  • Note: See the Trail Dashboard at the end that gives detailed information about the Table Rock Trail, including how it scored on four difficulty components.
In November we traveled to South Carolina to tackle the state’s toughest and most scenic hike at Table Rock State Park. Located on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the park’s namesake, Table Rock, is actually the second highest peak within park boundaries - with nearby Pinnacle laying claim to the title of tallest. In addition to these two summits, the park encompasses over 3,000 acres including a nature center, picnic shelters, a lodge, and a campground complete with log cabins. Its lakes, streams, and waterfalls provide the perfect backdrop for the many miles of beautiful trails the park has to offer.

My sister and I did this hike yesterday. The guy in the gift shop at trail head showed us video from Sunday when Carrick Creek became a raging river PLUS the trail was a torrential river, as well! Said several hikers had to cross the creek waist deep. We saw nothing major as far as damage to trail, however. Gently sprinkled rain throughout day here and there.

Wow! It is amazing how a tiny creek can become a raging river with a downpour. Sometimes a gentle sprinkle can bring some cool weather, though. I hope you had a good time - that's a wonderful spot. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Great video. You should get some trekking poles. They make hiking much easier. Especially if you have knee troubles.

Done! That is indeed a great tip. Last Christmas we found poles under the tree. Thanks for the comment.

Actually, Sassafras Mountain is the highest mountain in SC at 3553 feet. Pinnacle Mountain is 3415 feet, Ceasar’s Head is 3215 feet. Table Rock is only 3124 feet. I would encourage you to hike the Foothills Trail 76.2 miles for a truly beautiful hike of SC.

Sorry for the confusion. We were only looking at peaks within the state park - not the entire state. Thanks for the clarification. That is very helpful and interesting data. And data that will likely inspire us to plan our next SC hike!
