The FIA World Endurance Championship is the world’s premier international sportscar championship, contested over seven rounds across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. With multiple cars across three categories (Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGTE Am) all on track at the same time, the WEC is a sports car extravaganza that offers action, overtakes, excitement and entertainment for fans worldwide. - Sport
In F1 there wasn't enough Ferrari pain this week, WEC solved it
idk pretty happy with how f1 went with charle getting pole and 2nd in sprint big improvement if ua sk me compared to begining of season

@@user-tr1hx7jx4r did you understand the sintaxis of the phrase? FIA's Action for Road Safety... but let's remove the tyre blankets for a little bit more safety
All they need to do is take it a bit easier until they have tire temp. It’s not the FIA’s fault most racing drivers have single digit IQ
Man they are professional racing drivers with more than 500 races as experience. They know (or should) how to behave on cold tyres. Safety? Look at these cars, they are incredible safe
lets install an AI into the car that drives the car for them so they never crash again. problem solved.
Dumb comment. IMSA did well without tires blankets. This is the driver's fault for not adapting to cold tires.
@@s2korpionic 💯
without tyre blanket it's just too dangerous. There is already 2 hypercars creashed because of cold tyres...
It might have swung a little too far this race. On other tracks on warmer days, yes. Today maybe not. Though you have to wonder what tyres they're on, out of the choices available
Also, all these drivers aren't used to driving on cold tires yet
Wait until next year when F1 ditches the blankets, it’s going to be carnage.

We were visiting the Scuderia pits when this car had the tyre and driver change… all went well and then this happened… the utter disappointment of the team and then those TV camera’s on their faces … we felt their pain ;(
The increased energy consumption as a result of the safety cars having to come out must easily offset what the tyre warmers are consuming. Not even factoring in damage to the cars themselves, or the sheer danger cold tyres pose. I'm all for making environmentally friendly changes, but they have to be done in co-operation with the people who actually understand the sport.
Actually safety cars decrease energy consumption.

I think spa maybe one of the races where they have to have tire warmers or they have to put the race mid summer like during july august ish
Or they can, you know, be the professional drivers they are and show some restraint and discipline like every other series. Maybe these drivers just aren't as good as they are made out to be I guess. 🤷🏻♂️
Good job as always FIA, removing tyre blanket was clearly a great idea.
Skill issue
it's a skill issue. No other series without them has issues
Indycar and nascar, Race on ovals without tyre blanket, the drivers need to adapt to situations like this
@@GabrielSilva-my5fr On a oval cold tyres are easier to handle in comparison with a track like Spa because on a race track like Spa the grip difference at different sections varies a lot more compared with a normal oval.
@@henrih3080 yeah, but IMSA race without blanckets for years, and they're not crashing like this, so since the cars are the same, its on the drivers to manage the cold tyres and stay on track
Wiggle, snap into a solid barrier... brings back bad memories of a Aston at Le Mans. If the idea is to abandon tyre blankets, then the tyres must be made in a way to support it, rather than accepting a high powered racecar being nearly uncontrollable for a brief moment.
Removing tire blankets as an energy initiative is beyond crazy and dangerous, there can be alternatives that do not compromise safety
Indycar doesn’t use tire blankets and it’s not a safety issue
@@mikko3 So what. These are professional drivers. Maybe not that good if they can't manage cold tires for a lap or two. That bern part of racing for a long time. Maybe they should make room for drivers that can deal with it, or just give them all of the nannies road cars get and be done with it. Why should we expect professionals to be professional? 🤷🏻♂️
Tire temperature was always a factor, well before they introduced the blankets !
we were sitting in eau rouge for a big portion of the race and the speed diffrence between cars comming out of the pit and once with warm tires was at some point extremely dangerouse.
for some reason the director preferred to show pitsstops the whole time but he missed a few near misses.
The no tire blanket rule is just dangerous in these conditions. Its fine at sebring and portimao but a cold Spa is not the place for this rule
Dangerous? What's dangerous?
if you know the track and tyres are cold then drive slower, come on, they were crashing even in formation lap
Nope. Driver's fault for not acknowledging the cold tire.
No. Drivers took the risk and paid the price

That’s going to leave a mark. I keep waiting for a Ferrari wins/ championship in any category. Wait continues.😢
It's already lol.. GTE Pro
FIA trying to get rid of tyre warmers to save energy when they could specify a Wattage output required from renewable energy sources for the venue to host FIA events. Save energy for the event, maintain safety and in the long run save these venues a significant amount in energy costs. Hell they could switch to an electric safety car given that they don't go all that far, could just have it on charge ready to go.
How come everyone is complaining about tyre warmers but IMSA doesn't even use them?
Point proven by this and the other cold tyre crashes why tyre warmers should not of been removed this year!!! Stupid idea WEC!
that is dumb!! motorsport is all about safety and then they take away tyre warmers?! make it make sense!
Other racing series manage without them, it's the drivers who forget/underestimate the tire performance and conditions. High level drivers like these should be able to compensate and adjust.
@@ConstantinArg what do you mean they forget the tire performance, this guy just crashed in the middle of the straight because of the tyres being ice cold, its not about the performance its just about considering how crazy it is that this kind of situation can even happen
@@ConstantinArg Other racing series don't race at Spa at 5 degrees Celsius, so saying it's a skill issue is otherworldly stupid on your side.
I feel like the driver’s just need to get used to actually warming up tyres, if IMSA drivers can do it, so can WEC drivers
You can't warm your tyres in only a few metres from the pits. WEC hypercar tyres require a significant amount of energy input to get them up to temperature. Getting rid of tyre blankets is an unsafe decision with the tyres they have.
@@DunkdaHunkHe wasn't suggesting you can warm them that quickly. The suggestion was they need to get used to how long they need to warm them and not put too much through them too quickly.
@@bremCZ wtf you guys do know they are racing right? They don't have the luxury of getting the tires to temp slowly. So what now? Every pit service with new tires the drivers go slow for a couple of laps while your competitors out gun you?

I don't know much about other disciplines, but these cars, with these power to weight ratios, and the fact that they get most of their grip from downforce, basically means they gotta go fast yeah? This is a damp track, in Belgium. Tires are cold, and to warm them up seems like quite a bitch of a thing to do. Sooo, any method to warm tires beforehand for these exceptional machines...?

Vietare le termocoperte è da geni...poi si parla di sicurezza!
I have a little theory and I could be wrong. I think Ferrari had to go for hard tyres as they possibly found that the medium and softs don't last two stints. Which was a problem on the previous races. While Toyota were using mediums and softs in the same conditions. Trying to activate hard tyres in track temps about 5-10C is incredibly difficult. This would explain why the Ferrari was slower than LMP2 and GTE at the start of the stint. What do you guys think?
There's no Hard for Michelin in here?...
Why was tyre blankets removed?
Because there are always idiots who make decisions... people that never ever drove a racing car...
I the environment and stuff but is maybe a tiny enviromental benefit worth much more dangerous outlaps and in just cooler weather?
What's the point of removing the tyre blankets in the first place? This is one of the most professional racing championships in the world, which entails everything should be on par with their status as professional racing. Who in his/her right mind would think drivers don't need tyre blankets for slicks that require certain temperature to function properly? Is it beneficial to greater safety? Is it conducive to more intense battle? Or is it a more sensible choice as compared to using blankets? I believe none of those questions could be satisfactorily answered by it. So, unless for the sake of manufacturing cheap unpredictability, which only casual "fans" would appreciate, there is no reason for such a rule change. It's always been said that media coverage would tarnish the professionalism and delicacy of sporting events, which is happening to WEC right now (and other championships), which is simply sad.
Most series don't use them.

Good job FIA...years fighting for safety and now this...for what ?
And for all those who say that 'in Indycar and Nascar they run without tyre blankets', know that those cars and, more importantly, those tyres, are designed specifically for that regulation.
Racing them in those conditions is pure madness...or stupidity....

crazy that the car must be going well over 150kph when this happened. at just 670hp, it's not like these cars are monsters. just shows how undriveable cold tires are. they aren't allowed to have tire warmers, but what's stopping them from using heat guns, or storing the tires in an oven then? I think this new hypercar class is really putting on display how much modern racing drivers have grown to rely on assists/trac control/abs/stability management. It feels like this is the first prototype class in a while to have taken some of these assists away and really bite back HARD when the driver makes a small error. Dont get me wrong, I'm sure these cars are incredibly complex and have lots of systems in place to help it out, its not like a freaking 60's lemans prototype or anything. But it really does seem much more of a difficult class to handle than previous dpi and lmp, I can imagine how hard it'd be with cold tires, no abs, in the rain. But I think the prototype drivers from the 50's-90's would be laughing at how hard a time these drivers are having handling them. Its sad so many cars seem to have been destroyed this race. Long beach had a lot of carnage in the hypercar class too.
The difference is that today's prototypes are made to be driven smoothly. They are so complex and precise they don't tolerate agressive corrections, while with a 60s prototype you can literally 'drift' over a whole corner without big consequences
@@zohery-ismaelrakotoarisolo908 Thats a good point, I notice the margin for error seems a lot smaller now. Definitely not discrediting what these drivers do. I guess I'd describe it as the cars being more twitchy. Like someone likes to say: That was a sudden loss of talent.
FIA apparently wanted teams to save thousands for tyre warming but let them lose millions for totalled cars. It was a problem for entire weekend, causing for example Ferrari no.21 GTE being destroyed beyond repair. The speed differentials between the car with changed tyres and those at normal race speeds were enormous - I can hardly recall more dangerous rule change than this one. Some cars were running notably slowly for two laps, if not more.
