like quantize / arp as an option)
Damn got a full cut eh! I need one of those 😁
Haha! Yeah felt like i needed one. Looks cleaner
Can you store midi sequences or is it an audio looper?
It looks really fun and the price is great.
Thanks for the video!!
I haven’t explored the midi aspect of it too too much but audio sequences are a breeze!
Nice review. I remember seeing this when it was in development. I really hope the quanitise is coming, and they're not deliberately leaving it off out of a misplaced sense of being cool like the OP1. Cause like you said, cool like the OPZ would be better in this case. I'm surprised this is quite cheap - definitely makes it more tempting. Do you have to use the app to change sounds and tempo, or are there on-device shortcuts you can memorise like with the OPZ?
You can also change tempo on the device as well. And thank you! 🙂
@@LiamKillen cool. It seems like a nice solid device, I'd be happy throwing this into a bag when travelling.
So easy- really durable too (i’ve dropped it a few times already lol) it’s like a rock
Wait a minute, but you own pocket operators! I would think those are the smallest synths you own, they count! ...they're certainly less chonk anyway.
About the same size actually hahaha. But they’re not synths
@@LiamKillen How are POs not synths? Some aren't, but for instance the Tonic and the Speak definitely are.
I’ve learnt since I posted this that they are in fact synths. I was thinking of like the PO 33 which I think is more of a sampler than a synth- but the older versions especially. Yeah- they synths
@@LiamKillen Synths and/or toys (ha!)
PO-12 rhythm, PO-24 office and PO-33 K.O! are sample-based. The rest all synthesize their sounds (just looked it up on TE website).
Keep on rocking LK, love your Orba vids. Been eyeballing this little guy!
Thanks! And cop it! 👾👾👾
Did they send you V.2? It looks very promising
They did not!
@@LiamKillen Come on @Artiphon
Nice vid
Salutations and thank you
Can you make beats without the app?
indeed!
This is great! How often do they upload new presets?
Not sure tbh
@@LiamKillen all good. Nice vid!
cheers
@@LiamKillen its wild cus a FB ad scam for this product is going around
👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Other than just saying “connect to Bluetooth”, can anyone verify for me how to actually do it? Press the power/Bluetooth button light and it’s just a battery indicator, press and hold and it shuts off or on...that’s it.
DM me insta (at)liamkillenmusic
You ever figure it out bro

You’re looking to connect to your smart phone i’m assuming?
You’re connecting to your smart phone?
Where I can buy this product?
Google “Artiphon Orba” 🙂
Thanks bro..👍
cheers
Capacitive touch is the same thing that touchscreen on your phone uses.
Interesting. Yeah it basically eliminates latency
And trackpads as well. We're surprised it's not used more for music control.
It’s genius
yeah but its pickup-and-play
you never have to wait for it to boot up, no distractions!
all creativity and it will work without wifi and is standalone!
Also great for people with low vision who could benefit from something like this with tactil feedback
It’s a very solid lil machine overall 🌀
