SaberTech - PROTOTYPE Item Categorizer / Slot-Reservation Free Multi-item Sorting System -- Bedrock

- Hello hello! Today I am excited to show you a brand new style of item sorters -- the item categorizer; also called a slot reservation free sorting system. If you are familiar with my multi-item sorting system, then you know that they require every slot in a chest to have an item in it. These new item categorizers can sort multiple items into chest, but do NOT require every slot to be reserved. I am still in the prototype stage, so build this current version at your own risk.

It works in series if you put a half hopper speed pulse on each module. This is pretty easy to do with 2 more hoppers. You can use the same pulse generator for each.
This is amazing saber! Holding out for the more condensed version, my wool farm needs it

Lol tying to get a double chest's worth of items and 2-wide tileable is exponentially more complicated. I've taken a break from technical stuff to focus of my Bedrockin' Minceraft series (we just had a world reset and lots of new people joined), but I can't wait to get back to this and work it out

this is the best system i have ever seen, hope one day on hypixel skyblock it will be possible to build one like this
one thing i would like is that you can place every chest next to each other or at least with only one block space between them

if you want to unload the chest faster put a second hopper underneath the chest
not enough. i dont understand how this works. clearly on one side it is a non-stackable-item sorter. but i didn`t check the hopper on the other side witch is the categorizer.
But maybe if it can replace by a dropper you have 4 more slots for items.
for the new people, it still works in java 1.20.1

I've gotten several prototypes, but something with the timings get off when I put them in a row. For right now I am completely focused on my Bedrockin' Minecraft series since the server just had a reset and there are a ton of new players on it.

I used a dropper chain to hold the items. It could hold more but it was random.
yep -- I've tested with droppers, but like you said they are random
would it be possible to combine two slices with one output. it would have a larger footprint but you'd be able to sort way more Items.
probably, but I don't know if the larger footprint would be bigger or smaller than just having 2 side by side
i tried building this on bedrock 1.16, but im having trouble getting it working. Is it confirmed to work in after the nether update? sorry if it does work and im just stupid
edit: after some more troubleshooting, ive found the problem to be the the dropper putting the filter items up into the hopper is not activating correctly and the hopper taking them out of the main hopper line. the hopper underneath the hopper line is activated for 1 tick to take the filter item out, but it needs another tick to put the item into the dropper, but an extra tick would take other items from the dropper line we wouldnt to remove.
again i apologize if im just copying it incorrectly, but i just cant seem to get it working.

The system is amazing but you can sort only 5 items per category, what if as filter instead of using an hopper inserting items from the side you use a chest with items extracted from the top?
possible and that is what I am working on now -- 2 wide tileable and a double chest's worth of categorizing :)

Not well. I have gotten several working models, but as soon as I put them in a series they start breaking. I have been inspired multiple occasions and spent most of my MC time for a few days straight working on this. Right now, I've lost inspiration, and I don't enjoy working on it -- when I get motivated I work on it, but I play MC for fun and consider it a hobby; I am not going to make myself do something that I don't want to do.
That being said, writing this reply has done made me want to have at it again -- thanks for giving me some inspiration :)

I don't know how many other prototypes I've made, but they keep failing when I put them in a series -- hopefully an update next week

Is it possible to make a sorting/storage area with a bulk storage (maybe with shulker loaders) and an item categoriser, all running out of one chest?
absolutely, you just need to have them connected so the items go to through each one.
I always have bulk storage before my multi item sorter, and I will probably have the categorizer after the multi item sorting because it has to slow items down to sort them.
