Leon's mom doesn't think she's doing anything wrong. Therefore she isn't doing anything wrong. Actually, she's giving Leon only healthy food. But the fact that she's giving it in huge quantities, continuously, is not the reason her 5 year old is morbidly obese. Can't be, it's all healthy! She loves him to death. Literally!

What video are you watching. She is giving this child too much food. First, he ate cake and grapes, After that, he ate cereal with fruit. Next, he ate a plate of food that could feed a grown man. Actually, there is a genetic disorder called Prader-Willie syndrome that can do just that.

Sadly, she could be totally aware she's harming him - she gets a lot of attention for having a "sick" child. I think she gets off on being the poor victim of this child with health problems. This reminds me a little bit about my own diet and weight. When I was a kid. My mother fed me a lot of food. Big portions and also a little too often snacks and such. It was okay for me until second grade but I didn’t know better I was only a kid. I saw all my other classmates and how much more smaller they were than me. And I started questioning my mother why I was so much bigger than my friends, and she said it was “ my genetics”.. but it clearly wasn’t. My weight led to insecurity, self hate and people took advantage of it. Especially the bullies. Eventually this led to bulimia and depression. Which still hunts my body.. Please! Feed your kids proper food, in regulated portions!! This can make the future of your child much brighter in many ways!!
I share an almost exact same story. The self destruction that can result from desperately trying to lose weight is terribly sad. Don't burden your child for life by overfeeding.

Blood tests carried out to determine if Leon, the little boy who was the same weight as the average 17-year-old, had an underlying genetic cause have thus far came back negative. Some test results are outstanding. His doctor said Leon, now six, is gradually losing weight.
There are bunch of people in the comment section (mainly kids) who are saying that they're connected with him via Facebook and that he's kept a lot of the weight off, but that he's still overweight.

Catherine H portion control is important, but I don't think that this is the problem. Normally you can eat tons of vegetables and healthy food without gaining weight.

The mother’s an enabler, constantly asking him if he wanted to sit in the wheelchair when he was walking perfectly fine. My family is like this, forcing food on me and asking me to rest even when I'm not tired. Whenever I go on a diet to try and loose the weight, they're asking me to go out to eat and won't leave me alone about eating junk food. I was over one hundred pounds overweight at 12. I'm taking charge now and I've already lost ten pounds in a couple of weeks and I don't play on stopping now! My goal is to have lost thirty pouds by next month! If anybody else is struggling with being overweight, don't give up

This kid- and so many more like him- is NOT going to be healthy until he gets away from his mom. It's clear that she's coddling him, and feeding him way too much food. He cries because he's learned that she can't stand it and will stuff his mouth to stop it. It's all a sign that she has a lot of anger and emotional troubles she has not dealt with. She needs HELP!! I'm not 100% sure about this, but I just recently came over an article from 2014 mentioning the case of cardiac arrest of a 10 year old in Newcastle, who later subsequently died. Sadly fits the description of Leon, but I may still be wrong here. Horrible parents deserve to be put in jail for life.

iirc there was an episode of Jo Frost's show "Extreme Parenting", and it dealt with food issues with kids. I think Frost said something about how it's a common problem, where parents don't realize that they're giving inappropriate portion sizes to their kids, and then they're either A) mad when the kid obeys their natural sense of satiety and won't eat anymore, or B) surprised when they ignore that feeling of fullness and end up gaining weight.

This woman is making to many excuses. Her child needs to be active, let him go play with his friends outside.
And even if he has no friends. I have no friends, and my brother and sister never want to go outside, so I exercise by myself. So there is no excuse for him not having exercise. I used to use my lack of people to be with as an excuse but I soon quit the bullshitting.
I hope this kid is in better shape now. This Mother is helping create the situation that he's in. She just had nothing but attitude when challenged about how she fed him. When a child is that overweight you want to do everything possible to eliminate that it is YOU that caused it.

I have asthma and I can do more physical activity than this kid without needing my inhaler. But maybe I'm not the best example of what people with breathing difficulties can do because I tend to push myself and I have passed out before so take my comment with a grain of salt. Lol

I know someone who has been obese forever because her parents started her bad habits. As a 4 year old they were feeding her 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, fruit, and bacon for a weekend breakfast. I don't even think I could finish that now and I'm almost 25.

She brings a wheelchair and keeps encouraging him to sit down. She states that she won't allow him to continue if he's winded. As a between-meals snack she gives him a banana, a slice of cake, 4 wheetabix with another banana, strawberries, and milk. That's the calories for an entire meal right there and that's JUST a snack. I don't care how healthy something is, it's still calories. Also, how the expletive is he going to learn when his body is hungry if she's constantly pushing food on him like a crack dealer pushes crack? At least wait until he asks for food...just doing that alone would help. I also haven't seen him drink any water. Then you feed him dinner and he's the only one at the table. Families should eat together if possible. His serving size for starches is also way off. The peas are actually reasonably calorific & the mash certainly is...especially if she's added milk or fat to it. There should always be a cup of water available as thirst can be mistaken by the body as hunger ...so you eat and then you still feel the same so you eat some more. The beverage with the meal is probably fruit juice when it should be water. SHE is a major part of the problem. What I don't understand is why the doctor isn't telling her to do a food/calorie diary for him so that she can see just how many calories she's feeding him.
Assuming the cake is 100 calories (probably more) , his in between meal snacks come up to 630 calories. Im a 19 year old and i eat 1200-1500 a day. A five year old should be eating maxxx maxxx 900 cals (probably less but i dint know for sure). So yea those healthy snacks are still way too much. If youre snacking on nearly 700 cals , you’re inevitably gonna overeat
Lol and i forgot to add milk which is 103 cals per cup ( around how much youd put in cereal, maybe even less!). So yea this kid is eating 800 cals in snacks when thats what he should be eating a day!!
A meal should be no more than 600 for me and im a grown ass person. My meals are usually 500 cals and im very much satisfied

Why didn't she let him walk all the way home? He seemed totally fine, he obviously wanted to run and play. Instead of doing a fucking puzzle take him to the park or a Chuck E Cheese and let him have fun. She's unbelievable. She should track his calories, not overfeed him healthy food.

Is it possible she is just overprotecting and loving her son in a fear of loosing his love and attention? Just seems like mum needs some really good advice and example set for her from other mums, who have been in similar situation. At this point it feels she is afraid to let him go and be a child....
Helluminati I think most of these fat-o-genic parents have an eating disorder themselves. Those fat cells he is developing will be with him the rest of his life, their job being to stay filled with fat. He will never regain a normal metabolism.

Honestly they could be feeding him the healthiest food in the world, but if the portion sizes are too big and he's not getting enough exercise it simply won't matter. Her best bet would be slowly reducing the portion sizes and transitioning him from sugary snack foods to things like fruits (in lieu of stuff like cake, anyways, clearly he is eating some fruit here), if she wants him to slim down. If he slowly gets accustomed to less food and less sugar over time, whilst slowly increasing his activity, the pounds would probably start to peel off.
He ate a chocolate cake, strawberries a banana. A full dinner enough for 4 five year olds. All in an hour. With a walk home in a wheelchair. She’s killing him. She has that disorder, where parents kill their kids for attention.
This was me! 98 lbs at 5. It was from my narcissistic parents, their manipulation and my fathers terrifying presence. They also fed me fast food often and junk on purpose, to shut me up from crying because of the abuse. Being shouted at, cussed at, called names by your own parents will make a child run to food for comfort. They would terrorize my emotions inside the home but act like the loving family outside. I had no one to come to my rescue. Parents constantly arguing at each other and being told (mr brown is gonna come get you if you keep crying). A fake person to scare me. I was all alone emotionally. The older i got the more my father would whip the mess out me with hands, belts for anything i did wrong or that pissed him off! Food became my life. At my highest i was 340lb at 5’8 height! It has taken 35 years to realize how CPTSD caused my obesity in adulthood!
