      I thought he looked great in preseason as well. And played well for a rookie getting thrown into the fire. Throwing 4 TDs in a game isn’t something to just gloss over, he balled out towards the end of last year 👍🏾

      Did everyone just forget this dude was putting up 30 to 35 points every pre season game, any other rookie who preformed that well would have/should have got the chance to start. That first start against the chargers josh sabotaged him, when he finally did get the start he only got better. Those last 5 games, only one turnover come on!!!

    O'Connell is being given the Brock Purdy treatment by the self-appointed experts. They'll continue to be overly critical of his game no matter how well he does. Since they didn't find him, they will assume that any of his successes will be either luck, or the credit will go to someone else the same way they did that to Brock Purdy. Many of these same East coast elite sports writers are still saying that the 49ers would have won the SB if they'd have had 'better' QB play. Theyre just too egotistical to admit they didn't see him coming. AO12 will have a solid, if not excellent, season and a long, productive career. This is based on his history of walking on at Purdue as the 8th QB on the depth chart, then proceeding to take Drew Brees's name completely out of their record books. Expect nothing less with the Raiders. I don't.

      Difference between Brock Purdy and AOC is the stats that prove your point only reason AOC won games is cause of a defensive turn around. AOC didn't throw a single 300 yard game thr entire time even the so called famous 4 touchdown game. How many QB win games throwing 9/21 with 0 TD I'm going to say not many. What you sating just makes Brock Purdy story seem even better cause AOC got selected at a higher pick and preforms better game to game and more consistently.

    Not sure if O’Connell is long term future, but expect him to take nice step forward this year. He demonstrated poise, leadership and clutch skills in his rookie year. Arm isn’t elite and he will occasionally look bad when he can’t escape pressure, but he can learn to move in the pocket once he gets used to speed of game. People sleeping on this kid! That said, he’s learning new offensive system, so have patience Raider fans!!

    If he has fine tuned his pocket awareness, he'll be dangerous. He's accurate and has a strong arm. If they stay patient with him, he could be really good. It also depends on the rest of the team. No quarterback can carry a football team on his own.

  • @patrickhill2258
    @patrickhill2258 Před dnem

    I can’t speak for anyone else, but as for Me AOC12 gives the Raiders the best chance to compete for the division and even more.
    He reminds me of a young Eli Manning.
    Does he NEED to get better? YES!
    Will he get better? Eli did and beat the Goat twice.
    It’s puzzling that Vegas still has him as a betting under dog to be QB1 week 1, and that the Nation is so divided.
    To me Minshew is a very good journeyman and a solid security blanket, nothing more than that.
    Aidan needs to take the next step early in camp and solidify himself as “him”.

  • @ScottOsborne
    @ScottOsborne Před 2 dny

    I want AOC to succeed. He has a lot of things going for him: He’s resilient. I saw improvement in his accuracy toward the end of the season. He’s got a quick release. He seems to learn from his mistakes. He appears to have gained the trust of players and coaches. He showed flashes of being able to connect with Devante, Jakobi, and Tre on deep routes.
    That being said, if he gets the starting nod over Minshew, he’s going to struggle at times. His lack of mobility in the pocket is my biggest concern for him. When the pocket breaks down, he hasn’t yet shown the level of athleticism needed to buy extra time and make a play like Minshew does. And they both tend to make mistakes when making decisions under duress.
    I’m predicting that AOC gets the nod over Minshew because of potential upside. But the growth and progression that we all hope for as Raider fans is not going to come in OTAs, it’s not going to happen in training camp, and it’s certainly not going to happen in a preseason game. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen from making mistakes (and learning from them) in real games. That means he’s going to struggle at times this season, and we as Raider fans just need to accept it. Don’t have unrealistic expectations. Don’t buy into all the offseason hype.

  • @The_Fantasy_football-Master

    I really liked AOC last year. As things speed up for him year I think he will move better in the pocket. What most people don't know is he runs a 4.6 40 yd dash which is faster than Mahomes 4.8

    • @jameshannagan4256
      @jameshannagan4256 Před 2 dny +1

      They both ran a 4.7 at the combine but I do agree if you watch his tape from college (which it seems that almost no Raider fans did) especially an entire game , he moved around in the pocket pretty well. He's not elusive like Mahomes is but he scrambled pretty well too.

      @GrimRaider666 Před 2 dny +1

      They're struggling reports are based off the OTAs where Minshew and O'CONNELL were struggling qt the time. But like Adams said it's practice, that's the time when you want to get mistakes out the way. But their take on O'Connell now is based of what orevious okayers, currents okayersandciaches have said. Their takes equal what's said plus their own opinion, so technically their minds have been made up. It's not their fault you don't understand how journalism works.

    I like O’Connell. Unfortunately, there’s really no way of getting around the fact that he can’t create with his feet. He started to compensate toward the end of last year by getting rid of the ball faster. Which helped. But it also led to inconsistency. It’s difficult in todays NFL for any strictly pocket QB to be effective when you’re lining up in shotgun on 83% of your snaps. The o-line would need to be a pass pro juggernaut (which the raiders do not have) & the offensive scheme would need to be tailored to O’Connell specifically (no idea what Getsy has planned). I hope he does well. But Minshew is a gamer & has the ability to evade some pressure. We’ll see. But I think the raiders will be relying heavily on that defense as they did the last 9 games of last season.

  • @roblockhart6104
    @roblockhart6104 Před 2 dny

    Wish AO12 didn't have to learn a whole new offense. Ideally, he should've sat out his rook season. Regardless, it's hard to build on whatever progress may have been made, even if just timing or the game slowing down, when having to learn a new playbook under a new OC that wasn't even the organizations first choice. Call it consistency, call it the 'Aaron Rogers' or 'Patrick Mahomes' path to success. Unfortunately, AO12 hasn't had much of that since being called on early to start, but I do like glimpses of what I saw. Best case scenario, we have the next Kurt Cousins. Worst case, the next Andrew Walters.

      He ran a 4.7 at the combine the same 4.7 that Mahomes ran. He's not insanely elusive like Mahomes but if any of you armchair GMs would have watched any of his games from college you would know he moved around pretty well in the pocket and did a fair amount of scrambling too because his o-line wasn't very good. I'm not trying to say he's going to be a good pro QB because I don't know but neither does anyone else. The coaching staff seems to like him and they know a hell of a lot better than you guys who keep saying he sucks when you never even watched him play a game in college. Rookie QBs usually suck it doesn't mean shit, in fact he was pretty good for a rookie who had no reps as a starter and switched coaches and wasn't even supposed to play. I'm pretty sure the staff used a truncated offense with limited reads and he didn't have the ability or the option to scan the field and throw to whoever he wanted to. I expect him to struggle a bit early because he's already learning a new offense in his 2nd year. I'm 59 and have watched a lot of football and I think he has a good arm and he's accurate, what I don't know is does he have the brains to make fast reads because that will make or break any QB in the NFL.
