He'd gotten it for me because I was already talking about the game since I was watching a Let's Play of it, and we have memories of playing a friend's copy back when it was new; even as kids we were underwhelmed. Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't the first game I'd been gifted knowing it's bad, as my mom had gotten me Superman 64 a year or so prior, though I'd actually asked for that one and knew it'd be easy to find for dirt cheap (my copy was $9).

Honestly, the sad thing about the whole "X retires" plot is that it COULD have worked. The ending to Zero 1 gave X the perfect reason to quit - he realized he was becoming numb to killing reploids after having to do it over and over again, and that could've scared the shit out of him and make him think he's becoming no different from the mavericks he's killing. It would've also tied into Zero's nightmare at the end of the game about X becoming an emotionless killing machine that only cares about exterminating mavericks. Instead he's just like "Ugh, I'm tired now, someone else do it. But don't kill anyone because killing is badong."

My favorite story about my mom was thanks to this game.
My mom is pretty conservative, so she basically never swears. So imagine my shock during the Splash Warfly battle, as he jumps in and out of the water to reposition. My mom watched me play and was like, "man, this guy's chickenshit"
The controller fell from my hands as my brother and I turn, wide eyed in shock

@@Noname15514 Your statement reads at the time of posting this as:
@Phat Zoarb Yes. The devroon forum was filled with mentally ill fanboys that just wanted a remake of the old flawed/dated games.
      My response:
I am currently unable to find anything supporting what you are saying here. I have searched "devroom toxicity Mega Man Legends 3", "devroom to blame for Mega Man Legends 3 cancellation", "Mega Man toxic fans to blame for Mega Man legends 3", and other variations, along with different boolean searches. Searches were done in and out of incognito mode. Yet, I still cannot find anything remotely in line with what you are saying.
If you could please provide me with a source of your claims as an actual contributing factor for cancellation, I would be more than happy to check it out. A simple article headline should suffice. I am always willing to learn more.
As a matter of fact, I have found several articles stating what could be perceived as the exact opposite. That LACK of involvement in the dev room by fans was a reason.
From an official Capcom of Europe representative:
"it's a shame the fans didn't want to get more involved if we saw there was an audience for MML3 people might change minds"
      Later update:
"yes that was a flippant answer, it was a shame lots of people didn't get involved in Dev room to devleop the game was my point
I said it was "a shame more fans didn't want to get more involved" when discussing our Dev rooms = Blaming Capcom
Thats not blaming the fans thats expressing dissapointment in something we did
Apologies again. The original comment was in relation to the interaction in the Dev rooms NOT the fans who have been nothing but supportive
140 characters is not easy to explain all the detail people want"
      Source: Nintendolife
      Then there's this:
"As the composer of that tweet eventually tried to explain, the remark was intended to be a lament that the Devroom didn't achieve its aims as a marketing tool, not that the fans of the game were somehow responsible for the cancellation of the game. In any case, it obviously didn't come out that way, and the backpedaling was evidently too little too late.
Incidentally, the Devroom was never meant to serve as a primary gauge of "marketability" or whatever--we knew this was hardcore stuff. But it bears noting that the Pan-Western Devroom was US-led and Europe's involvement was secondary, so I would chalk that sentiment up to that one individual's misconception of the project, or else just poor wording."

Not just that. X7's a TERRIBLE introduction for Axl and sets a poor example for what the character becomes down the line. Arguably, X8 and Command Mission are significantly better introductions to the character than X7 was. Command Mission just has him join the party as someone who's just another Hunter like X and Zero, who just has an amnesia problem and wants to find out who he is and where he comes from. Even though there's a massive issue re Command Mission's placement in the grand scheme of the timeline, it's still a far better introduction for Axl than X7 was.
When I hear people are going through the X games in numerical order, I always just say skip X7, play Command Mission and then X8.

Then you’re given Raiden, who barely looks old enough to drink, and comes off as a wannabe imitator (going through the same story beats of MGS1, but with significantly more vitriol thrown at Raiden). Hell, Raiden even tries to call himself Snake.

If you take the fact that Thomas Light treats his creations like they are his children rather than things. This would make Mega man X Mega man's younger brother in the same way Proto man is Mega man's older brother due to when they were completed. sorry about the crumby grammer

x5 technically had magma dragoon as a fight.
x5 was almost the best, if they didn't have the dialogue interrupting everything all the time. The part system was a real hidden gem imo. The multiple armors added quite a bit.

X6 may have been a bland, boring mess that was way too difficult for it's own good (You couldn't even get into the first Sigma stage without a full set of new armor) but X7 more or less assaulted anyone who played it, be it visually with the awful camera and the 'lock on' doing whatever it wants, or audibly with all the bosses shouting nonsense at you the whole fight. Flame Hyenard is the worst but the other bosses aren't much better.
Still kinda surprised we got any other Mega Man games after X7 burned to the ground.

    • @heyitsyaboi8419
      @heyitsyaboi8419 Před 3 lety

Conceptually, X6’s story is really good; make the new main villain close to the main characters and reveal more about their past. It’s the execution in-game that brings it down, what with its poor translation and some other dumb story beats like bringing Sigma back at the very end. I’d argue X7 has the same exact problem; Axl is a really cool character, and making the villain of Red really close to him was also a novel concept. Plus, the Zero series proves that having an X that doesn’t fight and is tired of combat can actually make sense and work well with his character. In that series, he’s sort of a mentor figure and guardian angel for Zero and the other Resistance fighters; if he employed a similar role in X7, especially with Axl as a new recruit on the team, I think it could’ve worked really well. But of course, I think we all know how THAT turned out.

I disagree. X7 is more boring and the whole motif of X going pacifist is... just bad, but the plot overall is good, and the game is competently made. X6 on the other hand is rushed, has a lot of glitches, bullshit level design, unfair difficulty and bad plot. Although I like some choices in X6 the level design is killing it for me.

Nice to see they at least kept up the Mega Man series tradition of having the character move at about half the speed the walking animation suggests. For that authentic "running in a nightmare" feel.

You didn't really see a major dip in quality with the classic series as you did in X, unless you count Mega Man & Bass, which if you do, then yeah. Still somewhat fun to play if you play as Bass, but extremely questionable level design, since most levels were obviously balanced around Bass' control scheme, and not Mega Man's. And also no e-tanks, especially with how excruciatingly long the King and Wily levels were.

One of the things I remember most from this game is that all of the Mavericks have unique pre-battle dialogue with the character you enter the fight with. Yes, this also includes X.
I specificly remember that if you fight Tornado Tonion with X he tells X how all of Red Alert is being controlled by "The Professor" (who is unsurprisingly revealed to be Sigma later in the game) and kinda implies that he has no control of his own actions at this point.
That also stood out the most for me in the game. Well the most aside from Flame Hynard's voice clips and the total arse that was the fight against Red.

It was so bad, they had to release an entry on the PSP just to course correct and the franchise has been dormant for almost a decade.
