- Record Store Day 2017 has come and gone, and we decided to document our time at Amoeba Music in Hollywood, where we lined up overnight to snag some excellent exclusive vinyl records. If you've never been to RSD, specifically Amoeba's version, this video will give you an idea of what the camping out experience entails. Join us as we wait overnight and talk to some awesome Too Many Records fans and fellow vinyl collectors, and then I show off my Record Store Day haul at the end!

This was my 5th Record Store day, I got to my Local store Record Collector *(Sheffield UK)* at 7 am. I think I was about 30th in line so I got everything I wanted. ^_^
*1. The Def Leppard E.P.* I'm from Sheffield, so naturally, I have to be a big Def Lep' fan.
*2. Elastica.* discovered them via a show called Trigger Happy TV who used the track 'Connection' as their theme tune.
*3. The Cure Greatest hits.* I was introduced to The Cure via this compilation when I was 12, love all these tracks.
*4. The Cure Acoustic hits.* Everyone I spoke to was after this one, so I got it on impulse at the counter.
*5. Motown Funk 22 Pipin' Hot Funk Joints.* I always get a compilation on record store day and this one caught my eye.
I also got my sister the pink single of Aqua's 'Barbie girl' at the counter saying *"It's for my sister, I swear"*
All in all, it's been a good RSD I'd say.
Tell me how those Cure discs sound!
I've never really been a fan of picture discs. But these sound really good. Especially the Acoustic Hits. Highly recommend them.
Got the Def Lep EP...i think it was originally a 7", cool this reissue is a 12" and it has the insert too...and 180 gram heavy vinyl too...got the Patti Smith Sire 7" of Hey Joe/Piss Factory, and the Roky Erikson 2LP Sire trinute "Where The Pyramid Meets The Eye"...lotsa cool releases...I want the 4LP Sire box, the 10-record Ramones singles box, the 5-record Sex Pistols box, the Beatles 7" and McCartney tape, the 2 Bowie titles, the Cars live album, the Cheap Trick, AQUA stuff cuz I love that band and they are classic bubblegum dance, but it's UK RSD and need to order it online...as for Elastica, I want that too but UK RSD too. lotsa stuff I want but on budget...
I almost bought the McCartney tape but it was £15 and I was already way over budget at that point.
My Beatle collector friend Eliot found it when we were at Newbury Comics...just sitting in a rack looking like a plain white sleeved tape, he looked at it and was like "Oh shit it's the McCartney tape!!" It was $12.99 and 1 copy left so he snatched it & looking for a 2nd copy...I almost bought the Peter Schilling "Major Tom" picdisc 7" but was $14.99, a tad much but looked cool...the coolest piece is the Blofly 12" cuz 1 side is 2 grooves and the other is playable AND etched...something Jack White would make for RSD at Third Man...I almost bought the Fawlty Towers, Dr Who & Lost In Space 12"s...those looked really neat...

As always, it was awesome Matt!!! My number 1 want was the PJ single. I've gotta have them all. Plus it's State of Love and Trust!!!! I was looking forward to The Lumineers, Jason Isbell, and Coheed and Cambria. I got them all except Coheed. Being that I'm in Michigan and most out local shops are pretty small, I'm happy to say that almost everything was available. I was first in line and only got there 2 hours before opening. Surprise pickups include Moana for my two girls, VSQ do Kanye. Not a huge Kanye fan (sorry, Matt) but I thought it sounded interesting. It's pretty great! Overall it was an awesome day. I can't wait until next year.
Another great video, just getting better. I was 45th in line at my store, and they only had one copy of my number one pick, nico & the faction's fata morgana. it was nico's last performance before her death six weeks later, an absolutely amazing listen, i'm lucky i got it. I also picked up 7 inches by the smiths, banks & steelz, and blondie, as well as the stevie nicks rarities lp and that scented peter tosh album. Got everything on my list and met some other collectors, best rsd i've had yet.

Good video....I got to amoeba at 6am and I was provably 150th in line and I got almost everything I wanted except the Pink Floyd London 66-67 which had interstellar overdrive. Still had lots of fun on my first RSD haul and can't wait til next year
Really cool purchases Matt! I got the Claypool and a a few local goodies like Lhasa - La Llorona, which was released for the first time on vinyl and limited to only 500 copies. Also Men I Trust - Men I Trust, a first release from a local band.

Tell Chris I said nice job, because this video has some of the best camera work yet. It was my first Record Store Day (not counting black friday), and I went to my shop at 5:30. I thought I was getting there early, but I was 63rd in line. Luckily I got everything I wanted. I picked up the Animal Collective EP, which is really great. Also the Pearl Jam 7", The Smiths 7", and the Talking Heads split 7". I also picked up some non RSD items, Down There by Avey Tare and Shabazz Palaces Live At KEXP, which was an RSD exclusive from a few years ago. Really excited about my haul, and very impressed by yours! Keep making great videos and keep buying records!

For 7" I got the Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Tegan And Sara side by side.
For 12" I got the Offspring, The Marcy Playground, and Space Jam soundtrack.

went to my local Wrecka Stow and rolled up around an hour before opening. I didn't have a large list due to a very strict budget but I did get what I wanted: Prince "Little Red Corvette/1999" 7" picture disc, The Beatles "Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane" 7", Star Wars 10" and the "Blade Runner" OST picture disc. I did miss out on the Toto "Africa" picture disc and 12" single of Prince "Partyman". So I bought a t-shirt with the extra money.
That's a diverse taste in music when you have Miley Cyrus, The Cure, and Pink Floyd on the same list

This year was my first RSD. I'd gone to my local record store at 6 AM and was 7th in line. Our store had this system of letting in 3 people first, to avoid any Black Friday trampling, and displayed their inventory out for them to choose. While some of the items that I wanted weren't there I was able to find 2 in my wishlist. AJJ Decade of Regression and the 7" single for The Germs's Lexicon Devil on yellow vinyl. I went back in to the line to see if i could grab something else. While waiting, a neighbor record junkie began making small talk with me about my tastes in music and so on. It was actually a pretty great conversation while waiting in line. On my second round I didn't find any other items on my wishlist, instead I bought a CD copy of Green Day's Dookie and a Vinyl copy of The Misfits Static Age. Even though I didn't get most of what I wanted, I didn't left empty handed and I left with a great experience for my first RSD. I hope in doing it all over again next year.

Gr8 video dude. I picked up the Slick Rick book & vinyl, What Time Is It? by The Time on green vinyl, the André 3000 7", & the Sharon Jones picture frame 7" vinyl; all from Empire Records in St Albans UK. Missed out on the Bowie No Plan clear etched, & the 12 Stone Toddler swirly vinyls (really wanted them), but kinda made up 4 it by getting the Drunk vinyl box by Thundercat. It has 4 10" red vinyls.
My boyfriend and I were 4th in line and we saw you walk by a couple of times when we weren't trying to sleep lol we should've said hi but I'm glad you got everything you wanted!

my store was super chill, which was good as I got what I wanted!
i got the field music album from last year's record store day and it is also solid from front to back. It came on transparent blue vinyl and it's a gorgeous looking record. Unfortunately I couldn't get their release from this year's record store day but who knows, some record stores put their remaining RSD stock for online purchase a week later.
I need to keep checking out their stuff.

I snagged the PJ 7" and AIC 7", Jason Isbell, Brother Ali, CSC Funk Band (homage to Gang Starr which is sooo good), Atomic Bomb Band, Dogfish Head volume 3, and Waxploitation presents Stories (which i learned about from one of Chris's Bullmoose videos, check it out if you haven't). The one i'm really bummed i didn't get was Czarface. Anyway keep up the good vids and keep spinning man! cheers

My haul came out to $998 (plus a $17 print that a local artist did of my local stores first location) but I got everything on my list including a signed Goo Goo Dolls box set. I'm very happy and blessed. :) Also, another great video Matt, glad you got almost everything you wanted.

Well, when they have nearly 500 titles that are all limited its hard to say "no". I also met some rad guys behind me that were super stocked to get the Coheed release.That's my favorite part, meeting other people that are super into the hobby. I had a few people try to give me a hard time when i was leaving because of the amount of items I got and calling flipper but Lunchbox has a strict 1 copy per person on all RSD releases. I don't let it bother me though because I keep all of the records I buy, I just love music and having a physical copy of it. Also, if you're ever in the Charlotte area I'd love to go hunting with you and talk records. :D
I do not know if you have one of these yet, but you should def put out some spotify playlists so we can listen to them. I would love to listen to some of the bands you talk about. Just a suggestion, I would love it!
After watching a bunch of RSD vids and reading what people bought in the comments, I get the feeling I'm that only one who bought the Hawkwind and The Sword albums.....kind of explains why it only took 15 minutes between parking my car at the record store and then driving away with my haul.
I picked up The Smiths "Boy with a Thorn" 45 and Prince "1999" 45...wanted the Cure "Greatest"
I'm kind of grateful that Record Store Day isn't a huge deal in Finland, I arrived at my local store 40 minutes before doors opened, and since there were only 3 people in line, popped out for a sandwich and pepsi, and still made it back to be 12th. Of course, said store only got one or two of a lot of releases, and plenty of the obscurer or much-in-demand ones didn't make it into the country at all.
That being said, Amoeba does look awesome. I would like to visit sometimes but me and airplanes, they don't mix.
The music so much louder in the scenic shots than the dialog is in the talking shots. It makes the video painful to watch at some points.
Picked up Sade's Lovers Rock and Love Deluxe, along with the Soul Album by Otis Redding and Too-Rye-Ay by Dexy's Midnight Runners. Was so happy to get to Gimme Gimme Records and my first visit to Mount Analog. Had a really enjoyable RSD. Hope everyone else did as well.
Mount Analog had a hand numbered copy of Sylvan Esso's new album hidden. Did you see someone grab it?
I did not and do not know the artist. You have to understand Matt, I could only stand the incense of the store for so long. It also was not my brother's most comfortable place to be. I am not aware nor cool enough to be in that store for very long.

I picked up Toto Africa 7", The Cure Acoustic Hits, Czarface First Weapon Drawn, Andre 3000 All Together Now 7" and Slick Rick Children's Story 7" w/ lyric book and cd.
I was 13th at my store Beatdisc records. Best pickups were the wombats this modern glitch (rsd limited to 750) and an original uk pressing of X-ray spex germfree adolescents.

My store is like the "black friday" style you mentioned but never an issue. The people that go when I go are respectful and cool. My store had an issue with a fight one time and shut that shit down. Never happened again. Luckily they had support as its in the mall and the mall cops here in CT look like swat teams and keep the idiots in check if any. After a few years everyone calmed down and act respectfully. Pretty kick ass you met vinyl eyezz! The main thing I wanted was the runaways and RL burnside. Runaways was cancelled but I was lucky enought to pick up the burnside. Sold very well up my way. Got one circled the tables and looked again out of curiosity and they were gone.
Been waiting on this video looks like you got some great picks. I got a lot, Old 97's, Girls in the garage, Space Jam soundtrack had to get that one, super furry animals, Carina Round, the Distillers, Avenged Sevenfold, Black lips on 4 cassettes in this mini happy meal style box, White Zombie, and last but not least Tegan and Sara/The Regrettes. It was one awesome day. But was really bummed I wanted that Slick Rick children story book none of my record stores had it and the Runaways which I think they pulled from the list again.

Hey Matt! Finally this video came out! What did you pay for Space Jam? I'm from Denmark and that one was made for US only.. found a copy on ebay for 50$ which i bought right away - i got to have that album.
Bought a lof of stuff - I'm from Denmark and there was a lot of Danish releases. Mew for example repressed their album Frengers, which you should give a listen if you don't know them ;-) Alså got the Goo Goo Dolls box which was limited to a 1000 copies.

I like your videos. My only criticism would be to do something with the audio recording levels. It is a bit too low. Maybe a new microphone?? Great video nonetheless.

I like your videos, however, you need to do something about the audio before you upload. I found myself having to turn up then turn down then turn up then turn down then turn up then turn down then turn up the volume again. It's somewhat annoying. Here's a tip, import your audio into Sony's Audio Sound Forge Studio - Effects - Dynamics - and use 2:1 compression!! Audacity has the same type of dynamics. You should do this for each video. This is the same compression that is used for radio broadcasts. It keeps most MODERN DAY INTERNET LISTENERS from having to turn down then turn up then turn down then turn up then turn down then turn up their volume.

I don't recommend it. It was my first turntable and it's just as bad as a Crosley, imo. We have a video called Turntable Starter Guide, check it out!
BlackopBrian 21 It's a decent one. I own one currently because I'm also on a budget. Not as bad as Crosley (which I have also owned). It won't destroy or damage your records, whereas a Crosley would (and for me, has). I've been using mine since last summer and I've had no problems with it so far.
