  • In this video I’m going to show you step by step how to order, 3D print, build and configure your Keebio Iris rev 8. If you don’t have a 3D printer don't worry, I will thoroughly walk through the options on the order page.

    Thanks for making this video! I've been looking for an affordable hotswappable split keyboard and this seems to fit the bill 😊

    Great video. A suggestion to help some users who want to DIY their on keyboard parts: Re-upload the CAD files on the drive in .step format. It is pretty economical to have the parts laser cut, however most laser cutting places don't accept .stl files. Someone without access to CAD software won't be able to convert the formats easily.

      That's a good idea. I tweaked some existing STL files using some online tools so I don't have the CAD files but I'll see what is available for export.

    Great video! I can't wait to build mine this week. I might try to swap out the middle layer for one supporting the ergodox-style tenting -- have you ever tried that too?

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks! No I haven't tried that but seems like it should work without too much tinkering. Good luck!

      Hey I'm looking into getting this keyboard and looking into tenting it, did you get anywhere with your efforts?

    • @J2DOLARownsU
      @J2DOLARownsU Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@RanLottem yep. It works fine. Though I ultimately returned it and got a Sinc keyboard instead, which is a bit more comfortable fingers wise ("normal" rather) and is just as good to tent.

    hey that's awesome! so just to be sure if i checked one of the options in the "plate kit" roll-down i will also get all the screws needed for assembly?

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 7 měsíci +1

      That's correct, you will get the required screws and standoffs.

    Great video! Im really considering to order one myself. I would only have one question. Since im also want to play videogames with it, is it possible to just use the left side of the keyboard without having the right part also plugged in to get some more space for the mouse or does the iris only work if both parts are connected?

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, each half will work by itself and another solution is to use a longer usb-c to connect the halves that way you can easily make room in between the halves for a mouse.

    I run an iris as my main keyboard. Do you think it would be easy to learn neovim with it?

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I think Neovim has a learning curve regardless of the keyboard but I've been having fun using the Iris in Neovim for the past few weeks. The hardest part of Neovim is the mental shift. It is like when playing a video game you want to make all of your hot keys close to WASD but in Neovim you want to keep your fingers on the home row keys (like in touch typing) and build your keybindings close to those keys.

      @kj-marslander Před 9 měsíci

      It's very fun to learn neovim on any keyboard. I learned it on a regular tkl kb and got a split ergo a few years later. I got used to the split layout within a week. The best part is that you can remap any key to do anything you want in nvim or remap the actual key in via/vial. limit is your imagination

      @bjcampolo  Před 9 měsíci

      @@kj-marslanderYeah, I really like the key settings and macros in Via

    We should do no lateral movement with the fingers.

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 6 měsíci

      @fcalin21 Do you mean make a video about that or just setup your key mappings?

    • @fcalin21
      @fcalin21 Před 6 měsíci

      @@bjcampolo I am saying that from the ergonomic point of view lateral movement of the fingers are not good. The layout that you use is not optimal.

    • @bjcampolo
      @bjcampolo  Před 6 měsíci

      @@fcalin21 Good to know. Do you have a link for a more optimal configuration?

    • @fcalin21
      @fcalin21 Před 6 měsíci

      @@bjcampolo No, butt from experience, four rows and four columns works great. I would add one lateral button for the pinkie and one for the index finger. Those are good for not often used characters (esc, backspace, delete, ...).

    hi there, sorry to reach out this way but I couldn't find any other contact info. do you have a backup of the indie gamer forums? i'm working on a research project and there's a thread that doesn't seem to be archived anywhere and would be very valuable to me as a historical reference. i'd also love to ask you a couple questions over email if possible. no worries if not, or if you just don't want to deal with the hassle. thanks so much!

      I discontinued the linode server and the database backup likely went away as well. You can email me at bcampolo@bantamcity.com
