I've always thought that particular JEM in that color is one of the most beautiful guitars ever made. The white with gold hardware model is also a beauty
All I can think of when I see / hear the name Ibanez is a memory of Twisted Sister. That SICK, REPULSIVE, ELCETRIC TWANGER! Also that color reminds me of those tiny mints my grandmother would put out at Christmas. Nice neat job on the re-fret Josh. Whomever wins this is going to enjoy it I am sure.
This guy knows howto explain things. Good video. Rob
Good job. I usually very lightly chamfer the top of the fret slot too as it helps the frets sit flat
Wonderful video, thank you. What a stellar job you did.
I like the explanation on what glue he uses. I agree that super glue is not the best for re-fretting jobs which is why I think the neck is better than than when it came out of the factory. Love the tree of life inlay.
Loved this video! Great when you have "oddities" in. To me, necks & necks design is everything for guitar. I wish the designs were homogenous through the manufacturers 👌👍
Another great teardown josh 👏 interesting you didn't score the fingerboard either side of the fret before pulling. Any particular reason why?
My Ibanez RGA42 and RG370 need this treatment! Beautiful work.
RG370DXz FTW! (Gonna upgrade from nickel to stainless steel frets)
Wow what a guitar 🎸
What kind and size fret wire did you use for this one ! Great video by the way ! Well done !
Excellent video Josh! This guitar is gorgeous, and your work is top notch. I loooove ibanez necks. I'm in!
EDIT: was perfectly fine with paypal. Now, i get a "transaction error" message through the new system. Apparently my bank can't be reached...
I think they are having trouble with the amount of transactions due to the holidays. I had the exact same thing yesterday on for a totally unrelated online payment.
My favorite song for using power tools is Bad Horsie.
Great video, those are nickel frets or stainless steel?
Those fret tang nippers did such a clean job! I can't find them on the website though... What brand are they?

Dude hope you kept track of the Allen key and string snips from the Jackson job! Lol
Hmm, I was looking forward to watching a fret level & polish on this, perhaps it didn`t need one?
Definitely did haha. I was hoping for something more in-depth too.
Who first came up with the 'carry handle'...Deke Leonard with the Bullseye Tele' ?
❤
@@johngrant5749 ...It also had the square hole behind the bridge...originally for a fish tank ! (which never happened.)
I know this isn't a nut video but it would have been nice to see how to adjust the locking nut height to accommodate different height frets.
Shims
Forgive my ignorance, but is there any reason to still be using nickel frets when steel frets are so much more hard wearing? I understand there's probably a cost difference, but is it that significant?
some people prefer the tone of nickel-silver wire. If you've got a guitar that's already very bright I can understand being hesitant to go with SS frets.
5:33 jeeze those frets are so worn down
Hiya,
May I enquire who edited this video? They made a few mistakes when assembling the film in order, or might I say not in order. The laying out of the frets then picked up by the tape and then back on the fretboard. Then, the frets were pushed, glued and hammered into their slots; then they were out again, having their tangs interrupted. Not whomevers best work.
Apart from these points, this was a good video; thank you for sharing it.
Stay safe, Steve...
Hopefully, you enjoyed it anyway! Hard to say when only see faults over virtue!
Looks like the website is still down?
Check with your provider, I had issues with sky until I went to settings on my sky app and allowed the site. Also worked when just using mobile data on phone. Hope this helps
@@barrychristian4050 ah yeah works from my phone using mobile data. Interesting
@@ericl6460 think internet providers think it's a gambling site and block it
Using my phone I was finally able to attempt an order. The site sent a $0.00 test authorization which was approved but that is it. They are not competent enough to follow up with an authorization request for the actual purchase amount. I give up, don't have time for this incompetence.
I'm imagining that mustang with a tortoise pickguard.
Where's the prize draw part?

How to get chance to get that guitar?

What, no demo?
DENIED!
😯
3:41 has someone put 80/20 acoustic strings on a shred machine?? whuuuut
Those Indonesian-made guitars are getting better (assuming the wood is properly seasoned), but the fretwork is still bleh. I don't know if this is just what they're taught or what, but the bevel is waaaaayyyy too much. I imagine you all turned this into a fantastic guitar!
I swear, lutherie is becoming like watchmaking in terms of specialized equipment... 🤣
I can't even clip a toenail/fingernail without it flinging into my eye, how the hell are you doing that with frets?
Those original frets are just massacred...why lol
Where'd the bald guy get to???
Right- Ken, Glenn- old whatsisname. That guy's funny. Where is he, then?
Does this guy have a wife named Meghan??
Those jem guitars are honestly my least favourite guitars. To me they look horrible. Couldn't pay me to keep one at home.
What’s bad about them? I’ve gotten to play one and it was pretty nice, though I’m not an Ibanez fan
Each to their own. I feel the same way about gretsch guitars. Just as well there are plenty of options for everyone
@@vexedpixels Just a personal preference about how they look. If others like them that's fine but I find them very ugly looking.
And he just ruined and dinged up the paint in the Lions claw, by not stuffing a rag in there to stop the trem tension pulling the trem system down onto it and destroying the paint inside..
300 quid mistake.
I look in there whenever I buy a jem and ask for 300 quid off if there are any marks fromnthis.. That area is extremely difficult to refinish and you have to basically scrape fill and reshape it.
Why work on a jem when you don't know the most basic shit about them?
Who on earth would care about dinged paint in the trem cavity? You would never notice it
@@FrankFurther Yeah you would, most trem cavities are normally not painted or sculpted.
On a RG it is just like a black hole.
A jem is, and so it is standard practice to stick a rag in there, to stop that area being wrecked by the trem under tension.
It isn't a area you would want to ding up as it is very hard to correct on 3000 quids worth of brand new jem.,that is now damaged and worth 2500 quid.
If it is a dipped jem, you cannot fix it.
@@mixodorians12 That isnt a £2800 Jem ;) This is an indonesian premium jem. While still clearly a nice guitar, its a far cry from the Japanese ones.
Hmmm... yeah, he went through the trouble of taking the all hardware off the headstock but didn't put a rag under the bridge. Doesn't make any sense. He could have unhooked the springs in back, but then the bridge would just lift out and he wouldn't have to be levering it with the whammy bar.
@@NateBliss I didn't say it was, lots (and PIAs) are worth 3000 quid plus.
Mine (1989 ibanez VBK Jem777) is worth 6 grand.
You devalue them by not protecting that area with a rag.
It has been standard practice since the eighties, to do this on Jems.
I mean how this is even a discussion now, is blowing my mind.
The Internet will argue about anything.
