- A video featuring scenes from the metre gauge Chemin de Fer de La Baie de Somme in May 2024. An unexpected bonus on our visit was steam working on the steeply graded line from St.Valery sur Somme to Cayeux sur Mer on the last two days of our holiday. The first part of the video features the Haine St.Pierre loco, No.15, built 1922 working between the two towns. This loco is the most powerful on the railway and had no trouble with the steep climbs.
The second part sees trains working between St.Valery and Noyelles sur Mer with the following locos;
Cail No.2 built in 1889 which saw service for Peurto Rico Railways seen leaving St.Valery then crossing the salt marshes on the way to Noyelles.
The SCF Verney Diesel Railcar No. X-212 is seen approaching Noyelles and I assume this was pressed into service as an additional train due to the large numbers of visitors as was the diesel hauled train heading into Noyelles from Le Crotoy behind 1966 built diesel no.824, which ran on the Catalan railway network.
Buffaud No.3714 built in 1909 is seen leaving Noyelles with a train from Le Crotoy to St.Valery having run round the train in Noyelles. This loco was intended to run cab first when new, giving the driver maximum visibility as the lines on which it worked ran through many villages.
The final shot sees Cail No.2 leaving Noyelles with a train for Le Crotoy.
The video was filmed on the 9th and 10th.May 2024
Austin, A most enjoyable video with plenty of rock and roll from the locomotives as they exert their power in the idyllic landscapes. Hope you both enjoyed your holiday. Regards, John
Many thanks John, a very enjoyable break with the added bonus of steam on the line to Cayeux
Stunning footage from your trip to this beautiful location Austin. The performance of No 15 was something else.
Thanks very much Bob. We certainly enjoyed the performance from No.15, it was really special
Well done again Austin. Great shots from well chosen locations and a beautiful soundtrack. Take care - Chris
Many thanks Chris, it was an enjoyable week with the steam working on the steeply graded section the icing on the cake
Excellent . Great video and nice sound . Thank you Austin
Merci Maurice, I see from your channel that you have some fine videos from the CFBS which I will look at over the next few days
Excellent footage Austin and nicely planned out with some great locations and a great place for your holidays, cheers 👍
Thanks Nigel, yes it's become a favourite spot of ours over the years and not just because of the railway! Lovely area to visit
Excellent footage, Austin. Good choice of locations. Hope you enjoyed your holiday. Regards, Dave.
Many thanks Dave, an excellent time thank you, this area never disappoints
Magnifique, merci beaucoup
Merci Annie, je suis ravi que vous ayez apprécié la vidéo et merci d'avoir regardé
Great filming Austin, like the shots from the fields.👍👍
Many thanks David, glad you enjoyed the video
Excellent video Austin. Nice sounds from the locos. Great filming. Hope you had an enjoyable time. Best wishes C&A
Thanks very much, we had a great time especially once the weather improved for the last few days
Won-der-ful ! I am surprised I wasn't there. But I'll go soon, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing.
Many thanks Jean-Paul, it was a very pleasant surprise to find steam was working to Cayeux and the sun finally shone as well!
What a terrific sound that little green tank engine makes storming along. Also I love those carriages with the lowering windows and the verandas.
It's their most powerful loco and as you say, what a fantastic sound it makes. The coaches are certainly better than a Mk.2 coffin with defective air conditioning!
Super great video Austin :)
Many thanks Simon
Great video
Cheers, thanks very much
Great video Austin, looks like you had a great holiday away. Those French locomotives sure do sound nice as they’re working hard. Regards James
Thanks James, they do make a great sound and it was a real bonus to find steam running on the lesser used but steeply graded part of the line
Nice Footage there Austin of steam in France.
Cheers Andrew
Van stops in the distance ahead at 2:05and the driver gets out wearing a high viz vest and hurries across the crossing; was he supposed to be guarding the crossing or something, or was he chasing the train? He only just got there before the train. He appears in another shot later as well
Yes, he comes up from St.Valery to stop any traffic at the ungated crossing. He did leave it a little late in one of the shots!
