- We tried 14 of the best cookies in New York and decide once and for all which one is THE BEST COOKIE IN NYC. Is it Levain? Schmackary's? City Bakery? City Cakes? Something else? Time stamps for each bakery we visited are below...

A few additional thoughts and notes:
1. We stayed in Manhattan. We didn't consider bakeries in the outer boroughs. Feel free to mention those in the comments and we'll check them out in another video.
2. We only considered bakeries that are ONLY available in New York. So no chains. This also disqualified Insomnia, which is an honorable mention. They're great, but you can get them in a lot of places across the country now, and we thought the cookies on our list should be worth coming to New York for.
3. This video was NOT sponsored. We paid for every cookie. None of the bakeries knew what we were doing. All opinions are our own.

Levains! Although we didn’t comprehensively test them like you guys - we loved the Milk & Cookies choc chip cookie, and the Dominique Ansell cookie shot. But Levains was the best for us - we went back on our final day in NYC and bought cookies for our flight home (to Australia!)

I know exactly what you mean. We actually filmed over 45 minutes of footage for this video. I tried to cut out as much fluff as possible and it still ended up being 17 minutes. Glad you felt like it wasn't too much talking. :) -Brian

The sugardoodle and gingersnap looked to die for. As did the oatmeal raisin cookie from Levain although you guys didn't try that one. Off looks alone they probably would have been my top picks. I love a buttery brown sugary oaty cinnamon spicy kinda cookie. Especially when it's soft and warm.

I remember watching this video years ago and I recently tried to search for it again after watching a bunch of bakery crawls. It then came up on my recommended today, and I am so happy! Fast, to the point, and I feel like I am living vicariously through you guys.

Perfect Little Planet Definitely MOMA and you could easily do another one of the MET. The Guggenheim and The New York historical society museum would be cool. I'm not a big fan of the natural history museum (I thought it was boring) but maybe you could spark my interest!! I've heard the Morgan library is pretty neat too.
The Guggenheim is constantly rotating (haha, get it?) so it'd be hard to shoot a video like this which has a permanent collection. But the museum itself is a work of art so that alone would be cool. I haven't been to the Historical Society museum or the Morgan Library, so I'll definitely have to check those out. As for the Natural History Museum, it's my wife's favorite, so maybe I'll have her shoot that one because her enthusiasm is contagious. :) Thanks for the ideas! -Brian

I feel like my husband and I go to all the same places and lots of late night stops at Insomnia (which I’m glad you explained/included in the description!). My favorite is probably Schmukary’s or Levain. I’ve never heard of City Cakes but I work close by so I’m stopping by tomorrow! I’m also intrigued by the Reserve Cookie now too (we usually get the babka like you guys!). You should totally do this with ice cream and cupcakes/cake too. So many good options in the city!!
Same! We lived near Insomnia, Levain, and Milkbar, so we always went there when we wanted a sweet treat. The whole reason we did this video was so we had an excuse to try all the ones we never normally eat. This would be so fun to do with cupcakes and ice cream!! Great idea. :) Enjoy!!

Regina George I’m with you. I use to be able to eat AND enjoy “fad” foods without the agging thought of “oh my gosh, this is going to make me fat” or something along the many lines of “i’ve probably gained so many pounds from this.” i’m now to the point where i feel guilty for trying to enjoy food and eat foods in general, i need help. i miss being able to eat foods that i want/enjoy without constantly thinking about how it’ll affect my body 😕

We are heading back over the pond to NYC in December and having heard so many good things about Levain's, you guys have just stealed it for me.
Last time we were in NYC, we have a cheesecake cone and it was the greatest thing I've ever eaten so I'm going to hunt for those again as well.

We got them from a cart outside Gansevoort Market in the Meatpacking District but having looked them up online, Zabar's on Broadway sells them so that's where I'm heading. Maybe it was their cart that was at the market? The cone sounds the same - caramel almond.

This is an amazing video! I love all the different cookie shops you both went and visited to determine the best Cookie's in NYC. I have to say out of all 14 shops you went too, I have to go with Schmackary's Funfetti Sugar cookie, I'd have to rank that my favorite, It'll definitely be on my list to visit next time I'm in New York, That cookie just looked incredibly amazing, And if I'm not mistaken, I don't think we even have a cookie shop around Nashville, TN that has anything remotely close to a Funfetti Sugar cookie and if we do it's probably nothing like what New York has.. But I will say my Number 1 ultimate favorite cookie of all time is "Oatmeal Raisin" they're just the best, I can't ever get enough of them. Great video, Love this! Oh my gosh, that ginger snap (: should be called a ginger bend) cookie looked a-mazing! I live in Madrid and the folks aren't so into cookies here like that, therefore the best place to get a cookie here is at Starbucks or to make it yourself. But I sure know some places I want to visit if I'm ever passing through NYC. What a fun video.

I am a NY’er and I have never tried Levain but will def add it to the list (along with all your other wonderful suggestions). Thank you for all of your videos - they really are so entertaining and helpful🙏. Any recommendations for the best burger in NYC? (my wife and I have a cheat day coming up and we are both dying for a fantastic cheeseburger in NYC. We have yet to find one that is superb. Honestly, our favorite burger isn't a secret in New York. It's shake shack. But if you want a "secret" one that is delicious that you may not have tried, go for Burger Joint in Le Parker Meridien hotel. It's hidden in the lobby, but I trust you can find it.

I am so impressed that you could handle all those cookies and not feel grossed out. I guess it would help if you could split it with someone. But they must cost five to $10 apiece. Yeah, we split the cookies and we filmed this over the course of a week, so it wasn't too bad. :) I don't think we could have eaten this many cookies in one day. And they weren't quite that expensive. Most were $3-4 each. -Brian
My top three starting with my favorite is the first one (Maman-nutty CCC with macadamia nuts, the milk shot, and the large ginger snap. I might light the blue berry one but it might remind me of a blueberry muffin.
Good choices. Have you tried all of those or are you just basing it off of the video? I feel like the blueberry cookie was denser than a muffin, so it didn't remind me of a muffin at all. -Brian

Perfect Little Planet After two weeks in NYC of cookie tasting my favourite was Ovenly’s Salted Peanut Butter and my husband’s was Levain’s dark choc peanut butter. Thanks for the recommendations (and calories 😜)
So many thoughts on this video...first it’s absolutely genius to do cookie sampling. What a fun way to spend a day(s)! Gotta weigh in...LeVain, hands down wins for most photogenic and also my #1 pick followed by the blueberry & the gingersnap. . So sweet to see Kai but you realize when he’s old enough you will hear about doing this when he’s too young to partake. I suppose you could make cookie sampling a new family tradition though, right? For shame, I've only eaten two of these (Levain and City Cakes). That City Cake cookie, I ate over 4 days. It's so dense and huge!
Each time I visit NYC, I bring back Levain cookies for everyone. Even 2 or 3 days old, just microwave them for 30 seconds and BAM! Still unbelievably yummy.

We talked a long time about whether or not to include Insomnia on this list. We ultimately decided against it just because we wanted to keep it local to New York and you can get Insomnia almost anywhere now. But you're right - they make a great cookie for sure. -Brian

Levains came to mind as soon as the video started i would've been shocked it there was a better cookie place in NYC as im a cookie monster myself😆 i also agree with the fact that their cookies are still the same days after retains that moisture the supermarket versions dont do going to the actual shop though great content keep grinding bro

My Pb cookie recipe is just sugar, Pb, and egg. Most of the older Pb cookie recipes are flour free.

One of myy favorites video this year 👍 I agree Levain is the best cookie in NYC. Now allow me to introduce my absolute best thing I’ve tried in NYC last summer, most people don’t know this, go to Chelsea Market, Creamline, ignore all those who’re having burgers there and just order a grilled peanut butter and jelly, This was the moment when I realized I have waisted my entire life eating fake peanut butter and jelly 😜

No it's a hybrid and it's AMAZING! I love snickerdoodles and I love sugar cookies so I LOVED the sugardoodle! You've got to try it. It's got the flavor of a snickerdoodle but with big sugar crystals on top! So good! -Brian

that ovenly pb cookie is straight peanut butter and sugar. you can make it at home so easy (ive done it) (dont do it youll eat too many and theyre way too dense for that baha)
Haha, when we make cookies at home, we try to only make half or even a third of the batter because we have no willpower and we end up eating everything we make within a few days. -Brian

Cute video. I almost did this exact tour myself last time in NY. I love City Baked. How do they get the cookies to remain so thick when baked? I wondered if they bake them in muffin top tins but the sides don’t appear to be pan touched. Any ideas how they achieve this peeps?

Certain batters do not spread out when baking - everything from the temp of the butter to the type of flour will effect how much a cookie spreads. They likely put a big ball down and let it bake just like that without flattening it at all.
