- A major recovery operation is underway in Jersey after Storm Ciaran caused widespread damage to the island.
Scores of homes have been scarred and sports courts have been all but destroyed by winds reaching speeds of up to 104mph.
Sky's Ashna Hurynag reports from the Channel Islands.

What is irritating in the extreme is the closing statement ....''...this battered island that refuses to be beaten'. What does that even mean?
it means that we have been battered by the storm but we're not giving up and letting it beat us.
It means they refuse to pay taxes like the rest of us.
It means nothing. They love to cause fear 😂
last man standing?
grow up lol@@emilymiles8270
Sorry about that folks, I had a vindaloo that night
Just to be clear to those who know nothing about weather, this was not a hurricane, not even remotely a tropical system, it just had hurricane force winds, specifically Category 2 force winds at it’s peak strength. Also, I agree with some others here that some of the damage here could not have been done by 104mph C2 equivalent winds, but rather by a tornado, maybe even a few.

100% right, my step mums family live in Jersey and saw "stuff spiralling in the air in thick cloud down to the ground" and "a raw like a plane taking off". Looking at the trail of damage from the drone shots its definitely a tornado but typical MSM would rarther spout the 'big storm cause damage everyone be scared of climate change' narrative
Loon again just ..rest u..nooeess
Yes some Jersey ppl said there was. A tornado
In 1988 i was in florida during hurricane season, that didnt scare me! But this was terrifying
Beautiful Island, shame to hear how the storm affected them.
nail the tiles on next time 😂
October 1987, now that was a strong wind. Got woken up at 3am to something that sounded like a bunch of jet engines at full throttle. Looked out of the window and saw waste bins flying down the road at 100mph smashing into cars etc. Bloody scary!
We are strong, we are community that helps eachother. We fight through this 🇯🇪💪
This isn't the result of a hurricane this seems more like a tornado. The destruction is very specific. I am sure this storm must have spawned tornados. 100mph winds don't do this damage.
100mph+ winds WILL DO THAT SORT OF DAMAGE
There was a confirmed tornado that struck the island during a thunderstorm. This was a couple hours before the main 100mph hit.
Geo-engineering????
No they don't. I saw the results of 150mph wind in the US. And hurricanes even reach 200mph gusts. Another commenter confirmed my suspicion, this was the result of a tornado (one or more).@@stephensnell5707
There the same thing!
Jersey has its right to defend itself from that horrific storm
@@fellow557-ct8vtwhat do the refugees have to do with it?

It’s the way they make houses these days cheap and quick and this is what happens when there’s a storm
100mph winds aren't the storm the UK usually sees though.
Regardless they're still far better built than US houses, which are basically paper mache.
They aren't new homes
my house was one of the ones damaged and is pictured in the line of houses in the first 5 seconds or so of this video and it was built in the 1930s though
£20,000 tables??!! What were they made of, gold??
Mirrors with charlie on them
He said the _tables_ cost £20,000, not each table lol
We had strong wind here to and things like Big bins and furniture went flying across the car park. Also trees came down so must be powerful winds to move large trees.
In Jersey i saw a 15_20 foot boat get lifted out the water and sent flying like it was matchbox
😮😮😮😮 sorry for the family lost there home that night
I think its time to redesign roofing systems with stronger metrial but but council is the biggest problem because roofing tiles and council are one big mafia 😔
Wall of debris coming towards the house...
Sounded like a jet engine...
That was a tornado.
With respect, some of the new buildings that have been destroyed don’t even look fit for purpose. They look like temporary accommodation, not something that will even last a decade. I’ve seen schools that were ten years old pulled down because they’re no longer repairable or safe. It’s all about money, like everything else!
Cant beleive i slept straight through it 😂 woke up to the power out for 2 days both roads out blocked by big trees, but its not what the media is hyping it up to be acting like its the blitz or something, typical.
Those modern houses didn't stand the test.
If people feels like this because of a storm, imagine how they feel in Gaza
got to love whataboutisms. If people feel like this in Gaza, imagine how they feel during the second world war when like 15 million people perished.
And Israel!!!
@@user-wc9qh4bj2j yeah, no.
Why do brits makes their roofs out of cardboard that can’t hold up to a little rain?
They don't. The Government does. And Jersey has it's own.
Cardboard????
Why do Texans make their houses out of Cardboard? @@oceansunset6147
It is the new builds, I'm in a 300 year old house and the only thing that breaks is the plaster, or reeds from the ceiling
Some of the houses in Jersey are made out of Horse hair. No joke. It's a little bit older than America. By like a thousand years. It's also a rich persons haven. The poor got hit. Not the rich.
Nice to see the first victim Karl pilkington made it through safe and sound
Life will be absolutely unbearable by the end of this century. If there is anyone left.

At least nobody glued themselves onto the road.
Somebody could have been late to work.
These british new build houses are just showing how low the quality is.
For sure , just was saying the one im in is 300 year old and would have survived the 1703 storm . It is a tiny old cottage, nothing special , just built to last :)
Yes
Nothing is built to last. Absolutely nothing.@@Paws4Thought669
Why is the reporter talking like she’s in Gaza ?

Bad quality building (?)

in england they dont even nail the roof tiles on
@@rbruce5270they nail every row if the customer pays for it, if not every 5th row is nailed.
Imagine how the people of Gaza feel?!
The Americans must me laughing at us with this
So saddened by the war torn devistation, created bye, the environment that we now live in, hope everyone was safe 😥😥❤️
Now imagine it was bombs being dropped!
Our building quality standards are terrible, flimsy materials, no enough concrete in the walls...
Looks like a bloody tornado went through 😮
Get a grip your not living in Gaza.
I have experienced true hurricanes and cyclones but we were prepared.
Building Regulations need to be improved. With climate change this is the shape of things to come. There should be no excuse for roofs collapsing and roof materials being blown off because tiles are just laid on battens with nothing but their weight to stop them lifting causing flying debris.
Sympathies to all those affected for what was would have been a horrifying experience
It's a storm, happens every year. Granted some years are worse it's life.
The posh houses won't allow filming of their damage, what can they be hiding?
Hit by a tornado too.
Imagine what it’s like to be in Gaza

If Geo engineering is to blame for these winds it’s pretty clear it was an attack on British Islands and coastal regions. In land just got the wind and rain.
How does it feel to live with this single digit IQ of yours, gammon?

Imagine how the 10.000 people in Gaza feel!

Guernsey super weapon attack 😂
Wealthy island with 99.9% pepole insured storms have been going on for thousands of years
😂😂 it’s just normal October & November weather heavy winds ,heavy rains as usual every year the same 😂😂😂
No it isnt!! October and November don’t usually result in +100mph winds nor people being told they can’t move back into their home until June. This is not normal!!
Tables look ok....
Global warming doesn’t meant mean hot weather folks
Big storm
!
Gods way of telling people something
Not more weather!
Ha, Terry Shaw, my old maths teacher
To be honest the storm made it all better
Just send there all the gammons from England who dismissed the storm as "just a drizzle". Comment sections in the news are full of them.
Good idea, some of the comments are quite frankly disgusting. Someone in my family lost their home, their car and their possessions in the estate that was hit badly hit. They’ve been told they cannot move back until at least June. Someone else in the island is in intensive care as a chimney collapsed onto him whilst he slept.
Media hype its autumn weather its happened before in the channel Islands i eas dtick there before

I don't care about non nordic issues from other tribes.
Sorry to say but that really isn't anything to do with the UK. If other countries get involved we're looking at a war that would kill far more people than just Palestinians.
