The anti-quota protests are escalating in Bangladesh. Around 32 have been killed and more than 500 have been injured in violent clashes between police and protesters. Due to the protests, all schools and colleges have been shut indefinitely, security agencies have been deployed and mobile internet has been suspended. Students are protesting against the quota system in government jobs. Bangladesh used to reserve 30% jobs for freedom fighters, who fought in the 1971 Liberation war. In 2018, there was a pushback against the quota system due to which it was abolished. However, this month, Dhaka's High Court reversed the 2018 ruling, bringing back the quota system.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has offered to negotiate with protesters but the students have declined her proposal. While addressing the nation on Wednesday, PM Hasina has condemned the student deaths and threatened strict action against the perpetrators. How can the student protests affect Bangladesh's internal security and diplomatic ties with the West? On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma tells you more.

The Law provides that every Indian Citizen has a right to reside,study and obtain means of livelihood ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.Trying to enforce this “LOCALS ONLY “ norm will be counter productive and unconstitutional.Karnataka should also remember that MILLIONS OF KANNADIGAS ARE WORKING OUTSIDE THEIR STATE and it will be a disaster if they are removed from jobs for similar reasons.
Quotas have ruined this country, and politicians find this as a good vote catcher but a destructive policy for industry for efficient management. When India see a movement to get rid off vote and caste based reservation. Discarding merit will not help India to become super power. There should only be economically backward reservation irrespective of caste and religion. Everyone who uses reservation, using tax payers money. They should be willing to contribute 5% more income tax when they start earnings.
I agree with you about reservation in Private sector in Karnataka..Karnataka government is portraying an attitude that is a complete contrast to a Kannadiga..People from other states immediately feel at home.Kannadigas are the friendliest and most accomodating and if they are outside, they blend well and behave much better than most outsiders they face at home..There always has been a problem where most from nothern parts of India bring their culture of 'class difference' non-existant in Bengaluru. Most of them degrade locals in smaller jobs, insulting for no-hindi etc..Talking about IT sector , local skilled Kannadigas may not gain much from this anyway . However, it cannot be denied that there are scenarios where outsiders form a network within the companies and prioritise people from their place over a local despite better performance and track record of a local Kannadiga.Reservation in IT does not bring any significant change to job opportunities , it's upto the people to get sharper and better.Hope the government gets smarter than just introducing reservations as a solution.

Mam, I agree to what you are telling about reservation in private sector in Bengaluru.. However, its more of identity problem.. If you hear the north indians speak in Karnataka, they will simply say " why dont you speak Hindi"?? Why the hell do we need to speak Hindi?? Do they speak Kannada outside Karnataka?? Lets say I will come to delhi and start asking why dont you speak Kannada here?? What will be the response?? Indian reservation system is equally important to be discussed. There is so much discomfort even to talk about it on international level
with reservation we should also talk about the rotten cast system,narcissistic upper cast, and the percentage of participation of every class on administration, judiciary and eduction. and also systematic exploitation of poor, dalits, minorities and tribals rights.

Kannadiga quota may not be the answer. But Karnataka receiving less than half contributions of income from central government is not right either. Diverting the funds collected from South and pushing to Nothern states is not fair. I can hardly see a kannadiga in any central government position within the state. It's mostly dominated by 'few select ' state candidates. Kindly comment on that as well, before speaking statements like" if kannadigas in other states were sent back home".
Kannadigas are one of the most hospitable and adaptable people you can come across.
