  • In this video I show you how to build a quick and easy DIY light weight stand for your Kings 120w Folding Solar Panels by the 4wd Supacentre. The kings folding solar pannel by 4wd Supacentre are of a pretty decent quality for the price, but this little mod will make them even better while you are camping.

Awesome instructional video. Thank you. I have been trying to work out the best way to build a stand for my 400w solar blanket. I came across your video when searching the web for "Solar Blanket support legs" and your video popped up. After watching it I thought "That's exactly what I need! Why didn't I think of that earlier!!" I am now off to Bunnings to buy the parts, thanks to you actually showing the labels for the parts in the video. Something a lot of instructional video's tend to forget.

Great idea and great instructional video. Just returned from Bunnings where I was thinking of using there 25.4 mm alum tube and plastic push in fittings. My design was going to cost me more than the 200-watt blanket. Back to Bunnings & into the shed.. Many thanks..

Great idea and an excellent video. Ive dobe something similar with 20mm pvc tubes and connectors but it does break apart into a larger "tube" shape.A friend of mine uses a 1 metre folding aluminium step ladder and a cutoff tent pole to act as the leg to angle up the folded ladder.

I find mine a very useful supplement to my fixed panel, especially early morning and later afternoon, hanging off the side or rear door. Like your stand...will make one for the next trip.

Noice! I managed something similar with lengths of flexi storage shelf support brackets and bolts and wing nuts. All folds flat and cost less than $10

I found (at least in Winter) Angle Optimisation does bugger all.

Great ideas in here, but I will say you could get the materials for substantial less the Bunnings if you go to a proper aluminium, plumbing, bolt supplier ect, as Bunnings is hectic expensive for these items.

Yeah but I live in a regional town so not a lot of options.

What size blanket would this fit from what can tell is it 1250x 730? If not I’ll modify to suit my 200 w solar blanket.

Yeah it was a smaller blanket this one, but could very easily be adapted to make a bigger one.

I have two 200w blankets and with a Victron ppt still only get 140w max out of them flat on ground in perfect sun and temps. might have to try the stand. can you actually show us the difference in output on camera with your controller.

How much do you think the parts cost in total? Not including any tools

    • @JebbreysJibberish

I think there was a list in my webpage in the link in the description. If prices aren’t there the parts are and you can just use Bunnings online to add it up. But less than $100 easily

Hi patty, great question. If you checkout my blog on the stand here: jebbreysjibberish.com/index.php/builds/74-diykingssolarstand it has some further information about parts and dimensions at the bottom of the article. To work out where the holes go you'll have to watch the video or wing it as I don't have specifics on those, they are kind of done ad-hoc.
