- You can now drive gimbal motors with moteus with no soldering required. The torque control isn't perfect, but it still works for many applications!

Looks like a great new feature! I've yet to buy one, but seeing this... :D
Great vid - what encoder did you use and how did you mount it on the motor? Thanks
This is using the on axis magnetic encoder integrated into moteus, with a diametrically magnetized magnet glued to the axle of the motor.
Awesome. Been following your project for a while and thinking of using your controller for a gimbal project. Btw, in case I have to use a geared motor for higher torque, does the Moteus support an additional encoder feedback on gear output? Thanks.
It does, search for "moteus auxiliary encoder"!
Very good!
Thanks!
Can you show me how to measure the current pulse from the oscillocope? Where do I need to wear extra straps?
I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to. What current pulse are you trying to measure and why would you be wearing straps to do it?

I need to measure the current pulse on the oscillocope, what should I do? Can you guide me?
Is this something to do with moteus, or just how to measure current with an oscilloscope generally?
@@awesjosh yesssss. Can you help me?
Unfortunately, I'm not really set up to give that kind of tutorial. If you google for "how to measure current with an oscilloscope", you can find many resources, including this article from tektronix: www.tek.com/en/blog/how-can-an-oscilloscope-measure-current
hi Josh, I was wondering if you build your own BLDC motor or just rebrand it ?
The mj5208 is white labeled, although it was also not present in this video.
Hi Josh, does moteus support Step and direction control inputs?
Nope, not at the moment.
Do you do custom builds for customers?
Nope, but you can free advice and encouragement on the mjbots discord: discord.gg/W4hUpBb
can it work for hoverboard motors (wheels) ?
Yep, although the moteus-n1 has better support for hall encoders if you need that. You can see an example in this video: czcams.com/video/a3UA6yzzgkE/video.html
Hi Josh, does the motor tested here have an encoder?
Nope, it has a magnet attached to the axle and is using the magnetic encoder built into moteus.
@@awesjosh thanks for the quick reply. So if I were to plug my own encoder into the Moteus, is the setup easy or does it present additional challenges? For my particular use case, I have a motor with a hollow shaft and I cannot have a magnet in it or even have the PCB sensor sitting behind the magnet.
The latest version of moteus has a yet-to-be-announced feature to support external encoders. However, the only ones currently supported are on-axis encoders. Thus moteus would not be usable in that application without firmware development.
