- Cooking sticky rice, using a rice cooker. No need to pre-soak the rice with this cooking method...
*You might want to use less water if you prefer it to be less sticky* Use 2 cups of rice to 1 cup water ratio!**
Works great if you pay attention to instructions. czcams.com/users/postUgkxviiltW7NlHbp_VL_bLbIkbLAvILVhnia For those that complain about "mushy" or "wet" rice I suspect they are using the included cup to measure rice (which is really only 3/4 cup) and then putting in water using a separate measuring cup that is a full cup. This results in too much water and you will get mushy or wet rice and think it is not done. Just use the included cup for both rice and water, or your own measuring cup for rice and water according to your package directions. It will come out fine. I've used mine for years for brown and white rice. If your machine is bubbling white froth out of the steam vent then it means you should have rinsed your brand of rice first to remove some of the starch. Sheesh. Makes me wonder how people can cook well enough to feed themselves.
Thanks for watching my video! 💕
Thank you for this great video! I love how you jump right into it! Thanks!

I rinse and then soak the sweet rice, (Three Rings brand) for about one or two hours, then mix it with rinsed but not soaked Jasmine rice, 50/50 mix, with about the same rice/water ratio that you use. Comes out of the cooker great every time.
Thanks for watching! The consistency of the combined rice after it's cooked is like sticky rice correct? If so, I shall definitely try cooking it that! Thanks for sharing!! ❤
Yes, the consistency is very much like steamed sticky rice, (if you get it right), along with the flavor from the jasmine rice. Give it a try. Also I can't wait to try some of your recipes. Thank you for your channel. @@KrazyKATRecipes
@@urankjj awesome! I will definitely try it! Thank you!
it works, used slightly lesser water than white normal rice, but i soaked 1+ hour first.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the suggestion... will definitely try it!
If you spray the inside with your choice of non sticking cooking spray I prefer coconut spray it’s literally a dollar from dollar tree then cook the rice it comes out the pot perfect every time!
Thanks for watching! I'll have to try it with cooking spray! Thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah,I am looking forward to fun. Now for the mangos....
I've read two recipes, one from Koda Farms (Sho-Chiku-Bai Sweet Rice) and another from another website; both said to use 1 cup rice to 1 1/4 cup water (or 2 cups rice to 2 1/2 cups water). I'm cooking some this way now, I'll let you now how it turns out. Thanks for your videos.
I tried this way and it was too moist for my taste, trying again with less water
That Smile it's moist and softer then the traditional way of cooking it... it'll probably take you several tries before you get it to be the consistency you like... :-)
Thanks you so much for your video 🙏
Never try to make in the rice cooker before…now I can 👌
I still prefer cooking it the traditional way but, yeah give this method a try! Thanks for watching my video! 💕
Thank you for making this video! I've been looking everywhere to see if you actually can cook sticky rice in a rice cooker, since most the tutorials for Sticky Rice and Mango are made in a stove top steamer. Thank you! Would you recommend using less water than the amount of rice you have? Or and equal amount?
Thanks for watching my video judiroo1! I would recommend using less water but then again not every rice cooker cooks the same... you'll just have to experiment with it a couple of tries before you get it to the consistency you like.. :-)
I love sticky rice with fried salted fish and freshly grated coconut.. 😋
I love sticky rice with salted fish too!! Thanks for watching!
I'm from Nagaland and we cook sticky rice that way only so it's not new to me.. well Im surprised that people do steam it rather than cooking and that's something new to me and I really need to try it once.😀
Thanks for watching! I personally prefer the steam version and would only cook sticky rice using this method when I forget to soak the rice overnight! 🙂
I just cooked my three ladies brand sweet rice and it came out perfect. Its not gooey at all. Now I'm ready to make Korean dessert yaksik. So happy. Thanks.
Joanne Park ... thanks for watching and giving it a try! :-)
Finally a better and easier way to make sticky rice! !!!!I've been making my sticky rice the the hard way where I had to do it in intervals
This is good to know. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Haha good omg I have contemplating on trying this method. TY for doing a video on it. Going to go use it now haha
Thanks for watching! I hope it will turn out good. I still personally prefered cooking sticky rice the traditional way. 🙂
@@KrazyKATRecipes Yeah I tried doing 2 cups and it didnt turn out the way like the traditional way. So I didnt waste it and ended trying to steam it the other way to save it
@@y3r86Lo sorry that it didn't turn out... some have better luck with this method, I think it's due to the brand of rice cooker they have. With mine it cooked it but it was too soft and too sticky that is why I prefer to cook it the traditional way...
Second time I tried this it was SOO sticky I could hardly get it off my fingers. I found it quite bad, but, I did accidentally do it when I meant to make jasmine rice & it came out perfect. (My husband was surprised, he's from Laos & the basket is "THE ONLY WAY"...he said,"it's okay, still doesn't have that 'authentic taste' you get from the basket". Men. Lol. Shouldn't have told him. He would've thought I did it the 'hard way'. ;) Still not sure what happened. I've been making rice for 12+ years now & intentionally, it came out terrible, I can only think I used too much water. (Since it's supposed to cook using steam...) will try again w less water. I did soak it this time. We'll see. 👍
hi thanks for watching my video. I personally prefer the traditional way of cooking it because it does taste and smell better using a bamboo basket. This method of cooking it in a rice cooker was just to try it out myself to see if it works without having to soak the rice over night. Although it does cook it, I agree with you that it's way too sticky. I've since discovered after I made this video that once it stops cooking, let it sit on Warmer mode for 20 minutes or so to allow it to finish up cooking any uncooked rice. But then again, I think since everyone has a different brands of rice cookers, cooking time might be different..
Thank you for the video. My rice cooker, (similar to one in video) tends to almost burn, (brown and crunchy). Any ideas?
Thanks for the watching! I haven't mastered this cooking method so I can't really suggest what caused that. You can try adding a bit more water to it, but then again adding more water will make the rice more stickier too like it did for me. 😞 I'm actually not a fan of this cooking method anymore since I can't seem to perfect it so I just went back to cooking sticky rice the traditional way. 🙂
Greg Harrison more water
Really? This is awesome! I always use the traditional way.
Dis you use the reg rice function on the ipot.?? Low. Med. High heat. Mine has all those confusing options im unsure of how to use yet. Thank you for sharing also 👏👏✌️👏👏
👍
I don't have an ipot so I don't know if it will work. If you try it and it works please let me know! Might just invest in getting one! :-)
Thank you for sharing I was told to try it but never had until now
Thanks for the video! I will try this method for sure!
Thanks Kat
Thanks for watching!
I use your recipe to make sticky rice in the rice cooker and it was really yummy but can you please tell me if I can leave it in the cooker with the warmer on or take it out and how do I Store it in the icebox or can I leave it out and how long will it keep so sorry for all the questions but this is the first time I made this rice thank you again for sharing this recipe 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for watching! Glad you gave it a try... typically sticky rice is good for one day only if not kept in the rice warmer, so keep it on warmer. It should be eaten before rice turns yellowish in color.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 I New if I when to your channel I would see how to make it again thank you so much for sharing your recipes with us I am loving your recipes as you make them so we can understand them 💖
Going to try this, thank you! 🙏
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I tried this and trust me it was bomb
Thanks for trying this sticky rice cooking method and for the awesome feedback! 💕
Do you cook in your turbo cooker I see by your rice cooker? I have one too.
Thanks for watching! I used to use the turbo oven a lot but it's been replaced by my air fryer! 😍😍I use the air fryer almost every other day! 🙂
Hi! Amazing video, what brand of rice cooker do you have ?
thanks for watching my video! the brand is City Star model # CR-05.
hey it's sticky rice...it's supposed to be sticky...u eat this with Issan food, northeast and northern thailand...u use your hands to eat it...form some into a iittle round ball and dip into a sauce along with whatever u made to eat it with
this is not really Thai as it is short grain
what ratio is your rice cooker for regular or thai rice? Different rice cooker may use different ratio. 1:1 is most, but some are not such as the wal-mart.
Thanks for watching! When I cook regular rice (Jasmine) in this rice cooker it's a 1:1 ratio. The rice cooks perfectly every time! :-)
@@KrazyKATRecipes Thanks you. That was what I thought

Sawangchit Dunlap ... Thank you for watching! I'm originally from Laos. I'm dai lue (an ethnic group from northern Laos). :-)
Oh ok! Thanks for replying....
Good stuff! Was it sticky enough for sushi?
thanks for watching! I don't recommend it for making sushi... it's way too sticky!
Did you use the rice cookers measuring cup to measure out the rice and standard measuring cup for water?
Thanks for watching! I used the rice cookers measuring cup.
For both the water and rice? Ty!
@@elizabethhutson9767 yes, for both the rice and water. 🙂
It looks like you used a regular measuring cup for water, so I’m still confused. The red measuring cup Didn’t look like a nice cup

Have you tried it in jasmine sticky rice?
Thanks for watching my video Nkuajsuab! I haven't tried it with Jasmine sticky rice...
Did it work with Jasmine rice??
thanks very much...I though I was gonna need the Thai basket to cook this lol....
thanks for watching! This method of cooking sticky rice is just to show that it could be cooked using a rice cooker without having to soak it overnight... I personally like the traditional way of cooking it using the bamboo basket! :-)
okay I went to buy one thank you!!!! how long did you cook it for?
just let the rice cooker do it's job, once it's done cooking you will see that the rice did not cook thoroughly, just let it sit on "warm" for another 20 minutes or so til it's thoroughly cooked.
Mine always burns on the bottom how do I avoid that?
Cooking sticky rice using this method is still kinda tricky for me. It's usually too sticky for my preference so I still prefer cooking it the traditional way... As for yours always burning at the bottom, I guess you can try adding a little more water??
i am looking for a rice cooker ATM and the funny thing is i am constantly looking at this same exact one XD
it's working fine for me and I love it's so cheap! :-)
ThunderLaoKATng Great video! I had a couple of questions regarding the cooker...
1) What model is that?
2) How many cups of rice (uncooked) would it prepare at maximum?
3) Any problems with the cooker burning the rice around the edges (or other problems)?
4) Would you buy this model again...or try something different (different brand, different size, etc..)?
dgott7726 Hi sorry for such a late response, for some reason I'm just now seeing your comment...
The brand is City Star, model CR-05. This model can make 6 cups rice (uncooked). I have never had any problems with this brand, cooks my rice perfectly every time.. I only spent $23 bucks on it, and would definitely replace it with the same one if they still carry it! :-)
That's great I'm going to try it
Prasertsri Ciucevich ... thanks for watching! Different rice cooker cooks differently so you'll have to give this method several tries before you get the right consistency with the water and rice ratio! (others suggest after it finishes cooking, to let it sit on warm setting for another 10 to 15 minutes to get the right consistency)
Hey! sorry but I couldn't understand if the rice you used was already soaked? thanks!
Hi Sergey! Thanks for watching my video... the rice was not pre soaked. That's what's awesome about this method, just wash and cook it! :-)
ThunderLaoKATng thank you! Definitely have to try it :)
I love sticky Rice made in the traditional way. The rice you have cooked here looks a little gooey. :( To keep your rice from sweating out all the moisture store it ina plastic bag and wrap it in aluminum foil.
I agree, this method is gooey... i prefer the traditional way of cooking sticky rice too! :-)
ThunderLaoKATng possibly 1.75 cups of water, in place of 2, and a stir.
Is sweet rice ever sweet? I bought some sweet rice flour and made balls and boiled them. When I tasted them they tasted sweet and I added no sugar! Does cooking it longer allow this? I also boiled some sweet rice flour just by pouring it is and making a porridge and it was not sweet at all. I bought some sweet rice for the first time and I want to try cooking the grains. The sweet rice grains are cheaper than the flour and if I can still get a glycemic index around the same then it may be a better source.
MrApplewine - Compared to longer-grained rices, glutinous "sweet rice" requires the least amount of water to cook. Because it breaks down easily, it's often soaked and then steamed instead of boiled. Although it doesn't taste sweet, it's also called sweet rice because it's often used to make sweet dishes in Asia. It's flavor is mild and almost milky, not at all sugary sweet.
ThunderLaoKATng I think I want to cook the rice for longer and get it extra mushy. I'm trying to make the food as high glycemic as possible. Glutenous rice is already more glycemic because the start is all amylopectin and no amylose. This will break down faster. I want a quick insulin spike to get the effects of insulin without keeping it elevated for a long period of time. I'm thinking if I add water 3 to 1 rice and boil the rice for 30 minutes after soaking it for hours that should give me a softer mushier rice. I just need to add more water and boil longer.
Hello my new frend, nice video 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching my video! 💕
I think that is calrose rice isn't it?
PANLASANG MAMAMAYANG Thanks for watching! The brand I used in this video is by Apple. (sweet glutinous rice).
The rice cooker brand city star is it a good brand? Does it keep rice good for a long period of time? My tiger brand is dying on me
Hi Ceelee... I've only had this rice cooker for a month now and so far it's been cooking the rice perfectly every time... as for the keep warm feature, I hardly ever use it... I only cook enough rice per meal so I hardly ever have any left overs to keep warm... :-)
I'm a bit confused. You used 2 cups of water for 3 cups of rice?
rogueofthecraft hi, thanks for watching my video! Yes, I used 2 cups of water for 3 cups of rice. even with that ratio, the rice came out more on the stickier side. so less water would have been better. Every rice cooker cooks differently so you will have to give this method a few tries before you find the right ratio and consistency that you like.
I thought the ratio was strange as I'm used to cooking Basmati rice which tends to be 1 and a bit ratio of rice to water.
+ThunderLaoKATng btw soaking the rice makes it much healthier as it makes it more digestible meaning we gain more nutrients from the rice.
Total fail in my rice cooker
3 cups rice to 2 cups water ?
Did you persist the rice fir like 4 hrs first ?
My rice brand is Three Elephants Brand, Thai Sweet Rice. I have always used bamboo steamer in the past. The rice has directions for rice cooker but says to soak the rice, but not how much water to add to cooker. So I tried just cooking the rice without added more water, but the cooker won't stay on cook....so now I am trying your way with 2 cups of water....... may be too gooey since I already soaked rice! We'll see!
The result: the cooker would not stay on cook, so I left in on warm and the rice was cooked perfectly on WARM after 30 min! Wow! Easy peasy!
+MsSeaweed11 glad to hear it turned out! I'll have to try what you did..(letting it sit on warm til it's cooked) thanks for sharing!! :-)
+ThunderLaoKATng Yes, it was very good. I think I could even use less water, maybe 1 cup since rice was soaked!
So is it with any rice cooker? Or?
Many people have since tried this method so I would say, Yes! My rice cooker is cheap, if you have a more expensive or better model, it should cook it even better. You'll have to experiment with it a few times with water and rice ratio.
I wonder if i put 1 1/2 cups of water instead if it will make it less sticky ? Bc the steam will keep cooking it so i dont need alot of water right?
Some say the ratio 2 to 1 always works our for them but as you can see in my video the rice was cooked, but it was way too sticky. I think it depends on the brand of rice cooker you have. After I made this video, I haven't tried experimenting with the ratio so unfortunately I can't tell you if adding less water will work...
I mix with white rice so it won't be sto sticky
Thanks for watching! I'll have to try it with white rice next time!
What brand rice do you buy and also how long did you cook it for?
Thanks for watching! The rice was the Apple brand and cooking time will vary due to whay kind of rice cooker brand you have. Mine took about 20+ minutes.
Thanks for this video! I will do this as a back up in case I forget to soak my rice over night too. Good to know !
thanks for watching! :-)
you used a little too much water.. if you reduce the water a little more it be more like the traditional steam rice consistency..once it's cooked you just take out and cool it down like the traditional way and put it in a bamboo basket.
Thanks for watching! I've tried it with less water but it doesn't cook the rice thoroughly... maybe it my rice cooker.. it's a cheap brand! 🙂
I'm going to experiment and try chicken broth instead of water. Never tried making sticky rice before but I will try this and rince it and squeeze the water and everything I was told to do from the videos except add the chicken broth idea. Don't know how different it will be but I will try it tomorrow. =)
What I'm trying to do is make chicken and rice but I love sticky rice in it.
Chicken broth instead of plain water sounds like a very good idea! I imagine the rice will have a delicious flavor because of the savory chicken broth! Please let me know how it turns out! 💕
@@KrazyKATRecipes It did turn out delicious but it did not turn out to be sticky rice.🙁 But I think it may be because my measurements were off because I realized we didn't need that much rice. But there will always be a next time.

omg thank u so for this info..I hate soaking over night^_^
thanks for watching! Keep in mind that this cooking method, the rice is more softer and stickier. Everyone has different models of rice cooker so the results will vary. Since uploading this video, I have discovered that once it's done cooking, let the rice sit in Warm mode for about 15 to 20 minutes (this will cook up the uncooked rice).
How long have you soaked the rice?

Where do we buy sticky rice??
I buy them at my local Asian grocery stores... if your local Asian grocery store don't have it, check online... Amazon sells it. Just make sure it's sweet rice! 🙂
Find a Asian house.

Do you add oil or salt?

Does sticky rice get spoil fast..
Nina Richie ... thanks for watching! Sticky rice is only good for about 6 hours at most after it's cooked and best eaten while it's still warm! After 6 hours the rice is cold and hardens up... it can get spoiled if you leave it out on the counter after 2 days or so...
That doesn´t look like sticky rice. It looks like Japanese pearl rice which is more sticky than long grain but is not the same thing as ´´sticky rice´´ which is also called glutinious rice.
That was the first thing I thought, too.
+Alexandria Summers You can identify sticky/sweet/glutinous rice by its extreme opacity in raw form versus translucence for other rices. It appears that the young lady in this video might be Lao, and the Laotians probably use proportionally more glutinous rice than any other culture, so I would be that she knows glutinous rice. The Japanese do use some glutinous rice too but not as much as the Laotians.
+Randall Van Duyn Thanks for watching Randall! Yes, you are correct, I am Lao... the rice I used in the video was glutinous rice, (a.k.a sweet rice). This method of cooking it makes it look like it's Japanese pearl rice because it's more stickier then the traditional cooking method (bamboo basket steamer). :-)
I think this is glutinous rice but not the same as the traditional Thai sticky rice -

Thanks for watching! I'm not sure why your sticky rice changed colors... be careful though, there's been lots of fake food sold to unsuspecting customers.
The moment it’s cooked, off and pull the plug out, keeping it in keep warm mode turns the rice yellow

how do i make it more sticky
add more water.
how do I do the opposite?

how long do I let it cook in the steamer? it's 45 min for the other rice what's the time for sticky rice
hi, thanks for watching! are you asking about the traditional basket steamer or the electric cooker? The traditional way takes only 20 minutes, the electric rice cooker takes only 1 cooking cycle plus 15 to 20 minutes on sitting on Warmer mode...
I don't think it works! You need at least 3 and half cups of water please
thanks for watching! I'm not sure about adding 3 1/2 cups water because I used a 2 cups rice to 1 cup water ratio, and the rice was way too sticky! But then again everyone's rice cooker cooks differently... btw I still prefer the traditional way of cooking sticky rice verses this method! :-)
Mine turned out very mushy. Better to steam cook it.

Me an elderly man disabled and with my pets lived there for 1 yr. . I found myself with Asian people that didnt speak English but kindliness I found to be a Universal Langue. was there langue. So I started to learn Asian cooking just cant get a hand on Chop Sticks I tried lol.
I moved but he comes up and stays with me and my son at least a week as my son suffers with mental problems. This world has good people in it . Taken me shopping or he goes Knowing how painful it is to me. Thank You for letting me know.

I tried making the purple/black sticky rice in a rice cooker an it came out all mushy. I changed the the ratio to less water and it still came out like crap so I ended up throwing it away lol. Maybe it'll be different with white sticky rice
Honestly I tried several times to get the right consistency but it's still way too soft... so I've given up on it and went back to cooking sticky rice the traditional way! 😁 Thanks watching my video!
I used the 2 cups to 1 cup water ratio and it didn't come out right lol
Katie Bounkeovisane ... sorry Katie, that it didn't turn out for you. I personally think this method is a hit or miss because not everyone uses the same brand rice cooker... I still prefer the traditional way of cooking sticky rice! :-)
Katie Bounkeovisane that’s because the rice has to be soaked and making sticky with the rice cooker isn’t the proper way. The rice cooker is mainly for jasmine
lol of course it works.
Maybe don't put in so much water next time. :)
Michael flynn ... I've pretty much given up on cooking sticky with this method and gone back to cooking it the traditional way with a pot and bamboo basket! Lol... thanks for watching!
dont ve lazy now
Here in Philippines we used to cook it with your procedure,Anyway,im going to make Thai sticky rice with mango :)
lol, of course it works
lol... I was hesitant to try this method because for decades I was cooking it the traditional way! btw, I personally still prefer cooking the sticky traditional way! :-) Thanks for watching!
