For young people, this song kind of goes over their head. You get what he's saying, but it doesn't really hit home until you're older. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just the way it is.
At the age of 60 now, this song means so much more to me than it did when I first heard it. I remember my younger years when I could run for miles without stopping, work all day and then go out at night cruising in my "68 Camaro (which is long gone now), and go swimming in the summer for hours without tiring. The strength of my youth has dwindled, and I have to pace myself now to maintain my integrity. The years slip by, and looking back it seems shorter than when I looked ahead back then.
This song makes me feel nostalgic. I am 60 now and recall when I was 18. I had entered the Marines and was ten feet tall and bullet proof in my mind. I'm on the downside of the mountain and a disabled veteran, but once I was like a rock.
Navy here, this song came out the year i got out of the Navy aftger doing 10 yrs. I was 28 and still felt like a rock, at 66 not so much but every year this song means more to me. Semper Fi, brother.
In 1990, an advertisement executive named Donald Gould, who was contracted to plug General Motors trucks, came across the titular Bob Seger song everyone is now familiar with, and he couldn't get it out of his head. The phrase "Like a Rock" was exactly the kind of picture GM wanted to paint with this particular line of trucks. Seger, however, was initially hesitant to do advertisements for Chevy and rejected the offer. After speaking to a plant worker for GM, Seger had a change of heart as he was reminded of his own time working for the car company. He relented and "Like a Rock" became the official anthem of Chevy trucks from 1991 to 2014.
I'm a problem live the host the hollow album was from a road I have one man traveling man by bob who go right here They finished traveling man go right into beautiful loser you get a combos are 41 combo without going through the job though
Thanks for this one Angela. This is probably my favorite Bob Seger song. As I’ve gotten older (53) it just seems to hit differently than when I first heard it way back then.
Just a great song. It came out when I was around 10 years old and even then, I knew how good a song it was! It might sound familiar to you because it was used in a bunch of commercials for Chevy trucks (I think it was Chevy, at least). Great reaction, Angela! :)
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band is and was one of my 10 favorite groups............for me, anyway, most of their stuff falls into the defition of a rock band --- one of my very favorite tracks from them is HER STRUT !
If you like the road feel of this one, you should listen to Roll Me Away, if you haven't already. For years, Bob sang it as his opening song at his concerts.
Nobody like Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band...From my young days in the early 70`s to right now, they have always been outstanding...To me they have never made a bad song.
The best way to listen to the anthem song 'Like a Rock' by Mr Bob Seger is from a good quality pair of 'cans ' earphones rather than the ear 'buds .' The performance of the tune from every musician playing still gives me chills some 38 years later ...quite magnificent !
Thank you for this reaction. This song means so much to me and especially right now. As I'm writing and listening to this, I am 50 hours away from the 1 year loss of my father. This was one of his favorite songs from Bob Seger. A few years ago, I took him to see Bob Seger in concert. It was the artist he always wanted to see and was never able to, and it was the last concert he ever got to attend before his health kept him from doing anything much at all. I remember driving home and he told me that during this song, no matter how many times he had heard it before, during that concert when the last solo for the steel guitar, it hit him so hard that he actually started to tear up. Was one of the best shows I ever saw and it made it that much better that I was able to take my father and have it be the one show he really wanted to see. It is nice to remember that and so great that you put out this reaction this week, of all weeks. He passed shortly before midnight on Nov. 1st, 2022... it feels so surreal to think it has been nearly a year. Thank you for helping to keep the music flowing and the good memories alive. As Bob said in one of his other great songs... Rock and Roll Never Forgets!!!
When I say this pretty girl Angela here question mark yeah, right, right?Yeah, I think it's come to Papa CO.MATO come to P.APA come CO.MA to PAP.A by bob sager
I liked this song when it first came out but was too young and naive to get the deepness of Bob's lyrics. Now at fifty it hits me right between the eyes. Where have all these years gone? How I miss the days when I was strong, unencumbered by the burdens/responsibilities of adult life, and still believed in my dreams.
"Like A Rock" was used in a Chevy truck commercial for years. Also perfect when you are an old man reminiscing. Bob and his band always paint a vivid picture as they tell the tale.
Your pic looks very much like my malamute, Sasha, I had from '96 - '06. Same racoon mask, but slightly darker tips. I'm jealous! ... and sympathize w/ your vacuum, lol
Really enjoyed this one, Bob Seager has a great and expressive voice and this built up really well with cool guitar and piano . As you say its like he is relating to something previous. Great song--Colin Ward
Almost all his songs are road trip traveling music. Whether on a bus or in a car or truck. Just but the headphones on and listen to an entire album and watch the miles and the road just slip away
Your familiarity to this song is likely due to some Chevy pickup commercials using the chorus. I love Bob S. He's been among my favorite artists for years (decades, actually). Love your reactions Angela!
Bob has a few hit songs, and this one isn't doesn't have that magic the others do! Night 🌉 Moves might be my favorite by him! In my opinion, he's in that category of artists that are gritty and down to 🌎🌍 Earth like John Mellencamp & Bruce Springsteen! Maybe even Jackson Browne! That's my take, see ya!
has any song sold more Trucks (was it GM?) than this one? Bob Seger and band are from Ann Arbor Michigan...were local legends when I went to school there.
Just a guy in the world here, going indiscriminately about his business. My 'nickname' at work is 'old man Mike'... I think it's a diss because of my work ethic. Who knew I once ran a 4:26 mile while pressing 250lb at 130lb (average)... I sit here in the dark bathed in the light of my laptop and recall... when I was 19 I was running a 20 pound pneumatic chisel up and down the underside of a fuel station M frame on board a haze gray AOE auxiliary in a sleeveless pair of coveralls and an white onix cross about my open tanned collar. Every once in a while I'd a glance at the horizon across the glass surface of the Indian Ocean with clear Hazel eyes, breathing in the salt air, standing tall on the floor of the scaffolding, swaying gently with my sea legs solid beneath me. Proud, honored to serve you and honorable, like a rock, I was something to see folks. Something to see... God Bless You.
You heard it on a commercial, as he said, he made more money on that, than one of his early albums, believe it is for a Chevy Truck, maybe someone can chime in!!
Sorry, but a boring Seger. How about Sunspot Baby. Or how about his 1st hit. Ramblin Gamblin Man. You can see Bob before the beard. I'll give you that you get the usual stellar vocals here.
@@LillyMarz777Night Moves, Main Street & Turn the Page, were all more interesting recollections (of an again rocker) People pick the same songs over & over. "Like A Rock" was used by Chevy for many Years for their Pickup Commercials so you probably heard it there Angela.

Amen brother...I've lived every line.
Yep! Hearing this song decades ago.. I didn't fully grasp that line. But NOW.. IT HURTS
One of the greatest sorrows in life is an old man remembering what it was like to be young

I felt EVERY WORD YOU SAID!!!
The '68 Camaro. Did yours have the wide stripe wrapped around the nose?
One of the top 3 voices in rock n roll history
20 years where did they go? That's a deep lyric, damn you Bob Seger!
Bro, more like 45 years ago I was 18... where did they go.
@retiredfirelt586 it's unreal, but hey what can we do about it? Just got to make the best out of the situation
I love the music! Keep it up young lady! ROCK ON!
Turning 40 this year...."20 years now.....where'd they go......20 years.....i don't know...."....lyrics that hit home
Wait until you turn 60 and its twice as dramatic..lol..
Great song by him. If you think it’s boring you don’t understand the lyrics. Great tale of youth and and how fast it goes.

A beautiful song about getting old ..
That's one of my favorites right there. But I need bob's I guess song's gonna be good all right?
Bob was the man on the road Hank a day to song. Probably I think it sounded better on the road than it does in the studio for bob
I'm a problem live the host the hollow album was from a road I have one man traveling man by bob who go right here They finished traveling man go right into beautiful loser you get a combos are 41 combo without going through the job though

This song is so real. Makes me want drive my 85 C20.
I remember feeling like that when that song first came out now I'm a broken old man
I feel you Bro but don't give up... God loves you.
If you're still digging Bob you can't be that broken. Hang in there.
Thanks for this one Angela. This is probably my favorite Bob Seger song. As I’ve gotten older (53) it just seems to hit differently than when I first heard it way back then.

You heard in the 90s Chevy truck commercial
Lots of us old dudes tearing up a bit😢🤘❤️are they not two of the best guitar solos😊
One of my favorites of his. Reminds me of a Chevy commercial though.
It's like he is a folk singer in a way.
When I say this pretty girl Angela here question mark yeah, right, right?Yeah, I think it's come to Papa CO.MATO come to P.APA come CO.MA to PAP.A by bob sager

You have heard it on a automobile commercial for sure for a pickup truck 🥰

Seger has an extensive catalog, and there is not a dud in the book. 😊
Welcome to Michigan, my home. Bob from Ann Arbor just outside of Detroit, Chevy commercial 😁
Like a rock was used for a Chevy truck commercial. Bob is from Detroit and he let them use it to help the American car industry.

My favorite song by Seger! Sold a lot of Chevy trucks with that song!! 😅
Chevrolet used this song for commercials for over a decade. It sticks in the mind.
Awesome reaction.
It’s definitely one of his classics. He’s a master song writer.
You might know this from old Chevy commercials haha. They used it for a looooong time.

It's been a while, and you are still BEAUTIFUL!!!
I think you would like against the wind by Bob's bob. Seger does the song against the wind
You heard that part like a rock on a Chevrolet commercial.
You want a road trip song by Bob Seger… try Hollywood Nights. Just do not get caught speeding down the highway
Angela, Great choice as usual.
Truck Commercial
Always said he'd be our favorite rock star to hang around a bar a get drunk with

Angela.... You will relate to this song when you are 40. Right now, it's a mystery...
It's. not so sad......it's the reality of a man aging. But he ages like fine wine.....and like a rock.
I dont about anybody else but this brought me to floods of tears mr segar what a powerful voice you had with a powerful message thank you thank you.

Like you Angela, they are perfect road trip songs
Chevy used this song for their P/U truck commercials for about 15 years.
Chevy Trucks! Like a Rock. That IS where you heard it.
The genre they call it southern rock which is a combination of country and Rock
Angela, the T shirt you are wearing goes with the song,,,,,,nice one.
I was 19 when this came out; stationed in West Germany. Even related to its reflection then.
Life moves along with good and bad, easy and tough but all build character and morals and each in their own way make us who we are!
has any song sold more Trucks (was it GM?) than this one?
Bob Seger and band are from Ann Arbor Michigan...were local legends when I went to school there.
You heard it from Chevrolet truck commercials!
The song was sampled for Chevy Truck ads ....
Seen bob seger lol at least 5 times lol love him
❤
Love this song its so true when your young your full of power
You may have heard that part you recognize in a Chevy Truck commercial it was used for years by them in their commercials.
I read the comments and I wonder what truck commercial used this song....🤔🤔🤔🤨
Well I only made it through the comments so thank you for this I won't waste your time watching this you're bored

This is a Great Song!
Like a Rock That phrase has been used in a whole lot of adverts...

The song was used in a Chevy truck commercial & probably others so parts may sound familiar.

I hope you don't mind but, you're so beautiful. You're so amazing to look at. Your smile is something else 😉
I'm kind of bad to say, my baby doll.Hi , you know what it do you know I hit the large button
Chevy trucks to be precise.
1986...
Unless you're over 40 you'll never "really" understand his lyrics on this one. Bob is one of the best songwriters of all time.
was it a car commercial?
Chevy truck
Shevy truck.
Strange. I suddenly have the urge to go out and buy a pickup truck.
Live or Video
I would like to hear marmalade 1969 version .
5
It doesn't get much better then this song , for me anyways!
Chevy Trucks
Heeeeey, girlfriend. You need a better camera. To be honest, the video quality is subpar at best.

good suggestions.
