- It's that time where I decide on my 2023-24 player of the year.
I'm sure there'll be a few I've missed off on my run down, and I'm sure you'll be sat staring at your phones, or even your tellys shouting "How can you miss player X off your list".
But if I mentioned them all it'd be 3 hours long.
Let me know who's been your player of the year in the comments!

Bernard for me. Such a consistent performer that does the modern play of a CB yet can defend and his judgement is second to none.
I agree with you Bernard for me as well, comfortable on the ball and loves a header and tackle
Do you think he'll re-sign lads?
@@sheffcam4960got a feeling he will. I think most will if Danny stays (he will)
We agree. We could feel the depression coming off the players in waves under "disco"
Vaulks for me, he’s been absolutely outstanding. Actually think he’s been even better this season at a higher level than last. Works so hard, wins basically every second ball, in the air and on the floor, and offers us such a composed head in our midfield. Warrior and a leader.
Valentin has been superb last half of the season too. Honourable mentions for Baz, Marv, Dom and Dish.
UTO 🦉
It's got to be Vaulks. Not just for his consistency in performances, but also the effect he has on the squad. When you see behind the scenes footage, in the dressing room etc, he is always the one lifting everyone's spirits and joking around. That's very important, especially when you're having a tough season and it would be easy to fall into a mental spiral.
Vaulks for me, has been consistent and a stand out performer. Also kept fit
Yeah, Bannan is clearly Wednesday through & through and his commitment is never in doubt. Having said that I do like Vaulks myself. His importance to the team seems to be more than just on-pitch too. Every time I see those Wednesday 'Match Day' clips behind the scenes he seems to be just so relaxed & upbeat in the changing rooms and yet can dial up that intensity when he gets out on the ground. I think he & Pato are unofficial morale officers who the players just seem to enjoy being around.
I have been a wensday eite since about 1962 but i live in germany and Depend on you to keep me informed you talk more sence than all the others put together i have to use a wheel chair now so i cant come to hillsbrough but you and you tube keep me going thanks a Lot
That's a lovely message, thank you very much.
It really means a lot to know that these daft little videos help people still feel that connection to all things Wednesday.
👊🏼🦉💙
I think I agree with you about Bannan.
Well done jim gor the season look forward to next season.
Ps a bit shorter tho next season.😂
I have to say Valentin. Since coming in he has consistently improved and been key at right wing back. But, Vaulks, Bernard, Ugbo, Palmer etc.......everyone has been awesome! WAWAW!
He's come on absolute leaps and bounds since that rinsing by the Swansea winger. Looks a different player. Such a great outlet going forward too
A late one this! Overall I have to agree with you, I think he has been the best player overall and remains a talisman. Though I must say that I think young Musaba, though raw, has shown glimpses of his potential and hopefully he can push on next season and be pushing for the POTY awards himself.
Enjoy your summer.
Unless you're planning on some Euro content?
Yeah, definitely, top scorer and more to come from him I'm sure.
Everyone that played apart on this wonderful journey for me Jim ...Hard to just pick 1 👍🏻🇮🇪
It's a tough one this year. I'm leaning towards Vaulks myself. On top of his open play I think his set pieces helped improve us too when he got put on duty. I expect there will be some changes in the summer but I do hope some of these players are re-signed. They have proven since Danny came in that they can do it in this division.
PS- My wife says you should do a radio show as you have a soothing voice!
It was a really close call. As I said Vaulks allows players around him to do their own thing.
My Mrs thinks I'm a mumbler who needs to speak more clearly!
Surprised Musaba didn't get a shout Jim! Top scorer (8), top assister (5), young lad, new country, new club, been available all season (played most games - 48), wasn't traumatised by Xisco, and has been a key player under Rohl. Reckon he's probably worth a few bob right now.
Given his stats, I know this will sound odd. But I wanna see more from him🤣
Expecting big things from him next sesson
@@sheffcam4960 Amen, he's definitely capable of more - and the last 6-8 games he's looked a different level. Long may that development continue (or we get a £20m bid in!!)!! 👍
At one stage I thought Gassama was going to take his place but he came back really strong
You should sell them mugs and I’ll have a hobknob if there’s any spare
Keep up the good content and Championship for another season
WAWAW 🦉
I was gonna send him the Mr Man one, not the one with my head on it! 😅
Bernard for me, Rohl will be a big pull for him but someone else will offer him a lot more money unfortunately.
Vaulks for me. Our winning spells were when he was playing regularly.
I have to give it in 3 sections jim.
Most improved - pol valentin
Player of the season - will vaulks
Most potential - Anthony musaba
Im expecting big things from musaba next season, still very raw and young hes gonna make a seriously good player in time 🦉🦉
Hard to choose between them but yes Captain Fantastic just about shades it. Word legend gets bandied about too much these days but our Baz definitely fits the bill. 💙⚽️
The official Mr J player of the season is...
Will Vaulks.
Closely followed by Bannan and Valentin who's had a fantastic second half of the season.
Absolutely pivotal in our form at this back end of the season.
100% Vaulks for me too. Been outstanding.
Musaba, bernard and vaulks. Id personally give the award to musaba. But i likely would have given it benard if he stayed injury free. Wednesday look impenetrable with him at the back.
Bannan for me.
Iorfa for me Jim. I know he was sidelined for a good part of the season, but when he came back, he carried on where he left off, looking solid and making the most of his pace. It will be interesting to see who gets it for sure, there are a number of candidates in the running! Enjoy your summer mate and thanks for some great content throughout the season. UTO
Eh? Good player but he missed most of the season
Like I said, superb in November real blow he got injured when he did. But came back strong again at the end, and a good job too with the knocks we picked up at the Death!
Jim, you’re right about playing out from the back. Reading between the lines with player interviews they’ve mentioned it after a bad run. Week later they only play out when needed and go on a run!
If he doesn’t learn he will sign and be sacked before xmas as teams work us out!
Sign and Play Second division football ffs!
For me I'd put Bannan in the Sheridan role and Vaulks could be the box to box Carlton Palmer midfield that I think we desperately need
If it was for the last 5 games theres only one man who deserves it,musaba! West brom couldn't handle him and same with Sunderland! Unplayable for some teams but I'd give it to Pol Valentin! Gives 110% every game and has blossomed this season! Got better nas better game after game
Difficult one as it was a tough old season with a complete write off for the first 12 games
Then we had players and general team performance going through peaks and troughs.
However, for me it’s a toss up between Bannan, Musaba and Bernard. Musaba has been a vital source of goals and we would have gone down without him. Even if we simply took off the two goals against Stoke and QPR (90+ minute winners), we’d have gone down.
The prized "Hobnob Award"
Keep some of those hobnobs for yourself for another year of excellent content, always entertaining and insightful even when the rest of us are shaking like a gordie taking a maths test. keep up the good work have a great summer and see you next season.
P.s. looking forwards to the blooper reel, hope the wife will be on again giving you grief again! 🤣
I'm off the biscuits, sadly. Maybe I shouldn't have scoffed so many over the years and then I might be able to still have some now!!
But I'll have a celebratory carrot 🤣
I've had a few comments, people seem to enjoy our lass b0llocking me, yer sick sods!!
There are several candidates as you say, I look at players that don't just bring something on the field but off it. Vaulks is a top character on and off the field, in the dressing room you can see he's the guy that can lift the mood, break the tension. That being said I have to go with the captain, he's not only exceptional on the field, rarely below par. He carries so much on his shoulders being the captain of this club. He's bonded with Rohl, you can see how much respect they have for each other, it's essential the manager has that in his captain.
Now I need to keep my eye on Baz's twitter to see him post his appreciation for the Hobnobs and mug. 😂😂
I expect he's off on his jollies, they'll be soggier than a sailors sock by the time he gets em!🤣
Vaulks got it ill accept that along with bernard and ugbo
Before I even watch the video for me it's will vaulks...he steps up every time he puts on the shirt... he's got the will to win...will to win old Wednesday vhs from 1990...I knicked it from me cousins house 😂....p.s do videos on England or any Euros we'll all watch them I'm sure... it's definitely coming home... maybe 😁🏴🥇uto
Aye, a full summer of football to come.
I voted for Bernard
I'm OK with that choice. Good point about players 'following orders' under Xisco too, I noticed that myself. We shouldn't be too hard on him though, what he walked into was chaos that would break many a manager and the poor bloke was clearly just in a blind panic by the time the end came. Perhaps it's an irony that the only guy who could sort it out was one who'd never done the job before and maybe didn't even realise just how dysfunctional the club had become compared to others. Any road, all's well that ends well eh?
Yeah, he walked into a sh!t storm. I don't recall him having many staff either. His brother one of the coaches?
I'll be fair to him on one thing, he's spotted and brought it some young lads with real potential.
Turn the Auto Focus off Jim. Making me feel pissed 😂.
I'll have a look at that. Though in all honesty...I ain't got a clue with the tech! 🤣
As you are fairly stationary you should be ok as long as it's in focus to start with. Cracking content as always mate
Bannan allday for me pal
Valentin and vaulks close though
Terrific once again.
Bannan for me by a mile, yet again.
Ashley Fletcher for me !! Great signing
🟨 !!
@@sheffcam4960 according to Wikipedia he’s a striker !! Without a goal scoring record though 🤣
Hilarious Jim pack of hob nobs and a mug
