Awesome classic game! I tried playing it last weekend and quickly realized how difficult it is. No worries though, I'm LOVING being able to play all these classic games again. Thanks for the video and I'll keep trying to clear that first level!
Hmm! Using the pickaxe just to scare the guards is great, I always used it to stun them but that's sort of a waste. You didn't do it here, but you can drop money bags down ladder shafts and stun guards. If you drop a bag on the sloped areas, it will roll down the hill and stun any guards. It was such an epiphany when I first learned you could ride in the mine carts!
I used to play this at Scott AFB, IL.Nobody could get off the 1st level except me and my friend Moe.We used to score 100,000+ regularly.Ppl used to gather around to watch us play because it was too hard for them to figure out.I don't remember how to get off the 1st level now ( haven't played since '84) but I remember it being easier than this. This is taking 4ever.
Playing the actual arcade version in the mid 80's (a Putt-Putt Golf & Games), my best two scores were 859,000 and over 1 million with a lot around 400K. The guards get so fast using the screen flipping trick to get them moved to a different place on the screen is a must.
Nice.... You showed me two things I never knew. I didn't know you could put down the axe and re-use it. Also I didn't know you could pick up bags while on the cart.
8:09 and on, brilliant strategy. I could never figure out how the guards decided whether to follow, or where they went when I moved from one screen to the next. I never completed the first level, even when I took a day off work and spent an entire paycheck on it! The wonderful non-profit Internet Archive's Internet Arcade lets you play this arcade game and others in your browser!
I was pretty good at arcade games, but this game was too hard, I never made it past the first level, until today I never saw anyone do it, I made it to the last bag more than once, but I always ran out of time.
There was a system...took many quarters but me and my friend Moe mastered this game scoring 100, 000 regularly...ppl used to watch us play and still couldn't figure it out
I remember this game allowed you to control the character a little bit while the game was in demonstration mode! Anyone else remember that? When I ran out of quarters I would wait for the demo mode.
Young me discovered Omega Race was partially playable in demo mode. Leave it to a quarterless kid to discover these things, eh? Maybe it was intentionally coded like that? Didn't cost any extra electricity, and enticed the kid to see what he could later do with an actual quarter...
I can remember playing this game at a local arcade back in the day. I played for over 2 hours on one quarter and made it to one million...and then the speed of the game suddenly slowed down. Loved these old arcade games.
I went from a ton of games around 400-500K then had this breakout game of 859,000 and a few days later got over 1M. Then all of a sudden, the game was converted to a Rock 'n' Rope. sigh. I was there when the tech guy was installing the new conversion board.
I got to the last bag and hit a guard but he got back up and killed me.I completely forgot about just chasing him.I should complete no problem now, thanks.
Impressive! How long did you spend playing this game before you finally completed level one? Bagman must be on the all time top 10 list of most difficult classic coin-op games. Nice work @JJJanez!
This is such a cool retro game!! I forgot how it was playing this back in the 80's growing up...is there a platform on ps2 on an anthology disc or stand alone?
You can play it online now. I can't remember what it was like back in the 80s when you got past the first round. But the version I play online now has each successive round exactly the same as round one. You get an extra man after every 40,000 pts. I can't seem to get a link for here. Try bagman zip in Google search window. Oh, and in my download anyway, when you click on it to play the game, it looks like nothing's happening for 1/2 a minute or more. You'll think nothing's going to happen. Then this red and blue progress bar pops up.
Me too while i was in the military.Me & my friend Moe used to compete against each other....consistently getting 100,000 when very few ppl could get off the first board....GOOD DAYS
lol. i played this game also for hours on 1 coin. 3rd street avenue D Manhattan in the 80's good old days. Wow! i was like 13. im 49 now. wow. what a flash back :)
Very nice that u managed to get to level 3.. I am like developing a good route for level 1, but only 1 little mistake and it doesnt work. I wonder if the McCloskey record is real...
Finally see it done after 32 years! Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Thanks!
I've thought of making this wisecrack; no don't go after the prisoner, I'm so glad this character has some remorse in his heart.
Responding to your comment after 7 years! Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Cheers!

Will the prisoner ever keep the treasure he stashed?
Plugged a lot of quarters into this game, happy 40th B-Day Bagman!

Never could beat Bagman. Good show of skill. 😁
I WAS SEARCHING THIS GAME FOR YEARS THANK YOUUUUU!!!!

This guy never did it here, but if you hold the wheelbarrow over a ladder, any guards climbing that ladder get knocked out if they reach it.
@@MorreskiBear That technique is a must for the higher levels.
Ah, this brings me back to my high school years from the mid 80's.

holy cow, no wonder why I never beat the first level.
Ha! I never noticed before that the pickaxe was like a scepter that made guards retreat! … Neato! 👍
I just learned that he's speaking French ...
That because its made by French game company Valadon Automation, But its manufactured by Stern Electronics in the U.S.

Nice work @JJJanez!
I don't know, but when you understand the pattern of the guards the game becomes doable.
@@JJJanez Yes. I got my score over 1 million in 1984 on the arcade version.
Love this game
SUCH A HARD GAME! AWESOME PLAY! :)
6:29 That was CLOSE!
It sounds to me like he's saying "Leaf, a-hupla"
Cutting it a little close at 6:30, aren't we? :)

C'était le bon temps des jeux d'arcade.
The guard looks a little bit mario from donkey kong. hmmm🤔🤔🤔
His cousin français, peut-être?
Took me one day to get the first level done. Very hard game. How about showing us level two done? I am gonna try :)
Did you ever have any luck with level 2? I realize this was posted 10 years ago, but time IS just an illusion after all. :-/
Such a memory.
I only watch to hear Aya-Aya
This game reminded me of Spelunker from NES.

We've had a lot of success so far, is there something funny going on?

C64 version is actually better than the arcade, called Bagitman

You can emulate it with MAME, or you can play it on archive.org
This was an arcade game.
