Then the WEYCO, Georgia Pacific, and the other big boys bought out all the stumpage & run pretty much all the little guys including Granpa &Bros out of business. They didn't haul logs Then as far as they do these days.
Wet poplar is the best stuff for straping under metal siding and metal roof . Ones you put screw in it wet , them dry your metal screws never 👎 back out . Just a trick off the day . STICK on the ICE 🧊, SAW in the Wood 🪵 and RUBBER on the ROAD . 😊

Hey Andruw, I am restoring a 250-year-old grandfather clock, the door is made with oak, poplar, and walnut. I don't think that the maker thought anyone would every notice. I only say that because I'm not particularly fond of poplar.
To do bigger logs you may need to upgrade your mill . Get something more modern that doesn’t require a lot of intensive labour ,,but that’s just a idea .
If you get some monster sized logs to mill up, see if you can find someone in your area that has a swingblade sawmill. (peterson, lucas, brand x, etc) They are the ticket for doing dimensional lumber.
