    I used to ride boards backwards back in the day too. I just thought that was the way because my first board was an old powell and my first popsicle deck I just naturally assumed the smaller one was the nose. But I learned in my break from skateboarding after a knee injury that I was doing it wrong, and once I got back on the board it all made sense riding it the correct way.
    My board madness didn't really kick in until I was just getting into my 20s and I had been riding the same 7.75-7.875 sizes for a long time, then I got an 8" chocolate deck from a friend and started sizing up, sizing down, sized up to an 8.6 at one point, and was feeling off on my foot positioning and then I realized it had a 14.625" wheelbase and I did a lot of testing to find the board that flipped around the way I wanted it and realized that I liked shorter wheelbases, so now if the wheelbase is over 14.25 I just mentally can't do it. I also started to sand my grip down considerably when I grip my board. I don't like brand new grip, just throws my flicks off, Even jessup is too gritty for me fresh out of the box.
    I'm even finding myself starting to get particular about the steepness of my kicks, I want a long roughly 7" standard popsicle nose, and a 6.5" or so pointier tail. I just grabbed a bunch of element decks off their site that were on sale and they're pretty close to the shape I want my boards to be. Ideally the nose would be a little longer, and the wheelbase a little shorter, at 14.307 it's a bit of an odd one, but I don't mind it so much because i'm riding aces right now and those don't really throw the wheelbase out the way the thunders I was riding before did.

    My late twenties madness is with bushings and truck weight. I've gone through like 5 sets of trucks and countless duro/shape/brand bushings over the two years. I was stoked when Oski released his Lurpivs cos now I've fully committed to those and the weight and feel of them was seemingly what I was looking for. Still change out the Bushings a bit cos I'm always trying to find that balance of soft enough to tighten them past rattling washers and to never feel restricted skating transition + some stability for everything else.

    • @Quadruple_curious
      @Quadruple_curious Před 3 měsíci

      I absolutely never cared about bushings for like 15 years. I thought I just had to loosen or tighten accordingly. Then recently I had brand new everything, including bushings, but instead of setting up a complete I decided to replace everything one by one just to see how it would affect things. So I replaced the bushings and suddenly my razor tailed board felt brand new and stiff. It felt absolutely great but then next thing you know I was on the hunt for the “best” bushings and have a whole bag of em. Ended up deciding it doesn’t matter, the best bushings are just ones that aren’t cracked and chipping. Same solution for boards and everything else. Shape of board affects me a lot less than soggy razortailed boards. So I just get boards my size on sale no matter the shape and I’m good

    I used to put my initials center of the board under the back truck, could only ride 1" hardware countersunk grip over the bolts and i'd only sand down the top left and bottom right of the board for kick flips, and nollie heels, hard flips i'd skate off the nose, back truck tighter than the front truck, all wheels had to have graphics in, and first trick had to be a kickflip, because if you can do a kick flip you can land any trick.

  • @skait174
    @skait174 Před 2 lety

    My main madness are my bushings/trucks.
    Independent 92A Medium Hard bushings w/ the top washer removed.
    I'm a heavier guy that can make tight trucks feel not tight, but i like a looser ride. So i got harder bushings so i didn't have to tighten my kingpin down so far, and it worked so well that my washer would clink around!
    I absolutely hated that sound just as much as a flatspot, so i just got ride of the top washer, and now i have comfortable/familiar turn on all my trucks.
    Took me years to get that formula right 🙄

    I need to put on the griptape perfectly straight. It has to be black and no noisy grafic, and I put it on after I put the trucks on the deck. Another thing is that I absolutely despise square nose or tail, and it has to be mellow concave (don't like it when the edges of the board dig into my feet). With shoes: I really don't like skating in black shoes. I think it looks ugly. Lol

  • @josecelis7464

    Where i live we have to use the same board until it's totally useless (probably for like 6 or 7 months, at least the local skatepark is smooth so boards can keep the nose and tail a little longer) boards are hard to afford.
    My size is 8.25, i can skate a 8.5 but after two months i can't stand the size and i get over it
    I can't skate straight black grip, i cut my grip in three pieces and paint the piece that goes on the center (i don't understand why people cut the griptape in half to have a cutted line from nose to tail)
    Wheels: not 96 and not 101, left back wheel gtaphic goes inside, right back wheel graphic goes outside and left front wheel graphic goes outside and right front graphic goes inside 😂😂😂😂

    i have extreme Board Madness, if my board feels even slightly too heavy, i cant ollie up shit although i know it really doesnt matter all that much, my trucks have to be exactly tight enough to where i dont get wheel locking wheelbite when i put all my weight into turning either way, but loose enough to where they will just barely touch the board and give me those tiny little wheelbite marks (idk why it helps me with specific tricks and overall stability) and it really sucks when putting on new wheels lol, lastly i cant ollie onto something if i roll over a crack right before it, or there is a crack directly parallel with the edge of a ledge/rail/etc i literally have to bondo that shit or else im dreaming if i think i can do anything XD

    I hate comparing skating to anything else, but I think Andrew Reynolds is treating it like a procedure. For him, the more mechanical he makes it, the more 2nd nature the trick becomes. Like taking his "repetition" all the way to before he starts. Like a baseball pitcher; dare I say, and I hate baseball. Or maybe like a free throw. Spin the ball, dribble spin, dribble dribble, shoot. But for him... Spin the wheel, check the rear truck, spin the left wheel, go. It's a bit OCD. .?

    Here’s an intriguing question that I’m sure others have wondered about … I always see pro’s kick down on their wheel before trying a real heavy trick, what’s up with that? I’ve seen Nyjah and others do it. Is that some sort of madness or are they straightening their trucks or something?

    • @skait174
      @skait174 Před 2 lety +2

      It's a way to check that your trucks are still functioning properly before trying the next trick.
      U coulda been trying a big trick and the hardware loosened or the kingpin snapped, but u don't find out until too late.
      A little kickdown on the truck is just to check that nothing is wrong w/ it.

    • @jphjphjph

      I started doing this like 2 years ago lol. For me its because I feel like when my bushings start to crack they sometimes get set turning a certain way, kicking down on the right side (im goofy) makes them turn a little bit towards my toe side rather than my heels, probably bullshit idk. I also sometimes stand on my board with one foot and push the trucks into a toeside turn to get the bushings moving that way a little bit.
