    Ha! Us Saddleseat riders can't get off that easy. We are required to put out hair in a low bun with a bow or some sort of decoration like a pretty clip. If your bun falls out when riding, you get points taken off. Lots and lots of bobby pins, hairspray, at least two hair nets, a hair tie, and a banana clip are required to make sure it STAYS. LOL! :) Plus, you need a boar bristle brush to really slick your it down into the bun. Then you have to make sure your derby/top hat doesn't pop off, either...

    • @CurlyKatMarie
      @CurlyKatMarie  Před 9 lety

      Omg! Hahaha. Probably similar for Western riders? I know they do the low buns too. I'll have to remember this next time my hair doesn't want to stay together while I put my helmet on....

    • @ladyamaranth
      @ladyamaranth Před 9 lety

      xbeautyandthegeekx Yeah, the Western riders do it, too.
      Having curly hair actually helps! It makes your bun look bigger (Lol) and the curls kind of "hold" it better than straight hair. One girl who has thinner, pin-straight hair is always complaining because her bobby pins just slide right out.

      Luna Blue Hm, that sounds like another sport I know of: ballet. Oh, the joys of ballet. I think dance moms alone put a giant hole in the ozone layer. HA HA HA. There was no such thing as too much hair product in your kid's hair. I had mousse, gel and Aquanet in my hair on top of the three hair elastics, two nets, bobby pins, and clips.
      Which reminds me, I have to get a hair net for my horse show, plus I'm pretty sure Batman bows aren't acceptable for English Equitation. HA HA HA, (I should get a Scooby Doo one; my horse is named Scooby Doo.)

    Thank you so much:) I’ve been using those new hair nets because my hair is so so so thick, and since I’m only 13 the only time i used the old fashioned hair nets is when i was on smalls and my mom did my hair but I personally don’t like the new hair nets. So thank you i hope i can do this:) I got a new helmet that i can only wear with my hair up since it’s so thick🤷🏼‍♀️

      +Shae Godd Aw, that's so exciting! I know this is cliched, but first off, focus on having fun :) Also, I would try to focus on doing the basics well--things you know how to do, whether it's keeping your heels down and your eyes up, picking up the trot, etc. I think focusing on the things you know how to do helps confidence. It's completely normal to be nervous. A lot, if not most, other riders who show are or have been in the same position. It's just a horse show, not the end of the world :) I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck!

    Does the hairnet have to match your hair color? I don't really think they have ant vibrant red hair nets. i dont know if it really matters cause last time I showed it was so long ago I was still wearing braids and bows so i'm not that up to date on my age group dress code lol

    • @CurlyKatMarie
      @CurlyKatMarie  Před 8 lety

      +Hedgehog Hugger Wow, I don't know how I missed your comment until now! Sorry! In your case, I'd just try to find the closest match--like light brown, maybe. I've seen other girls with hair nets that didn't match their hair color, so you're definitely not alone :)

    • @berithall8590
      @berithall8590 Před 7 lety

      You could maybe try to dye the hair net with the color of your hair

    What if you have thicker hair than that??

    • @CurlyKatMarie
      @CurlyKatMarie  Před 10 lety +2

      Once you get your hair up over your head, you can add a second hair net on top of everything, like a cap. One of my teammates has incredibly thick hair, and that's a trick she uses to hold everything in place :) Again, make sure your helmet is a large enough size to accommodate all of your hair. Hope this helps!

    • @briannas5206
      @briannas5206 Před 10 lety

      Thanks for the tip!! When I try to use the second hairnet my hair just spills out from all around the edges of the helmet. :(. I tried it with one hairnet again this time with a LOWER ponytail, but I get a major headache. After like 5 minutes of keeping it up, when I took off my helmet I had a huge helmet line. My helmet is a size 7 which fits my head comfortably when my hair is in a ponytail.

    • @CurlyKatMarie
      @CurlyKatMarie  Před 10 lety

      Brianna S Hmmmm, if it's still spilling out with a second hair net, maybe you can braid your ponytail (loosely!) to help hold your hair together without taking up too much room?

    • @briannas5206
      @briannas5206 Před 10 lety

      That worked!! Thank u sooo much

    • @CurlyKatMarie
      @CurlyKatMarie  Před 10 lety

      Brianna S Yay! Glad to hear that :) As long as it's not uncomfortable and doesn't interfere with the fit of your helmet, then you should be fine.

    This was entirely too long. Good Lord... it's a freaking hair net and low pony. 15 minutes... it took me less time to shellac a top high bun and sew in a hair piece on a 7 year old.
