- This shows what can happen if the roofers are not trained in the flat roof material lay are laying. The roofing market is now being flooded with good flat roof materials however if the roofer laying your new flat roof is not trained correctly the roof will not last.
These monkeys probably sleep quite well of a night, if that customer didn't have access to the roof they wouldn't have known any difference until there was a major issue developing. Not got a clue these quick fix have your money shafters. Well done for educating some of us Steve 👏👏👏 thank you.
i think any descent trades person such as a carpenter electrician or plumber can lay a GOOD flat roof with modern materials such as EPDM , they will be the ones doing research before attempting , my guess is a few laborers who have jumped themselves up after a couple of weeks on a job decided roofing was now their trade
Yes this is a big part of the problem
U till they need to do tunnel outlets and even more tricky stuff. I was teaching firestone corses and don't even agree with this one piece corner crap. Alway over 21 years used 2 bits with even cover each way so as thick as main sheet. Never had a leak and been fitting nearly every day for over 21 years. And 20% over grp.
Interesting you go over GRP I have never tried that although thought of it several times Last week I spoke to a colleague to see how he overlays GRP and he explained that he only used fleacback when going over. As we know this is really expensive. That's your take on this?
That stuffs pretty easy, The info from the manufacturer covers everything pretty good. The problems on this appear to be because they were cutting corners to pocket more money
Wow the contractor that did this roof was clueless!! I've been doing Carlisle Epdm roofs for 17 years now and this is a dandy!! People need to put some pride in their work.
Loks like the first and the biggest problem is that the roof itself needed to be finished before applying EPDM membrane, look on 1:10 those corners, you can't glue membrane to something that is loose, uneven and sandy.
It only leaks when it rains though.. It's pretty good
Its to show what you get if you don't use a roofer that trained in the roofing materials he is using. I would like to know your appointing on GRP flat roofing. In the past 5 weeks Ive seen some that are so badly laid you can still see the raw fibreglass strands sticking out. GRP flat roofing is another roofing system that needs good well trained and experienced installers. I note that you can buy it of the shelf now in Celco.
There was some thermal bridging going on from not installing a perimeter strip at the walls. not even termination bar, it appears they used cover tape for the corners. Looks like some of the workmanship in Philadelphia Pa
I'm a roofing contractor .40% of my work is taking GRP and rubber roofs off 4 years maximum life for both .even if installation was of good quality .use 3 layer system felt .it will last you 30 years
what was the water damage like inside the property?
you mentioned training, any suggestions im trying to broaden my skill base .cheers
Shame .I'm about to fit mine . It's been resting on the roof for 24hrs .I think I must of measured up wrong as I only have 2 inches overlap.so I cant fit a baton under the drip edge. I did measure twice though.
Paulkingroofing rush job init no love in 2024
I just don't know what they are doing
See that's the trouble these type of so called roofers have been on a day course a lot of flat roof systems offer this and this is the outcome
Yes I have been on many corses and after 1 day everybody is passed and left to get on with it
thanks sir u is a great sir i am working EPDM from k s a sir give me same callas sir my wish i come to london
Is this made from recycled material?
Yes! Cardboard.
No rubber is a natural product and Firestone’s EPDM is environmentally friendly
@@our_vee_dubvwtransporter8288epdm is not a natural product, butyl would be but epdm is ethylene propylene diene monomer
People with no training would leave a better job than that 😲 that is horrendous... who ever installed that roof should be ashamed of themselves.
Wow
with the greatest of respect steve,i fail to see the point of this video the people who fitted this are clearly not trained roofers or even roofers so nothing is achieved with this video , there are flat roofs like this everywhere and the good roofers will eventualy be employed to replace.
lmao what the hell were they trying to do?
I can't believe how some roofers can be so irresponsible...
steven my house has a flat roof with poorly laid rubber roof.... after i replace the whole roof with osb plywood what is my next step , or what roofing material do u reccomend ??? i plan on having this roof durable since it will also be a porch with chairs ect
Epdm is better than all of it just has to be laid correctly

I have a small flat roof on the end of my kitchen where it has previously been extended roughly about 2.5m x 1.5m. Somebody has given me part of a roll of this stuff could I use contact adhesive for all of it and not just the edges??
Yes but you have to use patching tapes or splicing tapes for finishing the edges
Steve Roofer thanks very much for the quick response mate want to try and get it down tomorrow while the weather is ok. Can only see the proper adhesive online!👍
Contact adhesive is also a proper adhesive when using EPDM its just A) more expensive over large areas and B) difficult to use on large areas
Steve Roofer makes sense!! Turns out there wasn't enough on the roll so went with some paint on liquid rubber stuff. Hopefully will do the job for a while. Thanks again for your help!
This is the whole problem, people being encouraged to DIY by so called experts!
Wow. Whoever installed that roof is a joke. Remimds me of the guy i inspected after that used to torch his rubber together on the roof...
EPDM is relying on mastic
It is shite.
Wow, shocking job. There really is no excuse for this sort of sloppy work anymore, other than laziness. There is too much guidance and training available, even for free on CZcams!
I've seen worse believe it or not.
Disgusting...
foreign workers.
wow that is bad, no common sense on that installation.
