Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui DOMINATED the first 3 games of the 2004 ALCS for the Yankees

- Matsui had the ALCS MVP Award locked up. Sheffield and Matsui definitely have a greater legacy amongst the fanbase if the Yanks didn't choke this series away #mlb #playoffs #redsox #yankees #baseball
Matsui was criminally underrated. And that trio of Sheffield, A-Rod, and Matsui was pure fucking dynamite. I miss these days.
Baseball was just better back then. So many different TYPES of players. Nowadays it’s just 9 guys who try to do the same thing at different skill levels.
The Yankees losing this was pure divine intervention lol... Cuz there is literally no other explanation
there absolutely is an explanation, our pitching was fried. Brown and Vazquez in particular completely fell apart. to this day i don't know why Torre didn't go to El Duque in Game 7, he was the only one who could have potentially given them a chance. the Yankees lost the 2004 ALCS when they didn't re-sign Andy Pettitte
That Yankee offense had no excuse not to score 8 per game
They were unconscious that series
And then Sheff went 1-19 in the last 4 games smh
It's like the Yankees spent their entire momentum on three games and didn't have much of an answer for the rest of the series.
Can anyone tell me the numbers of Sheffield Game 1-3 and Matsui Game 1-3? I always thought Sheffield would've been '04 ALCS MVP if the Yankees won in 4
Sheffield hit .694 had an OPS of 1.887 with 1 HR 3 2B and 5 RBIs
Matsui hit .600 had an OPS of 1.867 with 2 HR 4 2B and 10 RBIs
Was A-Rod up there as well? I know he probably didn't have those numbers, but he did hit over .400 and was pretty clutch in the ALDS against Minnesota, and I know he had a pretty solid Games 1-4 here. Again, not on Sheffield or Matsui's level, but I know he had a bunch of hits and a couple of homers, it's insane how hard this lineup fell-off in the final 3 games.
@@michaeltrinidad5825 They got knocked down and Yankees never even pushed Ramirez or Ortiz off plate THATS WHY YANKS LOST
@@MrGMilletManny did nothing in this series. He had 0 rbis
Uffff bestttt
biggest choke ever in any professional sports
18-1
@@jonsnow5513 3-0 still takes the cake. 18-1 but you only have one game.
Nah ur wrong. The biggest was the my giants vs the pats. Hockey 3-0 leads the teams come back. Red Sox were due
It was just a matter of time. Up until gane 4, that yankee team was fun to watch. Matsui is my favorite yankee and he was crushing in this era
Yankees should’ve won in ‘03 ‘04
Yankees legally won that series. Watch the 9th inning very closing again! CLEAR AS DAY series ending strike 3 CALLED A BALL!
Where in that 9th inning was this?
@@Yoy28 There was 2 outs and a runner on. A 2-2 pitch CLEAR AS DAY hits the zone but called a ball.
@@TheKingSource this is in Game 4 we're talking about?
@@Yoy28 Yes. I think to Ortiz but could be the hitter before him.
@@TheKingSource I think I found the pitch you're talking about. Even if it was called strike 3 the game was still tied at that point and Mo ended up getting Ortiz to pop out.
Facts yankees pitching fail especially at the end
and how did that one end for the Yankees?? 😎
The mazis domknated the fitst 3 years of world war 2 😂
Hahahaha, and then were part of the greatest collapse in MLB postseason history.
The Yankees lost this series…. The red sucks did not win it
Joe Buck is awful. He sounds so disappointed having to announce anything positive the Yankees did. Twenty years later and it’s the same biased bullshit
Boston got so lucky riveria blew this series
Rivera blew a save in Game 4, I wouldn't say he blew the series (I don't count the blown save in Game 5 because he inherited runners at the corners and nobody out). The main reason was the lineup going ice cold and not getting the job done with RISP
@@Yoy28 Possibly just a bit distracted too by the recent tragedy earlier that week when he lost cousins in a pool accident.
@@johnsnyder2340 Very good point. I remember reading somewhere that Red Sox fans were heckling him about it while he was warming up in the bullpen during Games 4 and 5. Definitely could've been a contributing factor
@@Yoy28 he blew 2001 tho
@@Yoy28Joe fucked it up too
Joe torre told the team, Rivera isn’t pitching in game 4, what happened he ended up pitching and blew it up because he knew he wasn’t pitching but he ended up coming into the game
It wasnt a choke yankees was over confident and layed back and boston took advantage
