*Davinci:* 💀
I almost liked but...yea that's good riiight there
Context was six hundred sixty...mhm

Man created the first emoji
Fun fact: this thing wasn't invented by Da Vinci. In fact, he has never designed anything like this
He was foreshadowing that, “if I built a full robot it would kill you, I only made the hand and you can see what it desires”
Ironic and creepy that the oldest robot is able to draw a human skull.
Well, it can actually draw anything. You just need to make a drawing that can be done in one line, translate the height/width positions of the pen into points on a graph, then cut those graph curves onto 2 cam wheels (one for x, one for y), and each cam pushes the hand on that specific axis. This is actually how every oscilloscope screen works. It's also relatively simple to add a third cam wheel to this design that would raise/lower the hand, so you could make drawings with multiple lines. For it's time, it was definitely a novel idea, but it boils down to a couple simple mechanisms combined to make one that seems much more complex.

Damn, Da Vinci had the freaking Infinity Gauntlet.
Its crazy how precisely he was able to calculate anything that he could imagine. To this day there is many things he created that are still left undiscovered.
You can make this pretty easily nowadays: get your drawing, turn it into a single curve without lifting your pen, sample enough points on the curve, take the Fourier transform of those points pretending they're in the complex plane, et voilà: the numbers you get are each a gear, where the size of the gear is its complex magnitude and the starting angle of the gear is its complex phase.
But da Vinci lived more than 300 years before Fourier, so ... magic.

Da Vinci's work is extra impressive when you realize that neither he, nor anyone alive during his time understood fire (as a process of combustion) or gasses.
The entire European/Mediterranean world believed fire was the result of phlogiston, a theory put forward by Aristotle to explain how and why some things burn different than others and some things don't burn at all.
People didn't know oxygen was required until the late 1700's, and indeed gasses were only first being truly discovered and defined about 250 to 300 years ago. Crazy
Hahahaha, the bellow was invented in the nineteenth century B.C. I guess all those blacksmiths and their apprentices pumping their hearts out couldn't understand that air was needed for fire. Not to mention all primitive fire making methods that require you to fan or blow on the ember... You modernists are so ignorant "hurr durr, everyone in the past was stupid, they not know how fire work, hahaha". The people who "discovered" the gases only gave names to them.
Damn impressive indeed
I don't think most of Da Vinci's work was related to oxygen or combustion for that matter.
@@abhimantigga1726 you missed the point. I was saying these inventions are even more impressive when you realize all the basic scientific stuff that people of that time didn't know.
It would be like saying this random tribe of cannibals were able to were able to disprove spontaneous generation while still believing they could absorb people's thoughts by eating their brains.
@@muddbear6410 There was a reason for this, all the things were analog and mechanical machines that could perform functions was already invented, all you had to do was match the rotation of the cogs to the desired design.

@@patmorris9692 There were programmable automatons in 1700's. Not a very big difference, honestly....
This was programmed by tracing the drawing with the hand, while rotating the gears, and tracing the shape of the camgear with the reading head. Then, you cut that camgear, and the reading head of the hand will follow it, tracing the drawing back.

There is an older computer than this. Its called the Antikythera Mechanism. It predates Davinci by about 1500 years. It was a mechanical set of cog wheels used to track stars for ships at sea to know precisely where they are. It is proof that civilization was far more advanced than we ever knew for that time.
Look I want to agree so bad but he said robot and as far as I'm aware the antikythera machine does not meet the definition of robot
