    That's a good looking knife! I've worked with wood for 30 years and never thought of using that wood stabilizer for a finish, thank you very much for sharing, I've subbed.

    I like that you kept the scales on the blade.
    And the colour of the wood really fits the build.

    Nice job, it's pronounced "ski-an do" if anyone's wondering, and that one would get you arrested here lol. Mostly a small ceremonial one is worn near the sock if wearing the kilt. Usually at weddings nowadays.

      Andrew Hanowski what was this of 0-1 stock did you use? I am going to get a bunch of 1080 from admiral steel in the near future so i can start laying in a hamon.

    • @andrewhanowski9601
      @andrewhanowski9601  Před 7 lety

      O1 is a pretty standard steel that's easy to heat treat. The customer may have wanted it also. I don't reccomend it for fancy hamons and don't know too much about 1080 but it will probally be better for hamons then o1. Lots of info on the internet from people who work with these steels! Personally I water quench 52100 or 1095 for hamons, but that isn't really a beginner thing to be doing!

    Sgian dubh in Scots Gaelic translates to “black knife”.The Gaelic here in Ireland spells it like Scian dubh.Claymore is cliamh mór/ciamh maith.Which means big sword or good sword.

    • @andrewhanowski9601
      @andrewhanowski9601  Před 7 lety

      You got to temper them. They will chip if you don't. I tempered it to a golden wheat color. Use a blow torch and heat the handle area to a blue and let the heat slowly change the color of the steel until the edge is wheat. If you go a little blue it's fine for a chisel.
