hopefully the sway bar moving about doesnt get worn down as the bar will actually rotate, if you have a cable wrapped around it, it will be making noise as you drive if it is tightly wound around it

I have an 2000 e350 I thought about the same thing weld 5 or 6 rebars on frame under cat and maybe steel mesh to top it off it would take 15 or 20 min at least with saw . I just caught someone cutting my cat out while I was sleeping in van .
Thank you. Now I know that installing one of these would be a pain in the ass. Not that I have the ability to install one myself. I've read suggestions about scratching your VIN on the catalytic converter or painting it. I'd rather do that -- although I probably won't do either because they would require me to get under my car and I don't have a safe way to do that. :P
Had the Converters stolen off Isuzu Forward cab truck with two converters. The bill was over $5000.00. The kit came with cat clamps for both convertors. Hopefully that will be the end of that nonsense.

I like the cat clamp but it's way overpriced. Heavy duty split flanges and steel wire (under the flanges and around the frame) would achieve the same thing for less than $30.

No reason to install the protection on this aftermarket catalytic. Those scumbags only interested in original converters because of high amount of platinum and palladium. They will jack it up ,see that it's the aftermarket one and they will turn around and leave. I took mine original off and put it into storage unit untill I get the protective plate. And also the device you used doesn't protect catalytic as well as the plate does.

Hi David, a thief stole the cat from my '91 240 recently. They cut off the downpipe including the O2 sensor. Can I install a new universal cat with an O2 port or would it be better to install a new downpipe and cat with flanges?
Ah bummer! First time I’ve heard of a 240 getting nabbed. Oem is best but I’m sure a universal cat can work for you if you’re not in CA or NY, and I think Maine is on the exclusion list too.

I install custom made cat locks that are plate manifolds for all 2nd gen prius cars with installation in LA for anyone watching this and I do it for low price cheaper than if you were to buy the cat clamp on this video
Did your car insurance cover it? Make sure you have car insurance that covers it..Only cost me two dollars extra each 6 months.. Also you should have a better alarm system unless it was easy to get out of the car without jacking it. My alarm system detects anybody touching the car.. Even went off on a cat Trying to get under my car..It's OK because I have a paging system I was out the door looking at the car within a few seconds

Yeah, they'll hear it and let you know they heard it the next morning when you ask them if they heard anything. It literally takes 30-45 seconds to remove a cat. They are long gone before your neighbour could pick up the phone.

A reciprocating saw is going to have a REALLY hard time cutting steel cable. And it seems like that's the tool of choice for your average junky thief. Mine was stolen recently... the guy showed up a couple hours earlier and spent about 5 minutes under the truck doing who-knows-what. I think he may have tried unbolting it? I didn't see any obvious tools on him when he crawled under. He must have got frustrated (it doesn't unbolt or anything, so who knows why he spent so long under there). He left and came back a couple hours later with a buddy... both had cordless saws and they cut both ends at the same time. Made a HUGE racket at 3:30 AM, but they didn't care. It was about 20 seconds and they were done and gone. His initial visit gave him enough info to make that last visit go as quick as possible. Turds... I got my CatClamp and will be installing it today. Sure, there are ways you can cut it off, which is good since at some point you'd need to replace the converter, or work on the exhaust. But you'll have to work at it and bring more tools. These scumbags aren't looking to spend any more time than possible, and if it'll be noisy, even less so. You could use cable cutters, torches, grinders, etc. etc. but they'll all add time and noise - enough so that it'll alert people. Trust me, if that racket had gone a little longer, I'd have been out there with my "trusty sidekick" to figure out what's what, and it would have been an interesting thing to see what happened next. Crooks like this don't want confrontation. They want the fast score and skedaddle... Make it just hard enough that they go on to someone else instead.
Cat Security $279. This is $176. Watching the install from Eric the Car Guy for the Cat Security shield that is way more involved, especially if you have an older car and rusty bolts. I like it, but am looking at this because it IS cheaper and IS easier to install.

It's more about putting off thieves to go look for easier targets. If they really want it, ultimately they can always just steal your car and chop it up. But cat thieves just want to be in and out fast without too much attention, not to mention way less tools and knowledge to just cut a catalytic converter.

There is no point of this lock. It will stop stealing the cat but it won’t stop thieves for damaging it. At the end you are still out of pocket.

only one cable is used , so cut it once and thread it back through the rest of the clamp
Once you tighten it the cables are independent. You don't know how it works. Read the install.

Yeah with enough time and noise you can saw through anything. But can you make that much of a scene and get away with it?
It's more about putting off thieves to go look for easier targets. If they really want it, ultimately they can always just steal your car and chop it up. But cat thieves just want to be in and out fast without too much attention, not to mention way less tools and knowledge to just cut a catalytic converter.
