Hello Captain! I haven't been on in a while. Loved your book haul. I have to say that I could not agree more on the color orange for Kipling. It makes me laugh because when you said that I just yelled "yes!". I love Kipling but have yet to read Kim, even though I own it.
I just purchased the Penguin's Classics of The Brother's Karamazov and I am waiting for the perfect time to read it and give it my full attention. I dont know why but I have this feeling I am going to love it.
I like the idea of the Wordsworth Classics for marking up....need to keep that in mind.

I do love to annotate my books, which is why I always like to buy second hand paperback classics then sometimes buy nicer editions of all time favorites. . "draw pictures in" gave me a flashback . I was reading a classic last year and to my shock when I turned to the next page , someone had drawn a large , shall we say, member of the male anatomy on the pages . For the life of me , I can't remember what the book was now because it was one I didn't keep - I"m no prude but I couldn't get past the drawing hahahaha.
Great selection of books! Resurrection is a great book. Funny enough , I read it while I was on Jury Duty a few years ago. Anna K is well worth the time !
😂😂😂 Oh my, that brings back memories. At school if you left your work books unattended then they would be full of ... things. Someone also drew a large image of a peg-legged person in my math book. It was very good, except that my math teacher had a prosthetic leg. The teacher locked me in the toilet as punishment.
Really looking forwards to Resurrection, although I'm not sure I'll be able to get on a jury at the same time.

and oh so true about the name rudyard! apparently it means red enclosure and is derived from 'red yard,' but he was named after the lake in staffordshire hm. and you should read the letters or journals of kafka! they're fascinating, and help appreciate his stories better.

The name Rudyard means the Red Yard. The Middle name of Joseph Rudyard Kipling derives from the location that his parents courted. I believe the village Rudyard is located in Staffordshire.

Hope you enjoy them. I can't figure out how they make them so cheaply. Perhaps it is a front for a money laundering syndicate. My, my, that's a good plot for a book.😀
Outside of Hunger Artist and Metamorphosis, I can't manage Kafka. The Castle made me want to jump from a turret.
Read Kafka’s short story A Hunger Artist. It’s my favorite thing by him. If you like it, you might like some of the longer works.
Wharton’s NY novels are all fantastic.

I picked up The Great Gatsby and David Copperfield which will be my second Dickens book after A Christmas Carol. Halfway through Gatsby right now, David Copperfield is going to be one of my fall or winter reads this year.

Resurrection is the favourite book of a friend of mine.
After finishing Crime and Punishment, I started The Brothers Karamazov. I do like Dostoyevsky.
I got confused: who writes the dedication of the book? Isn’t it the author?

@@tristanandtheclassics6538 I loved Kim when I read it in Junior High School and I've read The Great Gatsby a few times, which I also loved. I like Edith Wharton, read the ones you mentioned and also her travel book about an early automobile journey through France. I read Kafka in college, other than Metamorphosis, can't remember much about it. I loved Crime and Punishment and I read The Brothers Karamazov but I can't remember much and may have it confused with Tolstoy's The Cossacks.
Great list. I only read The Great Gatsby, unfortunately I didn't enjoyed it. Mrs Dalloway is on my Tbr list hopefully I will read it soon.

I’ve just read The Metamorphosis. It was definitely weird, but I enjoyed it. I wonder if it was one of the first, if not the actual first, books that is from a creatures point of view? Well I suppose White Fang could be before it maybe, I’m not sure of the dates of publication.
But still very interesting on that point of view. The family itself was… awful. You think the sister is good at the start. But even before anything happens you realise that his job is to pay off his parents debts, like he is the only one who can bring in an income etc. until he can’t. It gives me Charlie and the chocolate factory grandad vibes. Where the poor mother is working herself to the bone for everyone until a golden ticket arrives.
Overall, I was fascinated with what was going to happen and saddened by the end. (Don’t want to give it away)
I love your videos and commentaries. I wonder if you would do reviews for travel books especially those published at the end of the 19 th and the beginning of the 20 th century before the air travel. Also especially those books for Western travelers to the holy places in Palestine and to the Arabian pennensula before the discovery of oil. Also the books of African exploration

I have become hooked on watching your videos. I used some of your comments on the mark Anthony speech in Julius Ceaser in a presentation I made to a group I work with I now and for the first time am able to read Shakespeare and enjoy his writing

been watching all your videos ..thought I'd comment... Actually I hae a story to tell... Mine... I am from a really faraway broken place where I had to enroll into an educational institution where there were neither teachers present nor books... I got the degree but I know nothing.... of ENglish LIterature.... I wanted to write.. I wanted to become a writer, I still do but Now I find myself without havig read any books...having wasted my 7 years in the institution...So I was hoping you could help me... where do I start? I want to cover all my degree and also began reading the books that I should have...so any suggestions?
