- Hi everyone,
Welcome to this video about my fujinon tv zoom lens. I've had this lens for about 2 years but never used it until now. I plan to use this in films, weddings and content creation because it's absolutely WILD!

I got a B4 lens for my BMCC 2.5K a few years ago but it didn't come with a doubler and the vinetting is pretty obvious. After watching your video I thought to look up if they sold them seperately but I found someone who's done pretty much the exact same thing as I want to do with a 1.4x teleconverter! It never occurred to me to try one of those, haha!
Thanks for the inspiration/getting me to look deeper into it!
Ahhh thats a good idea! I'm going to pin this for others to see.
Thank you
Just an FYI from someone who has tried it all and done the A/B testing, the built in doubler within lenses actually offers some optical correction. Whereas an external teleconverter does not. You will still have a heap of spherical aberrations with a external teleconverter.
Optical correction is key to getting a useful image out of a converted 2/3" B4 lens, whether that is a 50% correction from the doubler or a 99% optical correction correction from a correcting adapter.
If you need additional resources on adapting B4 lenses, it's kinda what I do ✌️😊
@@jamesandcamera I did actually see your videos when I was searching but as I was looking specifically for EF mount camera details I put them in my watch later list to watch later today!
@@renbymon yeah reflex mounts like EF and PL are tricky as there are very few optical corrective adapters available in reflex mounts that do a good job at correcting the spherical aberations.
I usually recommend people get a mirrorless mount camera if they are looking to get any sort of good image quality performance from adapting 2/3" B4 lenses
That DHL looking van at 8:15 with Jesus on it was something i would never expect to see🤣
🤣🤣 that was crazy but unique.
Love the funky & 70's vibes here.
Cheers brother and thanks for jogging my memory on this lens 🙌🏾🙌🏾
This setup looks insane, I love it.
Thank you. It's a big beast but functions well.
You could use the backfocus adjustment on the lens to get it perfectly parfocal. It´s nearby the Macro ring.
Thank you sooo much, I had no idea you could do that. I will do this first thing in the morning 🙌🏾
Hey, I just did and yes it's now properly parfocal 🙌🏾🙌🏾 thanks again.
Explain that on a new video.. i got an old zoom lens like that for like 5 years nontine or budget to make it fit on a canon 650d.. since this crop mood thing and getting back to video production that would be nice. Dont know how to give power to it too.
@@cliqueimarketing can these lenses be mounted on EF? I thought the flange distance would be a huge problem.
I saw on other videos people doing it on a lot of cameras.. like on this video.. 650d has apsc so it must work..i saw using a speedbooster too..it makes the distance from the sensor higher.. maybe that croping problem can ve fixed with this trick our friend just told
Love the aesthetic, I've wanted one of these for awhile! Seems like the perfect documentary lens for S16 sensors. Also love the Simon shaking his head cameo 😂
Yeah bro, totally sold on these lenses. I can think of something many use cases too.
Yeah he's so technical that he'd laugh at my soldering 🤣🤣
I always love when lenses have a look to them, plus with the zoom features it makes it super niche 🎉. Super great to see it in action 🔥. Congrats of configuring it as I’m not sure I’d have made it that far 💪
Yeah it's so much better than the standard sharp glass... although both have their place.
I think this lens looks good clean or dirty.
Lastly, it wasn't that hard really. I think they look intimidating but the parts were so easy to come by.
That’s one cool kit you’ve put together there!
Thanks man, kinda big but very easy to manage and shoot with.
Dang this makes me want to start looking for one!
Nigel, I swear this lens will be with me forever now. I really want to test it on an FX30. I think for wedding shoots this will be insane.
Please get one bro.
This is awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks man, much appreciated 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Bloooooming awesome!!!!
Cheers brother 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Man ive been eying up the Fujinon XT20XF4.7brm hdtv lens this looks very similar. I absolutely live the image and im so sick of the sharpness these days myself. As always your a boss man!
Man, you gotta get one...so versatile it's crazy.
I don't like the sharp looks either but I think putting one of these lenses on the gh7 or FX30 could still be exceptionally great. I'd mainly use it with slightly older sensors though.
Love it, great for sports & far reaching live, events, weddings, wildlife, etc That’s a main advantage with smaller sensors & smaller image circle coverage lenses, although I would pair it with another camera or lens to handle wide focal range
Awesome, those are fantastic use cases. We can't write off MFT, apsc just yet as there's so much you can do with them. I would like to try a larger sensor...I think FX30 would be fantastic with this lens.
The 35-150 2-2.8 is getting there
good to see your having some fun...nice intro
Thanks brother. It's nice to take the seriousness out of it and just have fun man. And thank you about the intro...I was trying resolve 19 film grade plug-in to really push it.
great work
Thank you
Nice job on the explanation, and your shooting and editing. I used to shoot on B4 2/3 inch lenses since the mid 1980’s. I really miss them for news gathering. To get full fame lens that has the same capabilities of your lens would cost about 34,000 USD. Good work and thanks for sharing!
Thank you, always good to hear from the veterans in this game.
Yes I can imagine the price would be insanely high.
Thanks for the comment Mark.
Dude, This cool. Waiting for you to shoot a film.
So cool bro. Man, I could use this one lens to shoot a short ....Very versatile.
Nice lens to have in your bag :-) Parfocal and I just love the color it renders. I already missed some really bargains .... ( Have fun with the new toy 😅
Yes I can imagine this being so handy for a lot of things. It's a shame you missed out but I'm gonna say that you have to get one...I recommend everyone to get one if you don't shoot full frame.
Thanks for the comment.
And yes, I will have lots of fun 😁
That was quick.. CZcams told me in one minute 😂 you got way too many nice toys not to share some with me. Another good one 👍
🤣🤣 thank goodness, hopefully the algorithm likes me now. I was saying to Simon the other day that there's too much stuff in this studio and I need to get rid of some stuff.
@@Altcine well, in that case, wanna trade some gear against a week bed and breakfast in the Netherlands? 😎 Putting my address on here doesn't seem prudent 🤣
@@annebokma4637 tell me what you need 😁
@@Altcine did you just delete my two comments or is CZcams acting up again?
@@annebokma4637 they're still there, I can see them.
Crazy lens!
Absolutely insane
Cheers much, love it, just not the price 😂, but definitely well worth it, maybe a bit too soft, but can add sharpening in post ❤
Haha yeah but there's cheaper versions out there.
I'm going to try this again with the FX30 and see how it looks.
@Altcine Lol
Awesome idea
I look forward to the video 😀❤️
I loved my Fujinon A14x9BERM on m4/3 from a few years ago. I traded the nice analog zoom rocker for autofocus with the Sony SELP18200 on APS-C
Wait, wait....you have autofocus on your Sony?
@@Altcine the SELP18200 is an E mount 11x power zoom, but not internal zoom. It's 18-200 f3.5-6.3 and the power zoom moves slower bc it's moving the front element out but I've accepted that tradeoff since it does most things my B4 lens did plus autofocus and it's got no weird 3CCD chromatic plane aberrations and is sharp enough for 24MP stills. I use it on an old Sony VG30 with a built in zoom rocker and an external LANC zoom control tripod clamp but it works on any Sony E
@@rzimbauer ok thank you. I will research it and I may come back for more info if that's ok?
I like it
Yeah man, sooo many ideas come to mind.
Genial 😊
My true nature 😁
Are you planning to build a shoulder rig to accommodate the design of the lens?
I have all the parts for a shoulder rig so I definitely will when shooting my next short film.
nice dude
Thanks man
Question: do people bother you when moving around in public with a setup like this? Also do you have a bag for the eclipse?
All the time brother, all the time. It was the same with the M-Lite too...so many questions.
I do have a box for the Eclipse but I hate carrying extra stuff so I just carried this bazooka in my hands.
@@Altcine NAJZZ :D
If using a lens like this on black magics URSA mini line of cameras one can use their official B4 mount which has glass inside it that crops the lens to fit the sensor size correctly
@@gryffinmorgan True Ursa 12K does nicely with Super16 & B4, the Ursa broadcast probably even better hence the name broadcast
Yes that's right. The guy who gave it to me had the B4 mount on the Ursa.
The teleconverter aspect is secondary. The main benefit is that it corrects for the three chip prism colour fringing you get with these lenses when using them in a CMOS sensor.
@@TheTechnoPilot I don't see it when using the doubler though. I've looked through tons of clips and they all look great.
@@Altcine The doubler reduces it a lot, but it is responsible for a lot of the haloing/ghosting when at maximum aperture and would improve the image performance. It is why though most adapters don't bother to make this more complicated image correction and only are a doubler/tripler.
WEW, WE WE WEW! we wee wee weow!
WEW, WE WE WEW! we wee wee weow!
Lol songs in my head now:)))
🤣🤣 crazy tune
Fuji makes good broadcast lenses... crash zooms servo moves were usually a mistake when you’re chasing down a shot(live broadcast) and you thought you were clear 😮😄
🤣🤣 good to know, I thought they were on purpose, like in The Office.
Why do B4 mount adapters have that bottom support leg?
Not all of them do and you can remove it. I just left it on so I don't have to use rods with lens support.
is the eclipse canceled? i neeeed one. My og micro needs an upgrade. in the mean time ill just order the expansion pack and twiddle my thumbs
It's not cancelled but because of my mix-up, I'm not doing anymore vids until V2.
My dude, you would probably be super interested in watching my videos about adapting 2/3" B4 lenses to CMOS sensor cameras.
Particularly how to correctly back focus a B4 lens 😊🤙
I'm on it brother, thank you. I'm super interested in these now and if I return to shooting professionally....this the way forward.
Get an optical adapter!!!! It'll blow you away at how much better it can look.
Really! It'll be better than what it is now?
Random question, what is the name of that shoe at 8:02?
Those are Adidas.
adifom climacool
bro whee did you get that side handle?
That's our own design called the AOG SLINGER. We're putting this out for people to buy but currently the price would be about £80.
I'm trying to source the metal structure to make it more affordable. We could have so much stuff out if we charged higher prices but we don't want to do that.
@@Altcine it looks awesome! i would like to have one! it looks great! greetings from Budapest!
@@JOEBLACK1979 thanks man, appreciate that. Bare with me and we will work to reduce the price.
I was given a bunch of those lenses years ago, sat in my shop for years…I finally threw them away, years later I’m trying to buy one cause I saw someone using it on one of my events…talk about sick
Ohhh damn bro! I feel you though...I was so close to getting rid of this without trying.
I hope you find some good priced replacements.
I want to know the future on the whole mft scene when the whole industry moves to semi/stacked sensors.
The z6iii does 6k60 no crop / 4k120 crop with sub 10 ms rolling shutter and 13-14 dr with nr while capturing internal raw, and the a7s4 is using the same setup.
The nikon z50/z80 is reportedly coming with a stacked 20mp 4k60 and the zve10ii is launchinf next month for 800$ and 4k60 with ibis ( budget a67/fx30 basically )
The a7v is also coming with a stacked 33mp and prob 7k60.
I just dont really see a bright future other than for broadcast uses like this.
I don't know the future but the zve10ii you mentioned sounds like a camera I need.
@@Altcine you wont like it , the a6700 with its large ff metal body overheats - and now that sensor is going into a smaller plastic apsc body.
Remember the zv-e1 ? , this will be worse
@@JJARCHIE damn! I'll still check it out when it comes. Thanks man
Fuck yeah👏🏼🙌🏼🤘🏼
😅🙌🏾🙌🏾
Yo, I love the whole shortening of the cable.
Everyone: Zip ties...
Cole: Nah. Ima cut and solder this thing
🤣🤣 bro, I tried that but it was messy man. They had to get the chop.
Soldering is good, i just wanna se them solder joins one day knowing well the iron Cole used😂🤣
me: runs to Ebay right after
🤣🤣 I think you can get much cheaper ones too but I believe you will need the corrector.
came back....yeah, I can't afford it...cry to sleep
Gotta love those eng lenses.
FF need not apply 🤣😅
Haha yeah, I tried it on my FX3 and it was a mess. I gotta pair it with FX30 though, I think it will be amazing.
Ready for an extreme dolly zoom!
Coming right up 😅
Bro, I love this zoom, take my money 💵 how much are we talking about?
I love it too man, going to put this in so many videos.
I think an affordable way to go would be to get one of the cheaper B4 lenses and the fotodiox adaptor with optional corrector.
Price will vary though
you know you can just unscrew a d-tap end, shorten the cable and screw it back together 😅
You learn something new everyday 🤣🤣 this is why Simon does all the electronics.
3:33 Typical, I wouldn't expect any thing less from you ... 😏
😁😁🙌🏾 just like real life. If it's long...cut it off
this intro was Porn
😁🙌🏾🙌🏾 thank you brother
i doubt you find these anywhere for 2k pounds ..
You don't think so?
I saw this one on eBay but I'm not totally sure.
