Season Three, Episode Two - 28 Mar. 1982
When Arkwright finds himself with a surplus of Jamaican Ginger cakes he tries various marketing ploys in order to sell them off but hits the jackpot when he claims that the cakes contain drugs, which has the customers fighting to get at them. - Zábava
Something about this show.. it’s the atmosphere.. the crisp mornings, serene nights, simplicity, music and nature of people and their voices.. the whole bundle is warm and cozy .. home-like.. I can’t resist the idea of watching each episode .. endlessly….
It, too, reminds me of where I grew up. Cold misty mornings, coming home from school to watch TV while eating my tea 😊
The turned up noses among all of the women was so very clever when it comes to the casting department for that BBC series. Not to mention Awkrighht's frequent mention of his West Indian produce in that characters lines too.
I know exactly what you mean Hana. Of course the characters are exaggerated for comic effect but the atmosphere and vibe of the time feels real. I was last in England in the mid 90's and experienced a more modern Britain but it was still very British. Hopefully it's still like that now, 30 years later.
Beautifully put, dear. 😊
I suffer from the exact same gripping Nostalgia😊. Stick the transistor Radio on, and the whistle kettle on the stove, make a pot o tea, and a couple of crumpets, with marmite, and put another shovel of coal on, and cozy up round the kitchen table, with it's plastic gingham Tablecloth. It's so British. I miss bread and dripping, and hot roasted Carlins, and Piccalilli on freshed boiled ham, and slices of fresh white crust that were still warm and melted the butter. And me Nannas mint imperials, 💚
Watching Open all hours is like putting on your favourite slippers and sitting in front of an open fire. Pure comfort and nostalgia the antidote for the horrors we face today.
Well said my friend.
And a havan from political correctness! That is why it's funny!🤔
Pleasant memories of living in good old-fashioned England on autumn days
Chilly mornings, a little corner shop and true community spirit
I miss those days 😪
My dad and I still do the gggg ginger cake skit...ah but is it jjjj Jamaican gggg ginger cake ❤😂
These stores used to be everywhere supplying the public with everything they needed for the weekly shop and were run by friendly shopkeepers who would give credit to loyal customers and have a chat about the weather and stuff marvellous times of a bygone era
These old comedy shows are a geat escape from crazy 21st centary!!
Yes they really are, we only have them to look back on.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The good old days before the world descended into madness
@@SamuelBlack84 post 2000 it accelerated south starting with P.C/Woke b.s!
@@MAte925 Plus, I conducted a Satanic ritual to bring about vengeance against the world
So, there's also that 😁
True . Problems they had not longer exist. What's left is just laugh.
My grandparents lived in the back of a grocery store they ran in New Orleans in the '50's thru the '70s. I enjoyed helping them with the stocking and even ran the register on occasion. I miss those days, as well as my grandparents.
Was the register as scary as the register on the show lol
Nothing better than Grandparents...
What a great memory to have
Understand totally how you feel about those days. Growing up with loving memories and grandparents, such blessings
According to the producers the till was slammed shut by 2 guys pulling on a string. Ronnie B had to be on his toes to ensure he left every evening for home with the same number of digits as he started the day. Wouldnt be allowed today.
The food cabinet in the kitchen of this series is the same as my mother had in her kitchen…fabulous …no fitted kitchens in those days…and I loved it. I had never seen a dish washer.and our stove had a grill for toasting ….How I wish we could bring back this kind of comedy……No dirty language….What a mess we have become…..
With you 😊
Thankfully we can still watch this show now in 2024.
My lovely, now passed, father in law had a corner off licence in Bolton, Lancashire that is the total copy of “Open All Hours”, even down to the moustache and “till that bites”. Wonderful memories of him and my mother in law, running the shop. In winter they would have crates of Guiness in front of the kitchen coal range to keep warm, just like the customers liked them!!
Just hearing the intro tune, makes me sad with nostalgia and happy at the same time
And last of the summer wine....music...pure Hovis..lol
I’m 21but I love this show RIP RONNIE BARKER, you are one of the greatest actors of all time , no one will top your amazing acting
Its gold for all ages :) , Did you make it to 25?
you do know there is now still open all hours
“And once they cross that doorway....I’ll ‘ave ‘em!!” 😂😂

Who else thinks that as you are getting older mid 30-40s your slowly turning more and more into Arkwright 😂😂
🤣
Think woman in this store was later in "Doc Martin" English series.
@@joancurran4897 I love that when you see a character from somewhere else , I saw Ronnie in another series with Mrs.Buckets (keeping up appearances) neighbour :)
I don’t mind. I find him quite funny anyway. 😃
@@DILLIGAS-GAMING I don't think that Ronnie Barker was ever in Keeping Up Appearances, I'll have to check that one out 🤔
I would love to go back and live in 1982 once more it was a lot nicer then.
I wouldn't know. I was only born two years later
Yes it's was a better time,,but we only have the time we live in to live, try to enjoy it darling, it's all we have.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not really , I went to the Falklands....

Woodbines! Superb. Nothing on TV these days in the same class.
"Well done and you certainly have been" epic Awrkright you crafty begger 😂
I used to watch this when I lived at a residential care home. It gave me comfort, and I love watching Ronnie Barker in this. He’s so hilarious.
I hope your comfort stayed with you. xx
As an employee or resident?
I doubt anyone escapes after becoming a resident. They call them 'God's waiting room'.
I still watch them over and over, i just love Ronnie Barker!!!!!
how i wish we had stores like this today. such a treasure
jessie james Me too..
Supermarkets are so tedious and impersonal.
We do.
I guarantee the perso n who wrote this comment complained the last time their supermarket didn't have stock of every product under thr sun, then they let nostalgia tell them that shops likr these were the good old days smh. People like the idea of old things,, but the reality would be a shock
@@gzmanuk It was nice to have a little store within walking distance to about everybody though,
Just heard the sad news today that Lynda Baron passed away yesterday 7/03/2022.
May your soul rest in peace and thank you for all the laughters and memories Nurse Gladys Emmanuel
Arkwright will be waiting for you Gladys and finally get married in heaven.
I remember she had a childrens show, and she had a dog called Pippin, that she used to take everywhere with her.
I bought some Jamaican ginger cake and woooooo... It changed my life.
😂😂😂
Have you tried Queensland ginger cake? Speciol
Good sense of humour we don't see today. The English make great comedy's shame good comedy classics only exist on CZcams and not on tv today. rest in peace Ronnie Barker, this show had two talented people who made us laugh.
This show is regularly on tv in Britain.
I miss these Cutie Pie little stores......They don't hardly exist anymore.
Reminds me of my old local pie shop
Great smells and cosy atmosphere
Now, it's a pizza takeaway 😢
@@SamuelBlack84 yep...exactly.😊
Absolutely love this. Reminds me of the north when I was a lad and Britain was British. Sweet nostalgia!

Oh gosh. Absolute delight. Had kind of forgotten what old British comedy was like. Thank you so much. ❤❤
I love it when Granville does the impersonations! David Jason can really do voices.

I grew up in a corner store..we knew everyone and we where open all hours...because we lived there we often got woken for milk and ciggaretts.I loved it and we even peeled the potatoes for some.Huge wheels of cheese and huge slabs of butter.Christmas saw cooked ham and turkey you could buy as many slices as you wanted it was a good childhood.
But did you have gergergenuine Jajajamaican Gergerginger cake?
Barbara-Louisa walker - lucky you, sounds nice
It's sounds amazing...I'm jealous, but sadly I fear it's a bygone way of life... really sad, they were simpler but happier days,

My favourite episode of Open all Hours - fabulous script and acting of par excellence ❤
This is one of my very favourite episodes of the series the gentle flirting that goes on between Julie and Granville is just delightful another example of great acting and writing thank you for uploading it
This definitely is one of my favourite episodes. Just love the way he cons everyone about the ginger cake. I've brought it for years more than 57p. These two are perfect foils bouncing of each other lovely to watch and even after all this time it's still fresh and very funny. 😂😂😂😂😂🎭🎭🎭🎭📻📻📻📻📻📻
I found one in our local shop reduced recently so of course i bought it that ginger cake wow !!!
@@JamesWho1 I always feel like a lottery winner when I find nice things reduced. 😀
The ginger cake ! What wonderful series that is! Many thanks from California!
Still makes me laugh that line, “well done” you just have been !!!!
This is the best episode of open all hours! I absolutely love it! These guys were the best
My favorite episode of the whole series. Fantastic delivery of some of the best lines. Classic in every sense of the word.
I lived back door to a shop like this. They made their own pies and let me put the pie lids on under a press. Loverly memories.
They don't make comedy like that any more. Classic and quite beautiful
One of my favourite episodes, British comedy genius
Wowser's.... #OpenAllHours has a really specOl place in my heart ....a Sunday afternoon with a bit of #OpenAllHours and #SomeMothersDoAveEm ......and I am VERY happy lady. You know my niece asked to watch my box sets of them both once-over she'd never seen either of them before, and honestly I told her they were old fashioned and she probably wouldn't like them...BUT oh my word, she loved them thought they were hilarious.... even after all these years a young teenager laughed...not many shows can say that, but yep deffo my #Favourites 😊
I only discovered british sitcoms in old Hong Kong before the Net. Barker's arkwright role here turms sneaky and snarky into an art.
What an absolutely perfect production.
Still laugh when I see Ginger cake in the shops. G G G Ginger Cake! :)
just pure brilliant British whitt. ronnie barker you were one very gifted Tallented person. one of a kind. thank you for making me laugh so much. 👍
He was absolutely brilliant.
20.43 onwards has gotta be one of the funniest sketches ever in a sitcom,WOODBINES ! Classic, had me in stitches.
❤thank you Mr Ronnie and jason
I started out watching Frost with David Jason then we found Still Open All Night now we can watch the original! Brilliant!
You're going to be delighted when you find Only Fools & Horses 😊
The archetype of what comedy should be...
A crafty master and clever apprentice at play! Brilliant writing and great portrayal of the characters!
Brilliant. I have enjoyed open all hours many times. But I have been enjoying it as an audio. Which has really put an smile on my face. It's given more life into enjoying it even more. Thank you.👍👌
Wouldn't mind a bit of that ginger cake myself. There's always a laugh in every episode. The English make best comedy classics
Careful its not so old its a bit jeh-jeh-jeh ginger 🤣
They don't do them any more.
Jamaican G-G-Ginger cake 🤣🤣🤣
Early morning milk deliveries. Them were the days. The day that stopped, was the day this country went mad
Our town still has milk deliveries. I see the milk cart going about its business. It's way more expensive than the supermarket so people tend not to use it. But some still do. I see the bottles outside their front doors.
@@angelkotilainen Same in my town. Our Unigate milkman was actually a milklady, and I had a huge crush on her. I was a spotty teenager in them days. I'd always watch out for her on that whirring little milk float. I know there's still a milk delivery in the morning, the bottles at the door is a dead giveaway, but I honestly don't even know what company does it now.
Yes, as long as the birds didn't peck a hole in the top!
Yeah I miss the sound of a good old-fashioned milk cart driving by.
You could be right about that.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely lovely😅😅😅😅
8:37 "WellDone and u certainly have been"
Have you any solid grounds? that just begged that reply from Arkwright.
Always reminds me of my maternal grandfather with his store. He made no secret of overcharging each customer 50-70 cents. At the end of an 18 hour day he had his profit anyway! What a character......
The lady with the black coat and cap was casted in Doc Martin , she did the character of Aunty Joan brilliantly.
She was Dianna Trent (the leading role in WAITING FOR GOD) BRILLIANT ACTOR.
@@bsrlpar She is in the "Still open all hour" too..
Good morning Mrs. G-G-Gingercake, it's a nice G-Gingercake for the time of the year isnt it? well how's your eldest cake, is he still a bit g-g-g-ginger?
Comedy was so innocent and fun! Love every minute.
In south africa too. Our dairy made the best ice cream ever. Milk deliveries and the green grocery van were wonderful.
Favourite episode. Thx
I love watching these shows! ❤
Eternally fond of this beautiful series.
And not simply - I always maintain to my wife - because of the late and great Lynda Barron and the gorgeous Barbara Flynn.
The latter of whom I'd be forever happy to watch for hours, reading a telephone directory.
So many classic and clever lines, "It wasn't me that started giving the Hungarians the business, it was your mother"
He aint wrong on his theory to get them in the door!!
My bestest ever episode love it so much it makes me very laughable and enjoyable
So far series 3 has been really good! I'm working my way through the series and 1 and 2 were okay but 3 is really amazing :)
Brilliant love the bit at the end where they chase the guy down the street.
going straight is a good one to watch
just below the surface of hilarious comedy is a deep contemplation. There are the mundane things we do everyday and while we try to deal ,with them we dream...time passes. Granville and Arkwrght are trapped in the greedy little store conniving for pennies, conniving for love.
@EMINƎM yes its universal what we men strive for :)
@EMINƎM thanks pal, any time I need a laugh I can always count on Ronny Barker to provide me with plenty of them. He makes ya think sometimes too. Cheers !
I remember the milk carts that used to go around the neighbourhood back in the day, this show brings back memories. Classic comedy , no preaching but pure entertainment
This is one of my favourite shows of all time. It was amazing..Ronnie Barker was so talented.
Just think, at one point Ronnie Barker was doing Open All Hours, Porridge and The Two Ronnies. How did he fit it all in?
Genius that's the only explaination
And Sir David Jason wasn’t doing half bad himself
Dont u mean how did he f f f f f f fhh fhhh fhhh fit it in 🤣
Probably lots of caffeine I’m guessing.
Oh er missus
I love this show....I named my child of fur Granville...
was born in 1979 love all these, thank you
I love when in one episode Gordon Stackpool asks Arkwright for his money back
Ah, I'm not being offensive or rude, but G'day
I'm going great, how are you? And tne weather here at the moment is sunny, how's the weather where you are?, and I'm growing up with shows like this
I don't have a job, I'm a student, and I love Aussie accents
I love Only Fools and Horses, no I've neever been around Cardiff, but I'm going in July to the speedway gp, and i do maths, english, team building, employability, caring for children, role of the care worker, health and safety
you're not the full quid are ya son?
My favourite show - I love Ronnie Barker
As a kid in the seventies I loved our 'corner store!'. Chap who owned it, same brown jacket. Bag of crisps with the blue sachet of salt on the walk home from school with Mum. Happy days!. 🙂
Love were the bread man falls over the mower so funny
A true classic. And the 21st century revival still provides some hearty ch-ch-chuckles :)
Still Opan All Hours is cack without Ronnie Barker. What on earth was David Jason thinking?
Since I had never watched these shows and I only discovered still open all hours last year on PBS. I love that show. And today I found these original shows I like both versions. Can't get over how young Granville is and that full head of hair. He was cute when he was young.
Love it when it starts with Barbara Flynn. Makes me go all weak. Sigh.
This kind of England is long gone. Very sad.
That nurse hmm wow 😍😍😍😍❤❤😍
Thanks for the upload. Love it.
Love how he takes the mick out of the nurse’s Mum and granvels Mum lol
Before the British were terrified to be proud to be British. 😞
It was so well written wasn't it? And id forgotten how brilliant the main characters were. I wish Councils had helped small businesses keep thriving in local communities more. They provided a much healthier and happier social environment for kids families and especially the elderly than supermarkets and raitail parks do.
I'd love to have seen Ronnie Barker do a character in Only Fools And Horses
I've used some of Arkwrights comments back in the day. They worked like ginger cake.
That was great. Yesterday, I also watched an episode of Chance in Million with Simon Callow. Thank you for uploading
Lol he made a face at miss featherstone when she turned around
Hahahaha!!! I love that look at 0:57 tho! Lmao, SO hysterical, I fell out
All gone now but all good clean fun ,who needs smut to make you laugh 😂😂
It's the sedate, uncomplicated way of life.....
one of Britain's great!
The Jamaica ginger cake bit is the sequence I quote most often from Open All Hours. The reverse psychology. "I'm sorry, but I can only let you have one!" "...one what?"
thumbs up just had to watch this again , cheeers
Reminds me so much of a time I was a student, popping around to the corner shop to buy a loaf and tin of beans for beans on toast. Cheap and filling meal. 😊😊😊😊.
