  • In this video mike and I put together a carryall for around the property. This should be a must have attachment for gathering firewood, moving materials, watering trees, transporting maple sap and many other uses we haven’t thought of yet! Enjoy the video.

    Great idea. Much cheaper than the ready made options. Thanks for showing us how you did it. Finished product looks good & strong. You might want to stain / paint it if you’re keeping it outside (you’ve no doubt thought that thru). You might also consider putting heavy duty casters on it so you can roll it around your shop, garage or barn. Most things in my shop have casters & I find them a great convenience.

    Thank you. I'll build my own frame, and yours is very helpful for my layout. Really nice to see a clean, squared away shop.

    I found a set of rear hay FORKS to be a lot more handy, and a whole lot stronger than a carryall built of light angle. (FORKS are meant to handle 1200lbs round bales with no give)
    Instead of bolting all that wood to a carryall, simply make the box free standing like a pallet and hook under/in it with the forks and you have the exact same thing, BUT you can set it off (without casters) anywhere, pickup up another box or pallet, or logs, hay, or whatever. With your setup, you've limited yourself to stuff that will go (by hand) IN the box.
    And with the freestanding box, I can also pick it up with the forks on my front end loader as well, because I usually have a logging winch on the back of my tractor when going to the woods. I go to the woods, set the box off with my saws/tools, then cut logs in 6-10' sections. I load them on the forks, and come out to where I'm cutting into rounds/splitting.
    I see SO many videos of people cutting into rounds where the tree fell, then adding the EXTRA handling of loading on a carryall (or whatever), then coming out to where their splitter is located, then often stacking rounds before handling them YET AGAIN to split.... Adds an extra steps of labor to an already labor intensive process.......or as Dad used to say "You know there is enough real work available you don't need to go creating the fool stuff, right ?"....ahahhahaaaaa

    Handy carry-all, nicely done. I think I’m going to have mine similar but it will be a removable wooden carrier so that I can use the metal frame portion for other things like a trailer hitch, a pallet fork, etc

    The main part that I got was the frame. Inch and a half or 2 inch angle. Chop saw and a bit of welding. To fab the whole thing may or may not be a cost saver. More research needed. Thank you for the concept.

      I thought about fabricating the frame for mine too. When material and time were accounted for, including the pins and bushings, the $149 at TSC for the frame was worth it for me. Good luck and thanks for watching.

      I watched several videos before I did mine. Lots of good ideas out there. I’ve since added pvc pipes to the front side behind the chain saw mounts for yard tools. Truly a great implement to have.

      Great! Glad I could offer some ideas. There’s so many ways to make one of those carry all’s, the best approach is to decide the main thing you will use it for and tailor it to those needs. Thanks for watching!

    pretty good overall idea. You might consider cutting to fit and turning a treated 4x6 up onedge and mounting to angle iron on bottom of carry all. this would keep the metal from resting on ground and allow better storage if you choose to set outside. will also keep from chipping concrete if you set down inside. not trying to redo a good idea/project... just offering an observation from a neutral standpoint. hope it helps

    • @LivingOurAmericanDream

      Not a bad idea. Mine is stored inside and I made a cart with wheels so I can move it around in the shop without need the tractor.

    I'm betting that handle ends up getting bent or broken.
    I like this compared to the other similar builds I've seen. I'm going to end up copying and replacing my ballast box with something similar.

      Definitely need to be careful with the chainsaws mounted like I have them. Works great to keep the loading bed clear for full loads of firewood. Good luck on your build. You’ll love it. Thanks for watching.

    what brand carry all did you buy ,how far up are the pins from the bottom of the vertical angle bar to center of pin and how far down from the top angle bar to the center of the top link pin any info would be great thanks Mark

    • @LivingOurAmericanDream
      @LivingOurAmericanDream  Před 4 lety +1

      The brand was Tarter from tractor supply I think. I will have to get the dimensions another time but it fits standard quick hitch dimensions from John Deere Imatch system. Thanks for watching Mark.

    I just built one on the exact same frame. I’m wondering if I can drill the holes lower to make it lift higher on the 3 point.

    • @LivingOurAmericanDream
      @LivingOurAmericanDream  Před 3 lety

      I think you could just make sure at full lift you’re not hitting anything on your tractor at the top of the frame. Also, if you have a quick hitch you’d have to alter the location of the top link attachment. If no quick hitch, you’re good. Thanks

    This looks great! Quick question - why did you decide to put the boards on the irons and THEN add the cross boards, vs bolting the cross boards directly to the irons (like many others have done)? I guess the way you did it might have added some strength, but it also added weight, which detracted from capacity (right?). I’m not being critical(!) - just wanting to understand your thought process, esp. since I’ll likely “borrow” much of your design for what I hope to build. So glad you posted this, and that I found it before I started my build! Thanks!

    • @LivingOurAmericanDream
      @LivingOurAmericanDream  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tim, thanks for the post. I added the boards on the angle iron first so I could simply screw on the deck boards. If I added the cross board directly to the angle iron I would have needed extra holes or I would only have been able to get one bolt per side of the deck boards. As far as weight, you’re right, but it’s only extra weight of the 2x6 at 3’ long, so only a few pounds. Appreciate your feedback and good luck with your build. I use mine all the time around the yard and in the woods. I’ve since added 2” pvc pipe to the front side to hold rakes and shovels. Very handy. Thanks again.

      @@LivingOurAmericanDream I see! Yes, everybody else that I've seen so far was only able to put one carriage bolt into each cross beam and attach it to the angle iron, and they weren't always in the center. That's why they had to have kind of a weird jumble of 2x8s, 2x10s, 2x6s, etc. What you did makes so much sense, and it's probably what I'll do!
      Again, I'm so glad you posted, and I saw it!
