Onam Celebrations | Amrita University

#onam Festival falls during the Malayalam month of #Chingam (August - September). It is the biggest festival celebrated with joy and enthusiasm by people of all communities in Kerala, with four days of State holiday. Onam is reminiscent of Kerala’s agrarian past and is considered to be a harvest festival and includes a spectrum of cultural events. The harmonious, cheerful, and exuberant festival is marked with flower mats (#Pookkalam), grand feasts (#Onasadya), boat races (#vallamkali ), #thiruvathirakkali (a popular dance form), and leopard dance (#pulikkali ).
As Amma says, “The festival of Onam and its celebrations give us the message that prosperity, peace, and affluence result when ancient spiritual traditions and the modern world go hand-in-hand.”
