In the very last scene, Cameron was supposed to stand on his desk as well, but Dylan Kussman vetoed the idea because he did not think it was in character. He was surprised when director Peter Weir agreed.

Dylan was right. Cameron should not have stood up. He wasnt a bad student he was just a product of the school, he liked the guys and willing to do some things but illegal things he drew the line. He saved his skin to look good to the brass but essentially saved his future. Cameron was a douche but some of his actions he felt he had to do.
I don't think Cameron had much affection for Mr. Keating to begin with.

I understood Cameron until the end. He wanted to be included but not risk anything. But in the end he was too cold, he didn't just comply under pressure, he felt no remorse. I wish he had stood up on his desk at the end, would have made him a bit more sympathetic and show he regretted what he said. But goddamn that ending for him was bad.

You know I hate Cameron as much as the rest of us but I get why he ratted keating out. I mean he’s a CHILD and he has his whole future ahead of him. He isn’t like Charlie, he conforms to the norms and plans things out step by step whereas Charlie is more spontaneous and free living who deviates from the rules. I get why he did it. But I also get why Charlie punched him. They’re just so incredibly different in personality, polar opposites in most of not all aspects, so of course he was gonna do it, and of course Charlie was gonna punch him. In that moment they’re being their sole selves, cam thinking of the future and Charlie not.
