  • This is my favourite campervan layout as it packs so much into a small space. The Karmann Dexter 550 is only 548cm long but the raised roof means that so much more can be added to it including the large rear kitchen, wetroom and large lounge. The base price is from EUR76,500.

    I like that one, Alan. I'd do away with the seat/bed and have more comfy seats. Or a space for dog.

    Very nice design, but not sure why it would need to cost €84.000. It's not finished particularly luxurious or anything like that. Would've loved to have seen the bed.

    bad thing that that layout is the kitchen is all the way to the rear, everything back of that axle gets bounced around including the refer..been there done that never again otherwise not bad

    How is this layout your favourite? Your favourite van of this same size is, surely, the D42 Dreamer, that you raved about before in your previous video, when you were supremely impressed, and so was I. No garage in this one, no fixed bed, no auto option (citroens all manual gearbox only, unlike ducato), and it costs a lot lot more, same 540 size. So, Alan, have you somehow dreamed the Dreamer away? I can't see how this layout is great at all, compared to the same size van D42 Dreamer, whose layout is really inspired. What say you Alan? Best wishes, another Alan, in Norfolk UK.

      @@VanlifewithAlan Hi Alan, I am in Norwich, in Norfolk, located at Hellesdon, in a bungalow behind B&Q, where I think from viewing a previous video of yours, you yourself are familiar with and possibly links to. But, anyway, Alan, back to my question as above, how does this Dexter 550 become your top favourite for this 540 size of van, when comparing it to the D42 Dreamer that you reviewed in your other video a while back? Best wishes, Alan.

    If I were to get this campervan, on shorter trips, I would leave the table out, but would still need a table, here is my question, why these campervan designers do not put a fold out table on the back of the driver's seat, just like you find in airplanes? I don't get it, it seems like a no brainer to me, yet, no one is doing it. Any thoughts on that Alan?
    Also, you do always comment on smaller drains, but I never hear you explain why you want larger drains, what is the true issue? I mean, if it drains, it should work?
    Thanks for your videos.

    • @VanlifewithAlan
      @VanlifewithAlan  Před rokem

      No, I can't agree with the tables in the backs of the seats, I think most people would want to sit in front of each other rather than behind each other! The point of the smaller drain hole is that it gets blocked far more easily and no-one, I think, has come up with a net for catching not only those things one brings into the camper such as sand etc but also the things that come off our bodies such as hairs.
