I gotta agree that I love Laura's exotic gear. But it always boggled my mind why her alt "Bonita" costume was used during the wrestling cutscene. A girl with her cheeks & chi chi's dangling out doesn't seem to practical for a wrestling match.
To be fair R.Mika makes it work.
I know. Which is ironic given the fact that R. Mika was wearing a fullbody suit that was more safe for work in the cutscene I mentioned.

Honestly, I'm okay with Laura's personality for very personal reasons. I'm not exaggerating when I say I have a sister EXACTLY like her. And she wasn't really stupid, just a bit lacking in the maturity department. She too tends to not tell people where she's going, and isn't too eloquent when talking. She might've not been a martial arts master but she was one hell of an athlete from youth up into college. I also tended to be the more mature out of both of us despite being the younger sibling. Basically, I like Laura because she's like my sister except a martial artist and with a larger cleavage.
Right? same here, she is like a lot of big sis in the world.

i had an idea of what lauras character motivation could have been. since sean was our previous foundation for a "Matsuda" i think laura's backstory should have played off the information we already know about Sean, and the biggest thing we know about sean is that he looks up to and wants to be like ken masters. Now imagine this; Laura is trying to lead and promote her family's dojo, her whole family is involved except for one person. Sean.
I think an older sister trying to get her brother to recognize her and get him to take Matsuda jiujitsu seriously would be a nice connection between the two, besides just relentlessly teasing him all the time (though its something siblings do but its the only interaction laura has with her brother in sfv). That motivation would make sense to why she travels around fighting people so she can gain notoriety and impress her brother. I think Sean would be impressed if he saw his Sister 1 Vs 2 R Mika and Zangeif on live tv(the scene from the sfv story), maybe asking ryu for guidance on how to get her brother to recognize martial arts similar to the advice he gave sakura. maybe instead of going to shadaloo for the hell of it what if her motivation was that she would hope sean would see her as a superhero if we helped save the world from shadaloo, fighting karin for the latest game console so she can bribe sean into doing more martial arts, the list can go on and on if you try to related her encounters with other character to her brother. Missed opportunity but there is still room for her to grow character wise
Weirdly, I think giving her less story would make her stronger, going all out Bunny Ears Lawyer and having her get stuck into the fight by making her some kind of joyful party girl who trades out tequilas for putting you in an electrical leglock and putting you in the dirt instead. There's nothing wrong with a character getting stuck into a World Warrior setting for no reason other than the sheer joy they experience from it, and it would have made her much more endearing.
My sister's style is garbage. I grew up with her repeatedly and airheadedly harassing me the same stupid way on a daily basis. If her style were any good, I wouldn't have sought out Sensei Masters!

just one little thing about Laura using onomatopoeias so much is that it's kind of a Brazilian thing. We do like our noises in our phrases.
As for the rest, it's kind of disappointing to see another Brazilian character be used for nothing serious. There's already not many of them, with some not even showing their faces in canon, like Fábio, Laura's and Sean's older brother, but having only one of them doing anything serious at all in the franchise and then seeing him get sidelined as a damsel in distress in SFV is pretty sad. Also, is it me or is there a stereotype in Street Fighter about Brazilians being idiots most of the time? Blanka certainly isn't helping and Sean, the exception, gets the shaft most of the time. Okay, if our political situation is anything to go by, yeah, most of us aren't the brightest but geez, we're not that stupid

Yeah it's really annoying that she's pretty much just an attractive lamp hell you wouldn't even need to change her personality too much to make her interesting just make her a fun thrill seeker whose still a little ditzy but not super childish and bam much better

Love the content bro. Capcom should really make you the official story historian and writer for the franchise. There is no reason that Streetfighter with its illustrious history should be out done by Netherealms Injustice game as far as story.
To be fair Injustice has 70 something years or over of iconic characters to work with so it has a bit of an advantage there so they probably don't have to work as hard.

A great example would be how the comics explain away characters not being in the games 9/10 the comic will kill them off and that's that (this really needs to be approved on)
I would agree with you. As good as the comic is, and as a game concept, those slip ups gave the universe and the tale a black eye. But Injustice still goes hard.
Are you kidding. Comparing to the universe that NRS created to what Tekken, Streetfighter and KoF ended up with, they are vastly better. Tekken's creator even came out and said how he was shook by the cohesiveness and detail to something that was a second thought and throw away to most. Which says a lot being that Tekken had the best potential story wise.

I have to agree. Laura has become one of my favorite Street Fighter characters, but beyond her looks, fighting style and positive attitude she doesn't have much to really offer. I'm honestly afraid that SFV will be her only game. I hope if they bring her back they mature her a bit. Especially if the next game takes place after SF3 (which I hope it does).
As a Latino (Mexican) i feel that Laura is the first latino character that acts like one... T. Hawk was weird and have nothing mexican, Blanka is an animal without character, El fuerte was really cool on his moves but his personallity was like a japanese seeing a latino for the first time and only thinking that he is loud xD, Sean was a black american teen... but Laura!!! She is joyful, loves her family over everything else, picks fights for nothing, makes noises (like people from Brazil told you) because latinos are like that xD, we talk about a fight and we are like "he punched the guy and hit the floor like POW!! and then he was like wiii because he was dizzy"... if you talk with some latina your chances are 90% sure that you will find a Laura xD

jitsu style by showing it off in hope of it becoming the greatest martial artist in the world is because that’s exactly what Royce Gracie did granted the Graces started a tourney to show off Ji-jitsu against different styles not travel around the world but I think it’s an amazing homage to one of the most influential moments in martial art history

Or is it that that is the point.. Maybe she is just the medium to understand how Sean met Ken and began training in sf iii...

lol that's a lie. Balrog, Bison, Chun, Ken, Cammy, Juri, Karin, Sakura, etc all had tremendous character development from previous games to where they stand now.

This is exactly why I turned down their offer to have me in Ad Fighter V. The role they wanted me to play just doesn't fit my personality. That weird actor they hired to play the role of younger me did a terrible job and made me feel justified in turning them down. I've been working hard and getting better every day, and really want an opportunity to show off my progress, but not if it involves them limiting me to one or two of my moves so they can sell me dressing in chewbacca costumes. I guess I'll just stick around on the amateur circuit until Capcom gets their crap together 乁 ˘ o ˘ ㄏ

Here's the way I see it:
Laura is the one that best exemplifies your ideal Visual Design. All the right colors, all the right accents. For all intents and purposes, she's perfect in your eyes...in VISUAL DESIGN ALONE.
Sean, on the other hand, is the Personality and Importance that Laura lacks. No, not the Sean in SFV; I'm talking about the headstrong go-getter; the Shoto that's not a master, but holy hell is he working his ass off to be one. Also, while his importance in the SF Universe is to symbolize the passing of time in the mainstay crew, he also represents the heart and soul of Street Fighter; living for the fight, never letting defeat get you down, that you may lose TODAY, but you can win tomorrow.
I, too, wanted to play as Sean in SFV and was saddened by Laura taking his spot, but after viewing this, I can see how these siblings can be in this universe. Oh well, here's hoping they give Laura a little more Personality and Importance...because after all, she's not mentioned in SFIII (even though it's a game back in 1997).
As for the backstory...it makes Big The Cat's backstory like the LoTR trilogy...damn.

Thank you for the support! I do what I do because that is my character, and I don't let it bother me that for every one person like you that actually gets it there are a million haters that don't understand how hard Sensei Masters worked to get to the level he is at. I would still be sitting on some steps, fumbling with my Tiger Electronic handheld and trying not to get bullied right now if I actually listened to what they said.
That said, vindication is always nice. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to enter the upcoming 6th tournament (assuming my sister does as well). Once and for all, I'd like to show her how predictable and shoddy her garbage style (that she attributes to our last name without my consent) is when her opponent is paying attention to her actions instead of the actions of her chest!

To be honest, on the subject of onomatopoeias, Ive read a few comments saying its accurate and I gotta back that up but more so that its a bit of a spanish/latin/ people further south thing. I'm Mex/Salvi mix and to be honest I do the onomatopoeias as well as the fact that my family has several "Laura"s in it. Also, the flirty nature i would like to say is a staple that is found to be rather common for both men and woman. To be honest even further, and this might sound rather strange, but she seemed a bit tame to me. An odd thought to be sure.

I feel this so much man. She’s my main, I too loved her intro trailer, third strike connection and yea she’s hot. Turns out she is fun to play but her “character”, personality and place in the franchise is almost laughably weak and it does disappoint me. All I will say is. Dear god make Laura figures Capcom, I won’t ask for anything else.
Though I’d love to see her improved on in future media but like you I doubt it.

I don't believe it took me this long to watch the video about this character from my own country, haha! I think it was a good analysis, very fair.
I also see many people in the comments discussing the habit of adding sounds when talking and how that's normal in Brazil / Latin America. It's kind of true, sometimes we do, we even joke by making the person repeat the sound so we laugh at it. But the way Laura does it doesn't feel the most natural. Reminds me, indeed, of Japanese anime characters that are labeled as childish for their age. She doesn't need to be a femme fatale to sound like an adult, Brazilian women like her would be definitely more playful and light-hearted than, say, Bayonetta, but something's off. Maybe it's just how Japanese stereotypes work.

She's a physically strong character and I like the colour motif but she needs character development (and nobody make the obvious joke about "development"). Though, I'm not trying to be unkind to her character for what it is.
She sounds like Dory, but either way I really hope they let her grow as a character. 🤞🤞🤞
