Caught My FIRST Blue Marlin!!

- In this episode of BlacktipH, I go fishing for Blue Marlin off the coast of Golfito, Costa Rica, with Thumper Bluewater Expeditions. This trip was my first ever Blue Marlin fishing adventure! We started catching bait (small yellowfin and bonito) at sunrise. Once we caught enough bait, we set the teasers and started trolling for marlin. It didn't take long to get our first bite! Unfortunately, I lost the first marlin of the day. Within 20 minutes, I hooked the second fish of the day, my first ever Pacific Sailfish. After a short battle, we released the 100lb sailfish. Shortly after, I got another bite from a marlin! I fought the fish to the boat before it broke the leader. Harry said it was a Black Marlin. We touched the leader, but I wanted to touch the fish! It wasn't long before I hooked another Blue Marlin! We landed the marlin, and this time, I got to touch the fish! Catching this marlin was a dream come true! Later in the day, I hooked another Pacific Sailfish, and this fish was massive! After a short fight, I landed the giant sailfish. We estimated the weight to be over 140lbs, making this the biggest sailfish of my life! Before the day finished, we hooked one more marlin on a lure. This marlin was by far the largest fish of the day! After an intense fight, we landed the fish. The estimated weight was between 350-400lbs. Before releasing the fish, I jumped in the water and grabbed the marlin's bill. This fish tossed me around like a rag doll! It was incredibly special to be that close to a Blue Marlin!

Willy G’s Outdoors I’m happy when I catch a bass😂 I don’t live by any ocean but the lake my cottage is on, you see the fish all the time. But you can never ever catch them. I’ve gone salmon fishing though. I caught a 26 pound king salmon

A bit hard to tell from a video alone, but I'd be suprised if that fish @6:50 even cracked the 200lb mark.
These are still essentially juvenile marlin - good fun on 30lb gear, but a different story when fishing with 50 to 80lb gear and then seeing tiagras being emptied!!
Doen here in Australia (and further down the South American coast) the average size would be closer to 400lbs+, with big fish capable of growing to over 1000lbs!

i caught a white marlin last year at the age of 15 using the same technique the bait and switch with a spanish mackerel off the coast of ocean city maryland 65 miles out it wasnt very big and we only got to grab the liter. Great Video keep up the good work love the videos!

I remember my first marlin. It was a White Marlin out of Rudee Inlet, Virginia. My first 2 Blue Marlin were caught in 2004 in 2005 in Bermuda.

For everyone wanting to catch one of these fish, it’s very simple. Take bait for it and go only once. Grab the rod and then don’t, but only if it does. Make sure the bait is out past it, and reel from inside. Then once it has, only go twice and not more than it can. Marlin will be at the boat and it can be done for you and have a great time, but every knot and rope go and yes!!!!
