    I know it’s now the Fab Five, but I’ll never understand how Bernie was left out of the “core four.” For their winning run in the late 90s, he was far more instrumental to the team than Posada (and I LOVE Posada). Such an underrated player, and deserves far more praise

    As a lifelong Yankee fan I'm fortunate enough to call the Core Four, Fab Five to include Bernie and the other greats from the mid-late 90's aka the Torre years the era of baseball I grew up on.

    When Bernie came out, you could tell he felt uncomfortable when while sitting next to Jackson the crowd started yelling BERNIE BERNIE BERNIE. That was weird because usually Jackson was the man that received those cheers when everybody would yell REGGIE REGGIE REGGIE !! That's exactly what Bernie was thinking at that moment. But, Reggie didn't mind Bernie getting those cheers because Bernie is Puerto Rican and Reggie is half Puerto Rican. So, Reggie felt proud of Bernie at that moment at 7:19.

    I hate this "core four" shit. It leaves out Bernie, O'Neill, Cone and Tino who were all part of every championship in the dynasty years 1996-2001.

  • @znhait
    @znhait Před 7 lety +4

    I know labeling groups of players by certain name is mostly a marketing scheme, but I think this one is very misleading. Although Bernie is a bit older than the "core four," he was as instrumental as anyone in the Yankees winning four out of five World Series between '96 and '01. During those years, he was probably the Yankees' best outfield player. I like Posada, but in terms of ability, he's the one who doesn't belong.

    • @hr1meg
      @hr1meg Před 7 lety +3

      Steve Cantave Its all marketing B.S. From 1991 to 2003 no one mentioned anything about core four. There were five guys playing together. Petite leaves to Houston and doesn't come back until 2007, and now suddenly there is all this talk about core four?
      In 2004 the four lifetime Yankees were Bernie, Mariano, Derek, and Jorge. After that they start retiring. Why does it become four when Andy rejoins in 2007? There was already four when he left.
      If anything lets call it three since Andy, Mariano, and Derek all arrived in 1995. Or we can go even further, Mariano and Derek came in 1995 and played until 2013 together on the same club.
      Andy is the odd man out since he is the only one to have left the Yankees, and played 4 season for the Astros. I have no problems with Posada being the odd man out since he arrived to a team that already had a World Series title without him. [ Bernie 1991-2006, Mariano 1995-2013, Andy 1995-2003 / 2007-2010, Derek 1995-2013, Jorge 1997-2011]

    I LOVE Jeter but he NEVER should have said that being a MAJOR LEAGUE BALLPLAYER was a GRIND on ESPN during the game ! That was the ONLY time he's ever opened his mouth and made himself LOOK LIKE A HORSE'S ASS !! It was a pretentious AND arrogant statement considering ALL that being a big league ballplayer HAS GIVEN HIM !! Try doing MY JOB for 20 years Derek and THEN you might HAVE A CLUE as to the meaning of the word " GRIND " !!

    • @thelawofdivineoneness458
      @thelawofdivineoneness458 Před 7 lety +3

      This is not about you or whatever job you do. He was speaking from his perspective and you have to respect that. Jeter very rarely took any days off, he always hustled (unlike many other players) and he often played with injuries. A MLB season is 162 games and that is a GRIND. I think you are just mad that those guys get paid millions and you don't. Hey man, that's the breaks.

    • @thebambino4728
      @thebambino4728 Před 7 lety

      You DO have good points but him making millions has NOTHING to do with it ! He just should have been SMARTER and THOUGHT ABOUT how what he said would sound like TO ALL OF US FANS who have to get up everyday and really GRIND out a living ! Baseball is a FUCKING GAME - it's not THE REAL WORLD at all . Like I said , I'm one of his BIGGEST fans - the guy has ALWAYS been the meaning of the word "CLASS" but THIS TIME HE DROPPED THE BALL A BIT !

    • @fordanaeuxx
      @fordanaeuxx Před 7 lety

      The Bambino to get to that level is a grind. To be a superstar on that level is a grind. He worked his ass off to be good at what he's good at. Don't what he should've done or what he should've said. His work ethic is tops. Baseball may have been a game to you but it was his career. Try to play baseball and grind it out to his level, maybe you'll think twice before saying his road to the majors wasn't a grind.

    • @thelawofdivineoneness458
      @thelawofdivineoneness458 Před 7 lety +2

      Derek Jeter is one of the smartest and classiest guys to ever play the game. He always said the right thing. Just because you didn't like what he said, that doesn't make him a horse's ass. It is the REAL WORLD...it is just not our world. Baseball is a game and they get paid millions to play it...BUT IT IS A GRIND. Why do you think they call the summer months of baseball...THE DOG DAYS? Because by the time they get to long hot days in July and August they are worn out. They often have aches and pains but they play thru it. There is no other sport like baseball. It is 162 games which makes it a MARATHON not a sprint. That is what he meant by it being a GRIND. And if him saying that is the worst complaint you have about the guy...then you have no complaints.

    • @thebambino4728
      @thebambino4728 Před 7 lety
