Sarah, this is so helpful. I wish my parents thought this way when I was young! Am going through all of my childhood knick knacks now - as in 20+ boxes - and trying not to burden my own children with the mental, physical, emotional clutter...!
My mom did that as well and sent everything home with me when I was pregnant with my first child. It totally overwhelmed me! For my own children we have one box/ child and they get to decide for themselves what to keep as long as it fits in the box.

I have things like my grandmother’s doll, and Lots of things from my family and antiques that I don’t like the thought of losing. I’m hoping they will continue to stay in the family. Even though some people call them dust collectors etc ! I would hate to not have them. Now I’m doing the decluttering, I’m trying to think of a practical but attractive way to store them.
My mom kept 4 giant totes of my school stuff. It took me a full weekend to go through it all and in the end I kept 1 small folder (don't tell mom). It was a good lesson not to overwhelm my kids with keeping too much.

You have such great ideas I wish I could have heard how you deal with sentimental items. I have at home 30 scrapbooks. Believe me they are hard to move. I have not started my grand daughter ' book and feel guilty abt it. Good to see you looking good

With their clothes when they were little, with the toys when they were little, etc. I couldn’t find any video about it on CZcams and now you have told us! I keep a lot of stuff of my children. Old toys of the time when they were smaller , art works and other things from school, cinema tickets, etc. When I talk to other mothers, they say that they threw everything away. That’s so hard for me, but on the other hand I want my attic to be with only a few boxes. Question: did you keep any toys of your children when they were a baby and stuffed animals? Did you keep your own babyclothes and toys and craftwork from the time that you were little? My mother kept it for me in nice binders but I don’t know what to do with it because I want to minimalize my attic. My mother passed away last january and so I am extra sad when I see old stuff of me when I was little. I hope you can answer these questions. Thank you very much and have a nice day!
